« Good value - Problem quickly solved »

Friendly welcome and a choice of rooms given by receptionist. Took their advice and had the quietest room with a bonus of double bed. Shortly after being in the room the main (including bathroom) lighting failed. Went to reception, explained problem and was quickly offered another room - with apologies that it would be a twin. I was promised that I would be contacted with an explanation - impressively I was! Rate included continental breakfast so I was surprised to see (very welcome) hot options of bacon, scrambled eggs and beans. All in all a great value for money stay.

The hotel was well situated for shopping,busses etc and easy to find I was not overly impressed at having to pay to park the car in the car park Room was clean and the beds were comfortable The only let down was the breakfast it was like the food had been there for days reheated as per demand and not much of a selection The staff were pleasant and helpful reception clean and well equipped with beverages Will consider using the hotel in the future

I enjoyed my stay as always. I knew that I could count on a comfortable bed and an immaculately clean room. There was plenty to eat for breakfast. The receptionists were attentive and hepful. A bargain price and good parking facilities. It certainly met all my expectations.

It's an affordable room at short notice when others are too expensive. Main drawback is breakfast finishes too early on Sunday morning. I have stayed there twice but never been up for breakfast. Also don't let them charge you extra for parking if you arrive on foot.

Our 2 night stay was our first to an Ibis hotel and we will definitely come back. We had a warm and friendly welcome. Our room was very clean and well appointed. But best of all was the self service breakfast which was plentiful and with good choices.

« Extremely Dissatisfied. Did not even stay at the hotel in the end »

The reservation was made by someone else on behalf of me. I drove 7 hours from Edinburgh, and when at the reception desk was told that my reservation was booked for 3 days later. I was not happy that the person who made the reservation got it wrong, but what was extremely dissatisfying was how Ibis handled my circumstance. I only needed a room for 1-night and the Ibis individual on hand was so unhelpful and unwilling to look into option of carrying over the reservation. I was simply told "there's no rooms left"....Considering I saw a couple checking out just prior. So after driving 7 hours, I had to drive around Reading and surrounding areas looking for another hotel. On top of it, I tried to cancel the booking as it was a few days out and I could not even get a refund! Very VERY unhappy at how Ibis has handled this. I will NOT be using ibis again, if this is the type of individuals you employ at the front desk.

« Much better than expected »

This hotel had some very poor reviews in the past but I must say that since Tomasz Michalak had taken over the management the reviews have improved greatly and I must say our room was spacious and very clean. The breakfast was very good and plenty of it available, but note as the hotel points out it is not a full English. The parking was fine and there were plenty of spaces. The area is a bit rough , reminds me of the east end of London but I would be wiling to walk along it after dark. All in all much better than expected and good value, well done Tomasz. Oh one comment ...the air conditioning in restauraunt kept belting out warm air at breakfast ...you may want to check this out.

« Avoid double rooms on 3rd floor, take your own food »

I've been here twice on business. The first time I had a lovely spacious twin room on the second floor. The second time I had a horrid, pokey, squished room on the third floor. Both times I was there for three days and would refuse a room on the top floor in future and deliberately book a twin room as you need space to relax after a day's work. The third floor is the ibis equivalent of a flop house floor. The "complimentary" breakfast - who do they think they're kidding, it' not complimentary, it's included in the price but ibis have taken the opportunity to insult their guests intelligence on arrival. The food is poor. If you like healthy eating, you have to take your own food. There isn't even a bowl of chopped fruit, maybe a couple of apples and a banana lying around with very poor quality Muselli. As for parking, that's not complimentary! I'd rather have the option of not paying for the appalling breakfast and go with complimentary parking. The hotel is south of the rail tracks where the traffic is horrendous. 30 mins for 2.5 miles. Better to stay north of the line if you can. I really cannot recommend eating in the hotel, the food is very poor. The couple of local pubs are no better, so you're in for a trip somewhere. I now stop on the way back from the client premises so I don't have to fight through the worst in-town traffic I've come across. I certainly wouldn't want to live here. One of the client's attendees had been booked into a hotel 11 miles away and took 90 mins getting in! Like many hotels the cleaners tuck the duvet in under the mattress. Who sleeps like that? Nobody does! So you, the guest, have to pull everything out and remake the bed. What is the point in that? Why do I need to do their job? Do it right the first time and not only is it less work making the room up, it's less work for the guest too. Win, win. Why make life more difficult for everyone? Overall, I'd happily stay in one of the second floor twin rooms again but not in one of the horrid little doubles in the roof, that was simply unpleasant. It's acceptable for a business trip if you're in one of the much more spacious twin rooms. If you think healthy eating means skipping butter on your toast, you'll be fine with the food. There are good places to eat but not within a mile of the hotel, so you'll need to drive or cab it to a restaurant.

