hotel with the best service, book 2 hours before checkin via online application booking, just wait 15 minutes to get a room. the place is comfortable, clean and strategic. the hotel staff were friendly and smiling. the food is good and there are very sought-after facilities for parents, namely children-only swimming pools and children's playgrounds. there is also a gym for exercise. definitely staying at Mercure Jakarta Cikini hotel is very pleasant and will be back later.

I reserved the rooms, for business, the location near to a client's office was the deciding factor with the security of a known brand sealing the decision. I have stayed in several Mercure hotels around the World and never been disappointed. I used your online check-in service, got feedback from your system, but all it did was waste time before arriving because I had to check in normally. The staff were very friendly and respectul. I stayed in a Suite (805) on the 8th floor; the proximity of the pool and the rooftop bar was good, but, the room was a suite by name, but not by nature, it was simply two rooms put together to make a 'suite' with no thought for the needs of the business traveller; I had to work, and was forced to spend almost all my time in the bedroom, because that was where the very limited, inadequate space for working on a laptop was based. The other part of the room, loosely earning the title of lounge, was merely an access route to my bedroom and working area. It was a VERY POORLY PLANNED room, with no understanding for the needs of a business guest, someone that would often choose this room. The 'lounge' area had lots of wasted area and clearly had an area suited for a desk, chair, lamp and telephone, next to a power outlet, but whoever 'designed' these suites had no idea about guest requirements; especially for business. In the bathroom of a ‘suite’, there should be a bathtub, a suite is meant to offer luxury; this room is no better than a Superior Room, apart from the toiletries provided. The furniture was looking tired and stained, there needs to be a proactive furniture cleaning programme. On a positive note, the sound insulation of the room was good, far superior to the Novotel in Surabaya, another Accor hotel plagued by train noise, as well as local mosques. Another positive note are the housekeeping staff, they are efficient and friendly, you can be proud of them. The rooftop pool is a good size and made for swimming, well done, however, the chemicals you use leave a very strange acidic taste in the mouth, almost like tasting mild battery acid; not the normal taste you get from chlorine treated swimming pools. The service of the rooftop bar is good, the barman is very responsive, friendly and helpful, at times, his service is slow, not through his fault, but one man cannot serve several customers at the same time, meeting an efficient service standard. The inclusive ‘privilege’ items are quite good; the afternoon tea is nice, with a good variety of food items, the coffee machine was good, with environmentally friendly coffee, the tea offered was a good quality, but your information for privilege guests (on the voucher) is that there is a ‘special breakfast’, this is not so, when you get to the restaurant, you have the same breakfast as all other guests. The breakfast was a disappointment, it could be used as a case study in how not to serve guests breakfast. Both Friday and Saturday, I had to ask for staff to clean tables and set them, the restaurant was not ready for guests throughout the service, it was clearly poorly managed, with a clear lack of service staff, resulting in the team never being ahead of the problems and customers, only reacting to complaints , rather than stopping them before they happen. From a professional point of view, the biggest problem was food safety and temperature control, which was disastrous; I told your restaurant manager on Saturday morning and he did not understand the problems I was showing him, he apparently had no understanding of the essentials of food safety, temperature, time and bacterial growth. This apparent lack of understanding was shocking for Jakarta and the Accor Group; if I was in the jungles of Kalimantan, or Iryan Jaya, I would understand, but you have no excuse. Your setup for cold food items was at best amateur, the cold meat and cheese selection was stale, dry and sweating, indicating a high concentration of food poisoning bacteria was on this meat and it was unsafe; your cooks walked past it several times (sometimes looking at it) and did nothing, clearly not understanding the obvious problems that were all around the buffet. The hot food WAS NOT HOT. The food was cooked and brought out warm, but the service equipment was not hot, the covers were open, the food was cold, especially the sausages, making the whole plate of food a sad mess of disappointment. The selection would have been good, had it not been for a total lack of temperature and quality control. The tea and coffee was not well maintained and even though I wanted tea, I had to have coffee; two coffee machines and a water boiler with a selection of tea bags would be much better. The croissants were good when available, Friday breakfast, they were not managed well and for a long time not available; fortunately I had a chance to try one on Saturday. This leads me to another major safety issue; whoever decided to put a very hot oven in a restaurant, where there are children running around, needs to either see a psychiatrist or go back to school, it is a stupid idea, an oven belongs in a kitchen, NOWHERE ELSE. As I said about upstairs, the staff were all very pleasant and friendly, but, this is not good enough when there is a clear lack of training in the basics of safety, and service. How can I say all this? I am a Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality, an International hospitality management organisation, I am a qualified hotel manager and specialise in the most difficult areas of hospitality, remote sites, bringing a good hotel service to the jungles, desserts and seas.
