Tried to arrange an early check in as attending a wedding at Walton Hall and daughters part of the wedding party. Told differing information on 3 separate calls to the hotel before the event. Advised on the morning would be ok for early check in, to arrive and room not available. A room was found for us to use but had to ask for this as not offered by reception staff.

Room was very spacious & convenient for myself who has mobility problems & dogs. Food was very good. Only issue was changing rooms in pool area were very cold which spoilt the experience in the pool.

« Lovely grounds, rooms and other areas in need of maintenance »

The grounds are lovely, but unfortunately had a motel (or a student's hall of residence) feel , with basic rooms and having to walk outside to get to your block. At check in unfortunately we arrived when a coach pulled up. This meant the check-in process took some time as only one member of staff appeared to be checking in the multiple people. Another member of staff was there, so was surprised he didn't jump in to assist with checking everybody in. The rooms are basic with maintenance required - including black mould in grout and silicone in bathroom, peeling paint on window frames, outer doors that do not close, stained carpets, changing room doors that do not lock in swimming pool and showers that do not turn off automatically in swimming pools.

Prior to arriving at the hotel, my bank rejected the payment as they thought it was fraud. Immediately, I was called by a very rude lady saying I needed to find another card as they can't guarantee my booking. I asked if she could hold the room for 10 minutes while I rang my bank. She agreed and said I needed to ring her back. I rang back and nobody could find anybody to deal with my issue. I rang again and pressed a different extension number and this issue was finally sorted. I finally got a call back from my initial phone call the following day while in the spa. We rang the spa to book our treatments and nobody answered or returned our call when we left a message. The food and hotel room were exemplary. Our check-in was easy and the man on the front desk was more than helpful, giving us a choice of rooms and clear guidance on navigating the hotel. However, we booked our break as a spa break. There certainly was not any sort of relaxation going to happen. A pool full of screaming children, drilling by builders and even the therapist doing my massage continually spoke through my entire treatment. The steam room and sauna also had children in. The housekeeping team were shouting to each other in the corridor at 8am and banging on the doors of every room. It is a shame considering we had paid for this as a one off treat with the main focus being on unwinding as we both work busy jobs. I don't think we will be visiting again which is a shame because of the idyllic location, quality of food and standards of the rooms. All in all it was very messy and sloppy.

« Good despite British weather! »

We stayed at Walton Hall hotel and spa for a relaxing few days break before my daughter's A levels. Beautiful location, comfortable rooms and good food. We would have appreciated a jacuzzi in the spa as you expect that really and could do without housekeeping waking you up wanting to clean at 8:30, but we really enjoyed our stay overall and the staff went out of their way to provide good service.

We had a lovely spa break to celebrate a 40th birthday. Only spoilt by the weather as there was quite a bit of walking between restaurant, spa and bedroom. Pleasant atmosphere, attentive reception, excellent meal. Rather a lot of hanging around at the spa one massage had to be cancelled as the member of staff was ill which was disappointing. Overall good experience.

Initial room was awful - dirty and mattress like cardboard. Was given a discount on a room upgrade, but although this had better facilities, it was still in need of cleaning and repair. Was also very noisy - some of this was due to other guests leaving (loudly) at 5 AM, but we were also next to a housekeeping office, where someone kept running up the stairs, then out, leaving the door to slam in the small hours. Result = very little sleep. Had booked spa treatments for the following day to have a "lazy day" to relax, but these were cancelled when we turned up due to staff sickness. They'd tried to call us but the phone in our room didn't work. Didn't see any reason to spend any longer at Walton Hall - nothing really to do there, we'd done our sightseeing and our experience of the food wasn't exceptional, so checked out.

The whole experience was disappointing. Spa times changed to the following day, then as compensation for change was promised full body massage however this was not communicated to the spa team who didn’t have time to provide. Customer service lacking.

Disappointing, The first room 305 offered was small and shabby. The second room 221 was an improvement but curtains were broken , This was reported but no one attended. The heated Towel rail did not work when switched on. The bath safety mat was worn and falling apart. There were no lockers available as most were damaged. The Spa ran out of robes and slippers. The changes to the relaxation room are too bright and clinical and not as good as the previous decoration. There was little care for detail with no rapport with the client and no after care advice. No where near as good as our previous visits to this hotel.

We have been to this beautiful hotel at least 5 times and loved it, the hotel itself is beautiful and the surrounding area -wonderful. We have always stayed in the main hall but this time we were to stay in the small rooms more like a Campanile. We depressed at this so upgraded to a better room. Which was more expensive. We were very disappointed at this as with Secret a Escapes we are always given a superior room without asking, however the receptionist was utterl charming and we were given room 4 in the main hall. Our friends whe we met there were originally given room 4 but could not use it due to her disability!

Superb location, grounds, public rooms and bedrooms. Let down by the restaurant and the menu. A 4 star hotel with 2 star cuisine and presentation. I would have expected table cloths etc. Menu was pub grub only.
