We chose Walton Hall as a base for Stratford and Cotswolds. Very pleased with hotel accommodation and the service from staff. A couple of items to improve things: need a shelf in the bathroom, garden needs a good de-weed, bottle of water in room would be appreciated. Otherwise - excellent.

Not enough staff at check in, room key didn't work, second attempt did. Small room without a window that opened. Approx 28c over this weekend I stayed. Hotel not fully booked asked to be moved and give a good room with patio doors on the 1st close. The balcony area was horrendous (photos to prove) not only was there over grown weeds but also rubbish that had obviously been there a long time. Not acceptable and shocking that cleaners do not clear the balcony area.

Average

Entirely average. Poor welcome at the desk- the man looked confused. The spa was entirely average and looked better on the photos. Not enough seating and pool was cold. Wrong meals came out for both starter and mains. The waitress didn’t know what a wine list was (I do not blame her but your poor training). I have ate in many restaurants and have never seen an £8 additional cost for an 8oz steak- appalling. Drinks were also over priced for what was offered. The bedroom had a number of faults (which I can provide photos to support) such as, the shower dial came off in our hands, the shower door was at risk of shattering on the sink, the net curtain hanging off, lipstick on the mugs, and limescale over the shower head. However your mattress was comfortable. It then took a week for the money held on the credit card to be cleared off which I had to call and request- your staff informed me that would be done on the day of departure. Gentleman who booked us in was very polite. Overall, there could be many small changes made to improve.

Accommodation ok, bathroom mat not replaced on second night and so had a very slippery floor second morning. Also no room service menu in room, which didn’t feel had been checked properly before completion from last guests.

Sufficient but in no way exceptional

Andy Solo - 14/09/2019 AccorHotels review

The room was clean and well appointed, but the buildings and decor in general look tired and a bit sad. Time for a refurbishment. Same goes for the leisure facilities. Restaurant menu was pretty underwhelming so I ate in the bar. Service throughout was ok but on the slow side and never gave the impression that my business was important - so I felt like I should have just gone out to a nearby pub. All in all nothing was terrible but nothing would make me want to come back. It just seems like the quality of the hotel doesn’t really do justice to its incredible setting.

A lovely hotel set in beautiful grounds. Unfortunately we had to wait a long time to get our room, until a quarter to 5.

Issues with cleanliness of the hotel

Customer review rating 3.9/5

Philip T. Business - 13/09/2019 AccorHotels review

I arrived late on the Monday evening and it was dark outside. I checked into my room and all was fine. The following morning I opened the curtains and there was 2 dirty dishes complete with cutlery and rotting food on them on the balcony outside my window. I complained to reception and their response was "i'll inform housekeeping", no apology given. The following day when checking out the items were still on the balcony rotting with flies. When mentioning again at reception, the response was "Well i did tell housekeeping" which i dont think is a satisfactory response to a hygiene issue with the room. I was then offered a complimentary drink which i felt was inappropriate! The standard of cleanliness were not as I expected from your hotel, nor the service with reception.

not up to expectations

Terry C. Friends - 13/09/2019 AccorHotels review

reception and other staff very good. room 409 had no courtesy net curtain only 2 hangers shower leaked on floor by corner of taps, modest tea/coffee/biscuits (cut backs?). however reception first class and moved us to room 101. (recommendation to the girl on duty, most helpful). observations re.this room. it certainly was a 'wet-room'! water splashes all over the floor making it quite slippery and dangerous. good job you had robes as towels needed to dry floor. non-existant shelf space for such a nice size. you have to walk out of the shower or throw the empty shampoo across the room. how a disabled or wheelchair person gets on I dread to think. only 1 cup issued at the coffee machine and again spartan issue of tea/coffee. the fridge plug lead only just reaches, tea/coffee tray has to be moved. the standard lamp is potentially dangerous, comes on and off when it wants. there is an unpleasant aroma around the stairs from reception to the bar area which of course leads to the restaraunt. hope this is helpful

Although the staff were amazing the organisation of rooms was disappointing. We had to wait until after 4 for it to be ready and then it was set up as a double rather than a twin. It was dealt with very efficiently by reception

Happy occasion but disappointing meal

Sally F. Families - 11/09/2019 AccorHotels review

We were part of a group of 11 ( a family group). The setting is lovely and we liked the outdoor spaces. Our rooms were ok although some external refurbishment is required and a few minor repairs inside. The staff were helpful and friendly. However the quality of the food was poor considering it wasn’t cheap. This celebratory meal was the centrepiece of our stay and for £28pp we would have hoped for more: no bread on table, no jug of water, bland risotto, with few ingredients, fish cakes straight out of a packet and not fully heated through, mean portion of dessert without the ice cream ( as advertised), Eton Mess with only fruit sauce ( no fruit). Too many corners cut!

A lovely Victorian pile set in well tended countryside

Hb Couples - 11/09/2019 AccorHotels review

The superior room within the old buildings was very spacious, the 6 foot the was very comfortable, and the air conditioning was most welcome on the hotter days. The bathroom and shower is also luxurious (however the stone floor levels encouraged run-off water to exit through the door into the room's carpet). The daytime staff were very helpful. Evening food poor, breakfast good. Gardens and landscape excellent and very well tended. Dogs seemed welcome but were not noticeable or problematic for non-dog guests. However, night staff did not give much of a stuff. Phones rang for long time unanswered, the person adjacent's shower was continually cold and the night staff did not want to know. The Hotel's recommended taxi firm, "we have negotiated a special Hotel rate and have excellent connections", was very expensive ie £20 for 3 miles. On return from the event the taxi would not allow a taxi share with another couple, and still charged £20, the driver wanted to charge more but our annoyance was evident.

Lovely experience

Ground floor room requested, elderly relatives put upstairs.

Everything fine, early Sunday cooked breakfast, all good. I had requested a ground floor room for elderly friends to stay in. They are in their 80's. The lady has dementia and needs support to get about. That request was ignored and they were placed upstairs and had to use a lift. A frightening experience for her that could have been avoided.

We stayed in the 'Old House' and the staff kindly moved our room because of a wedding taking place, the room was amazing but the TV in the bedroom was broken and despite numerous requests was never fixed in the three days we were there. The room also needed a bit of TLC and had dead flies all over the windows that were never cleaned.

Dr B. C. Families - 10/09/2019 AccorHotels review

Only aspect which was not so good was that breakfast finished abruptly at 10.00am in the house where we were staying ( was it the Hall?) for the wedding and food was taken away and doors closed with no warning at all. Many of us thought breakfast on Sunday was up until 10.30 or 11am as stated in the guest information. I asked and was provided with cold bacon and congealed egg. Horrible. This spoilt an otherwise excellent stay.