It’s such a pity you did not mention it during your stay, had you done so we would have happily allocated you to a different room. I must respectfully disagree with your comments about our complimentary breakfast. I can reassure you that we only work with suppliers who are renown across UK for their food and beverage offerings. Our menus are carefully selected to provide the right range of items to suite every taste. In fact, we believe that we are here to listen and just like guest inspire our menus, what our guest tell us drive our ranges and concepts behind the food offerings and not only. I am very sorry to hear that there duvet and bedding was not to your liking. Your comments will go straight to the head housekeeper to investigate and rectify. I can also only apologies for our neighborhood, but I’m sure you can appreciate that it is completely out of our control. We do everything we reasonably can to work with the local authorities to improve the profile of Reading but the problems are common to all businesses and residents within the Oxford Road area, including the other hotels. We hope that the recent redevelopments, will help to raise the profile of the town and its neighborhood. « Lovely Transit »

A business as well as family hotel. Plenty space car park for £5 per night. A kids corner and modern looks lobby lounge. Sufficient breakfast menu for family. Not too big family room. The room temperature is well controlled even without in-room temp control. Too high bath tube for kids. Many restaurants nearby, easy to find halal food as well.

A pleasant enough stay but I don't understand why you can't provide free parking for your guests? I understand the need to charge someone who isn't staying at the hotel, but for paying guests. Didn't quite sit well.

« my non stay at the IBIS »

I was unable to stay in the booked room as there was an unbearable smell in the room. I arrived late at night and there was no alternative. the staff team called around and found another hotel with a room 15 minutes away. the parking I was promised wasn't there, but as I left anyway this wasn't a a major issue. but I was parked in the drop off area. I finally got to bed in my alternative hotel at 1.45 in the morning, and this totally disrupted my plans for work for the next few days.

Stay in Ibis around the country regularly, never had this sort of experience before. Team clearly demotivated and unhappy, and although they were managing to give reasonable guest service, they could be heard (and to be fair, were very happy sharing with the guests) what a dreadful place this one is to work! Had to ask for my Accor complimentary drinks voucher. Parking was a real headache, which seemed to be a gripe for most guests. Veg chilli was fine but soggy nan bread (microwaved, I did question why and was told they are not allowed to use the MerryChef!); breakfast was poor with over diluted juice, one coffee machine not working (tray needed emptying) and a choice of CocoPops, Rice Crispies or Cornflakes (not much for adults in my opinion). On checkout was asked if everything was ok, when I said no, I got a shrugged 'sorry'. Room was clean, had what I needed, shower was hot and plentiful.

Improve evening meal. Breakfast is limited for early morning starters. Due to nature of guests which tend to building workmen by 7.00 variety of food is at a shortage. On the last two visits there was no bread, crossaints, bacon available.

The hotel is perfectly adequate. £5 additional fee to park but the cost was very good compared to other hotels in the area in the Ibis group. The property is on Oxford Road which is slightly intimidating and unwelcoming. Many take-aways but only 1 sit down restaurant which is an Indian some 1200 m distant along Oxford Road. The food on offer in the hotel is very basic and seemingly microwave productions which is not to all tastes unless you want processed fast food. Breakfast is included in the room rate and was good in terms of quality and variety. The internet is the fastest I have ever come across.

Unfortunately we do not operate a full service kitchen on site, which is the reason behind the limited menu on offer.
