Booked a room with the intention of having a spa break and paid £130 for the night. I was disappointed with the spa facilities. There was not a hot tub, which I was surprised about as the hotel is a spa! I then discovered that the steam room was not working. Further to this the pool was not clean, nor was it the temperature I would expect of a spa pool. In the changing rooms were also dirty and untidy with rubbish and cutlery laying around, the floors were also dirty. My boyfriend and I spent about fifteen minutes in the spa facilities. We left due to the above-mentioned issues. As well as the disappointing facilities, when in the swimming pool, a couple were clearly playing with one another under the water, something I do not wish to witness in a any public pool, let alone a spa. As there was no lifeguard on duty I would expect that you would have CCTV to enable staff members to keep an eye on activities in the pool to prevent this sort of behaviour. When I returned to my room there was no TV remote, which meant we were then unable to easily watch TV. When I spoke to staff about this they wrote a small note but did nothing about getting a replacement remote. Overall, I am very disappointed. I have never felt the need to contact a hotel after my stay, but I felt very disappointed after checking out at 11am, a waist of what should have been a special occasion for my boyfriend and me.

Attended my granddaughters wedding. The attention to detail for the whole day was excellent. The customer service was good in the Hall. However except for the reception staff and bar staff the dining experience on the night before the wedding in the hotel was poor. The food was OK but table service was not good. We also had an issue with the bill where extra meals were charged for. This was put right by us all going individually to the bar and paying separately

started badly as upgraded to old hall and was told we couldn't eat or drink in those bars when last time we came we could. we asked to move and then upgraded to the newer building and had a lovely room. Staff were excellent The upgrade included drinks in the fridge but we had to ask for these twice.

Great room for a family, just a few areas that need some TLC, for example the pool lighting was not working correctly on the first night, the sauna was not working and the changing rooms were really cold. There was a large damp patch in the living room area. The food in the restaurant was nice but quite expensive for a family evening meal.

I did not feel that the hotel provided more than a satisfactory service. The water did not drain from either the sink or the bath. The water control in the bath/shower was broken. The floor was uneven. There was nowhere to hang coats and bags when guests for the wedding arrived in the main building. There were only two people at the drinks counter and one young man seemed inexperienced. There was a red carpet loosely draped over the main steps to the hall but it was a trip hazard. Guests wee obliged to find the waiting staff to ask them to refill the milk jugs and maintain the coffee/tea machine both at the wedding reception and at breakfast. Finding the hall was very difficult. The postcode was incorrect. I did not choose this venue. I was a guest at a wedding.

« Ive stayed at most Mercure Hotels/properties in the UK and some overseas, I'm afraid this ones not great. »

Hotel is really a wedding venue. As a business traveler the hotel is over sold by the website as none of the unique older features are evident in the non 'venue' part of the hotel, therefore not worth the charged rate for B&B. The leisure facilities are very tired, mostly broken or worn and dirty. The rooms I stayed in was cold and a hike from the reception area but functional. The restaurant was closed off and the bar area was full of fumes, construction tool noise and freezing! The Chicken dinner was tiny and a real disappointment. The only way I can see that this hotel is a 4 star is that all the staff I engaged with were very helpful and courteous. Won't be back.

« Relaxing in beautiful peaceful surroundings »

After being show to our first room in the stables which smelt of damp and had a big stain in the carpet we were quickly given another room. Any problems like replacement light bulbs were quickly sorted out within an hour. We did note that with the stables the outside woodwork was badly in need of replacing. Also noted that on the way to our room a spare room was open and stacked with tables etc which gave the impression of untidynes the door could have been closed to avert this. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful at all times.

The mercure part looked very shabby but we stayed at Walton hall which was lovely. Had dinner in the restaurant on the night which was lovely really enjoyed it. Had breakfast delivered to our suite on the next morning which we loved! Was so nice to have breakfast in bed! I’ve been contacted since for £30 worth of drinks bills that were “unpaid” - this wasn’t ours so there was some mix up as we only had a meal in the restaurant which was paid for before we left. It was a little frustrating to be contacted weeks after our stay chasing me for a bill that wasn’t mine to pay. However it has now been resolved. Would recommend staying in a suite - was lovely! Albeit the room was a little cold

The staff were pleasant, the room was comfortable and the surroundings are wonderful. Disappointed that the sauna wad not working at all during our stay sand the steam room wasn't particularly hot either. Also in the cold weather there was a noticeable draught coming in through the French doors of the hotel room. The breakfast was ok but the coffee was not nice!

Our first stay was in June this year we enjoyed so much we booked again for October before we left. It is a good half way place to meet up and spend a few days with my brother-in-law and his wife. Excellent service from Adam Thomas on Reception at check in and out.
