I e mailed that we wanted single beds for no response so phoned hotel spoke to reservations who assured me that we would have single beds. On arriving shown to double room then moved to another room double bed again. Finally at third attempt for single bed room. Not the best start all the personnel on reception very young and inexperienced. On leaving not asked whether I had enjoyed the stAy or any customer interaction at all completely disinterested .

Room for improvement

First impressions were not great. We travelled 2.5 hours to the hotel using google maps only to get to the gate to find it locked. After much faffing and trying to find another road, we went back to the gate and saw the notice with the correct postcode which was a further 10 minute journey. By the time we arrived at the hotel we were completely frustrated and in my opinion this was frustration that could quite easily be avoided. I understand the reason for the gate closure was the weak bridge which is fine, but this was obviously not something new and by the looks of it the bridge has been closed for some time. So I am baffled as to why you wouldn’t inform your guests before arrival that they should make their way to the other entrance either on the welcome/reservation email or a quick update to the directions on the website. This really isn’t that difficult and would give you customers an altogether better arrival experience. Check in was very busy and whilst the staff were helpful, they gave us a room on the top floor of the orchard building when we had a young baby and a pram. Without knowing the layout of the hotel it was only when we got to the room that there was no lift and it was completely impractical. So we had to change one of the rooms which was dealt with quickly but exacerbated by the arrival experience and making us run late for our spa treatments! We booked a spa experience and whilst there were no problems with this I felt that the fitness centre wasn’t really capable of accommodating all of the people booked in. With me having to perch on a sofa arm to wait for my treatment. Didn’t start of that relaxing. The changing rooms were small, particularly when there were children in there and very few lockers to use. Aside from that the rooms were comfortable and the food and the restaurant were fantastic. The manager of the restaurant was very accommodating and the food excellent. It would have been good if there was another place to eat/drink and some way to make more of the beautiful surroundings in the estate. Overall we enjoyed our stay but not sure we’d rush back.

Hotel staff friendly and overall an ok stay

We stayed in a two bedroom apartment which at first looked fine but as our stay went on came apparent they were some issues with the standard of the room. The toilet in the en-suite just kept filling after you had flushed it. So just sounded like a tap was trickling all night! Not very relaxing! The lights over the sinks didn’t work and the shower cubicle in the bathroom very marked and old ! Breakfast good.

This was one room of a large number booked under a preferential rate for our daughter's wedding (Jess C./James Starr on Sat 5th October). The chair in the best man's room (Matthew Starr) was ripped and it is unbelievable that the chair was still in the room. The chaise longue in Room 16 was badly stained. There were no directions to the rooms in the old building from reception. And there were no umbrellas or anything to protect from the pouring rain on the long walk to the room that night. Our wedding guests have probably been too polite to let us know if any other rooms had problems but we are very disappointed with our experience of Walton Hall.

James Couples - 08/10/2019 AccorHotels review

Morning, I stayed at the Walton Hall Hotel this past weekend (Reservation: HNTLDJQZ) , after a previous lovely visit, however we were very disappointed this time, and other guests seemed to have similar complaints from conversations with them. The below were mentioned to different staff throughout the stay, but with little/no action to remedy them. As much as anything, there seems to have a been a significant slip in standards which I am sure you wish to address. Aside from the below points, I will however say that the reception and leisure (pool) staff were very attentive and helpful, all were a credit to the hotel. However: - We were told we could not use the restaurant on the Friday evening due to bookings, however we observed multiple empty tables throughout the evening, this was understandable but a shame, as we then had to use the limited bar menu. The restaurant never appeared to be more than 2/3rds full, and looked far less a lot of the evening. In the bar, the bar staff were really poor. They did not know the range of drinks when we asked, then stopped taking our order part way through as they got distracted by other guests. They were also clearly untrained and did not recognise that a gas changer was required when the taps get spitting out the drinks causing it to spray across the bar. Throughout, the bar staff kept handling drinks by the top / rim of the glasses which is poor from a health view and etiquette. Further, despite a very quick meal being brought out, we then waited over 35 minutes for the table to be cleared and the cheese course we had ordered to be brought to the table. When it did arrive, it had to be sent back as it didn't contain what was on the menu. This was rectified, but the general experience was very poor and a bad first impression on the first evening. - Breakfast - generally the breakfast selection and choice is very good, however I had to complain on both mornings that there were elements of the hot buffet that were cold despite being on the hot plates (scrambled egg, bacon and mushrooms) and there were also issues with uncovered meats, pastries, fruit etc, while fellow guests were coughing and sneezing. I appreciate that this is easy to complain about and less straightforward to fix, but perhaps is something that needs to be addressed as it really was off putting and as a result, we didn't feel like we had anything like a value-for-money breakfast - Room - As on our previous stay, we thought the rooms were generous and well fitted out, however we noted a rather off-putting yellow stain in our bath (likely caused by a long-standing dripping tap issue) and both chairs in the room were extremely warn with the faux-leather covering being highly worn off which looked very cheap and tatty. We were advised that someone would come to look at cleaning the stain, however we do not think this took place, or if it did, it was certainly not effective. The worn seating particularly looked really shabby and was not reflective of the price you charge I don't take pleasure from complaining, but my partner and I both felt that these issues needed reporting above hotel staff as they did not seem to be addressed or even concerns noted, during our stay. As we loaded the car to leave and checked-out, we spoke to / overheard upwards of 6 or 7 other guests who all had similar concerns or said they felt the hotel was not as good as expected given the price point of the stay. We certainly felt disappointed and noted a distinct down-turn from our previous stay. I have tried reporting this via your support pages, but they would not work, which was also reported via the feedback section. Many thanks and Kind Regards James

