Enjoyed the stay - good overall but I am very annoyed that after 2 telephone calls and 3 emails no-one has bothered to contact me about the item of clothing I left in the room I called the Hotel on the evening of Thurs 07 Sept after we checked out on the same morning - Comment please!

« Very disappointed about the room »

The first room we had was very noisy because of the music in the corridor. It ended at midnight and started again at 7am! Why?? The other room we had we more quiet on that aspect but next to the elevator so patato potato... The breakfast was very chaotic didn't managed the get a coffee... Ok it was offered by Giuseppe (who did his best to help with the noise, unlike the other staff members), but still for a 5* hotel I can't believe it. On the top it was impossible to turn off the AC in our second room which gave me a cold and ruined the rest of my holidays in Italy. I really regret the fact that we went to this hotel. It was a rough start for our holidays. The restaurant was fine, a bit pricy for the food served to be honest but ok. The SPA area was nice.

« Not satisfied with experience here »

Was extremely unimpressed during my stay at the hotel. Expected much more from a 5 star hotel but was disappointed in many areas. The service for check in and out was very slow and unfriendly. The room had a broken drawer and the wifi did not work. When the air conditioning in our room did not work, we tried to call the front desk from our room phone repeatedly but no one picked up. The bathroom shower had mold and the bathroom floor was dirty (we took pictures of this).

« A wonderful hotel - but not for web-surfing »

The hotel was marvellous in every regard except one - the internet service. Our room was spacious, clean, quiet and intelligently designed. The restaurant was highly professional, and the food excellent. Car parking spaces were in limited supply but during our stay we had no problem securing a place. The location is superb, looking out over the sea, and we found the beachfront promenade delightful in the evenings.

The hotel is not as described on the web site. Yes the actual hotel is grand but that is all. The reception is stark, the staff need to offer a more friendly and welcoming customer service, and the pool is nothing like the images on the web site, we thought it must be the spa! You would expect to be able to relax in a nice bar area perhaps in the grand hotel but the only bar is on the top floor, and if you sit outside you are likely to be swooped upon by pigeons or seagulls or a waiter rushing to clear the tables to avoid any unwelcome table guests! There was no visitor information readily available and when we did ask it was like pulling teeth!! We were not told about the spa and how to get there etc, and even asking for a lunch menu was a struggle. We were not given a menu, just told that we had a choice of panini fillings, we decided on the prawn option and it turned up as a chopped shrimp? mixture in white sliced bread!! There is really very little to do in Livorno, we would definitely not return! The best bit was the wonderful family run restaurant down the road, fabulous food and fabulous customer service and always a warm welcome. Accor hotels need to do a mystery shop on this hotel to appreciate how the guests feel.

After 10 years in luxury hospitality (5 years Sofitel) myself and running an international events company, where we evaluate hotels on a daily baseis, I think I am rather well placed to evaluate properties. This is clearly a very badly managed MGallery, most likely a franchise property. The building is really amazing, but it needs a serious renovation. Sofitel/MGallery standards are unknown in this hotel, staff is poorly trained, management clearly not skilled to run this hotel.

« Great staff, nice rooms beautiful hotel »

Went here on holiday for first time with our newborn. Staff was great, provided a babybed and were very lovely to her. Rooms are pretty and beds are comfortable. Nice bathrooms, but no hairconditioner or cottontips (tip to bring your own). Breakfast is nice - nothing special, but well provided. The coffee is great - as I do expect in Italy. Unfortunately we were not welcome with the baby in the heated swimmingpool. But luckily the little one was okay with the cold water of the swimming pool on the roof. The reataurant on the rooftop is great! Very nice meals and very affordable with a great view. It's about 1500 m to the center, which is walkable but in mid summer very hot to do during the day. Parking at the hotel was sufficient!

« It seems that most of the staff really try, but the overall level does not match a 5-star hotel »

By check-in I was told that the junior suite that I had booked (and confirmed) was not available the first night. The same evening I visited the restaurant at the 5th floor, but ending up with leaving after being left to sit and wait to be served for an extremely long time. I tried to find something outside the hotel, but being my first night in Livorno, I ended up with room service. I asked the front desk manager about room service menu, and was given a limited 24/7 menu. He could in general really try harder! Fortunately when I called the room service I was met by a very serviceminded lady that told me I could choose from the complete reataurant menu. The wine recommendation also turned out to be excellent. I think her name was Maria. So the first evening ended successfully. Next morning I went to the breakfast room, and when presenting my room number, I was told that I already had had my breakfast! Day two I finally got the type of room that was the reason for the booking. But this is definitely not a 5-star hotel level.

« not very good »

the check in desk spoke bad english did not recognize me as a platinum member at all. had to wait for 20 minutes for they bell boy. Asked to order the cab taxi arrived after 20 min told me its my taxi when i got in told me its a mistake and its not mine, had to wait another 20 min. no apology no nothing!!

« impressive old stylish building, perfect location in a great city. Rooms need reviewing though »

see title. Surprised to not be offered a welcome drink (which I thought was customary, especially for a platinum le club member), at both visits. Rooms are OK but desperately need work. On the first visit the airco would turn itself back on after 10 minutes after having switched it off. The second visit the bathroom bath/shower water spilled on the floor without being able to prevent - almost a swimming pool. The roof top is great

The upgraded room was lovely and the hotel has many beautiful aspects however the level of service was consistently below what is expected at an M Gallery Hotel. Most staff were friendly but there did nit appear to be systems in place to manage some of the basic elements of a hotel stay.

We were very disssappointed. Room poor, food at dinner poor quality and unprofessional service, breakfast really bad, small offer and bad quality of products. The worst ; you have to pay 5 euros per towel for the swimming pool ( to pay, not a guarantee!) never seen!

« Not so MGallery!!! »

WiFi not working. Paint peeling off walls and cupboards. No robes. No slippers. No tissues. Certainly not up to the usual MGallery standard as experienced in other parts of the world. We reduced our stay from three to one night, and went elsewhere. However, the bedding, bed and towels were to the usual Accor standard.

I have previously stayed at a 4 star Novotel room, which was in better condition than this room at a 5 star Sofitel. The door to the bathroom could not close properly and the shower door frame was not properly sealed as there was a poodle of water in the opposite side of the door opening (it was quite evident that the hotel managers already knew about it since it had visible stains of white silicone sealant) Had them switch the kettle as it was very rusty on the bottom and the wall socket wasn't working. Bed was good. I did the finger in dust test and it is quite evident that the room is not perfectly cleaned for each new visitor as I swept my fingers around the door and window frame and my fingers were coated in dust. The breakfast was fine. The outside of the building is very nice.

It was a nice hotel in a location that was met my needs. The only issue that I was facing, is that the restaurant is not open till late night and also they have limited choices for room service menu for late hours.