Lizzie Couples - 08/10/2019 AccorHotels review

The hotel is situated in a lovely location and some of the old buildings give it real character. We had a room that was quietly tucked away in part of the old buildings and it was quite quirky with the bathroom up a small staircase, the room was spacious and the bed comfortable. It was all clean. The lighting throughout the room was quite poor which made it difficult to sit and read and there was only one portable lamp, all others were part of the fixtures. We used the pool and sauna facilities which are clearly tired and in need of an update, It was towards the end of the day and everything just seemed messy and dirty. As part of the room upgrade (which we had paid for) there was an espresso machine but no pods to use with it and as helpful as reception tried to be they were unable to locate any. The safe failed to work in the room which we highlighted to reception and they said unfortunately it was broken and gave us a drinks voucher to compensate for the inconvenience. The hotel was clearly busy and staff were working very hard to keep customers happy. Unfortunately, this meant that the dining room was busy and loud, we had to make second choices with the menu as some items were no longer available.when the food arrived portion sizes were good but we wouldn’t rush back to eat there. Breakfast the following morning was a similar experience, dining room extremely busy and loud, food ok, coffee dreadful.

The main hall is amazing but our room was not clean, cobwebs on the walls, dirty uneven carpets and grubby bathroom. The sofa and chairs in the room were stained. The bar was busy with only one staff member working. The hall should be utilised as it’s so beautiful and would make a great place to enjoy food and drink.

It was ok - the lunch was enjoyable but the pool was overcrowded, smaller than pictured and there were too many people. No water downstairs in the pool area. The facilities are tired but were generally clean. The staff were helpful. However the bedroom furniture was tired and had tears in the leather chairs. There was no plug in the bath which was annoying as we wanted to have a bath. The area stunning.

Good food and nice room but the whole place feels a little ‘tired’ and could benefit from upgrading. The pool and facilities are basic and public and would benefit from some upgrading. However all was clean and adequate and the supply of gowns, slippers and towels appreciated. Hot tub, whirlpool etc would add to the experience and somewhere to relax in comfort? Maybe a small cafe with soft chairs? A shop would help as well with swimming gear in plenty of sizes and styles, beauty products, crafts etc to browse and things you may have forgotten like toiletries. Overall a nice weekend but lacking any glamour for a special event. The food was lovely but would prefer plates to slates

Apon entering my room there was an adjoining door with a key lock. A couple was the other side. All night I could hear word for word what they were saying along with their TV and washing of cups etc. I had a stressful day ahead of me the next morning and this wasn't helpful atall. The grout in the shower was grotty looking and a big iron burn on the carpet wasn't a nice sight to see.

The room was adequate however there was a wet patch across the floor near the kettle the curtain didn't fit the window so let early light into the room. The food was very average for the type of Hotel, the starter was patently from Break brothers or similar, the main course Lamb was tough and unappealing. In my experience it is as easy to cook something well as it is to cook food badly.

Lovely area.

All the staff were very nice and helpful. Unfortunately, our room became very hot. The thermostat did not work and there was no one around to fix this. The window did not open so unable to get any fresh air, which seemed a bit ironic as the hotel is situation in the middle of a lovely park. We decided not to move rooms until the morning but, I did not get a very good sleep as kept waking up because of the heat. We were moved to an annex, which was a bit of a task as we had several bags and there was not lift. The room was fine but the balcony had not been cleaned this year, lots of moss etc. growing. The reason we picked your hotel was because dogs are welcome. This was very much appreciated.

Disappointing Anniversary

Tamara Couples - 06/10/2019 AccorHotels review

Disappointing weekend. Food was average, drinks overpriced, spa run down and desperate need of refurb. There was only a small steam room and sauna with no jacuzzi. The swimming pool was also very cold and not enough beds for all guests. The spa messed up my treatment booking from 12.45 to 5pm without letting me know and let me sit waiting to be seen until I went downstairs half an hour after my appointment was booked for. We had planned to go out the rest of the afternoon so was just left with no treatment but the offer of a refund for the treatment only. This was upsetting as I specifically booked a spa hotel for our anniversary weekend. Our room was ok, lovely view as we were in the original building. The drain in the shower needed unblocking as the bathroom almost flooded. My partner also badly hurt his foot due to the marble step between the bedroom and bathroom with no warning. The first night, the restaurant was fully booked so had to eat our food in the bar which was not ideal - we were not advised to book a table when we checked in. Will not be recommending this hotel and will not be returning.

There were lots of rats running around the bins.when reported I was told they could not do anything bout it. Kept us waiting over an hour in spa for a booked treatment. Food on 2nd night was dry. There was a bottle of bubbly paid for to be in our room in an ice bucket and a card as a surprise for us as we were celebrating just got married . It was put in mini bar with no card so not used by us as we thought if we used it we would be charged from.mini bar. It has still not been refunded to my mum.

Getting there late 20-30, only bar food , two slices of bread , for a sandwich, going to my allocated room to discover it was occupied! Then in the morning having a cold buffet breakfast, not the best experience!
