« Beautiful setting, helpful staff, tasty food »

We had a bit of a struggle finding the entrance to the estate with google maps through the hotel link. It may be helpful For them to add written directions. Once there this is a lovely picturesque Hotel with beautiful grounds. The staff were very helpful and the food was quick at being delivered and was tasty. We were able to have the bar menu and sit outside as the sun was setting The room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was very tasty with lots of variety and delicious fresh fruit. We were stopping off on a long journey south but would happily have stayed longer to enjoy all the facilities.

First day evening meal ok. Second day breakfast was ok. We went to the spa used the facilities and had treatments. My wife had pedicure and was supposed to have an eyebrow tint, the receptionist failed to advise the test done the previous day needed to be kept on for 24 hours. A refund was promised in 10 minutes she still hasn't received this. Evening meal on the 2nd night was very poor, we had to send one meal back, other meals were extremely poor. We complained to the duty manager. Last morning we went for a swim before breakfast and our daughter got an electric shock whilst in the shower. All the lights went out in the all the hotel. Leisure centre staff didn't know what to do, duty manager refused to come, no first aider available. Eventually a first aid person was located and some 50 minutes later an ambulance was called. The paramedics also informed the police of the incident. The general manager spoke to use later while our poor breakfast was going cold and said he would call us, no call from him or an email, not sure he even apologised. Our daughter is speaking to her solicitor for advice about the incident and we will be making an official complaint regarding our stay.

« Lovely grounds, Hall, Hotel including restaurant »

We were pleased with a sunny warm weather for our stay. We were able to check in around 2pm and go for a beautiful walk in the grounds. After a quick swim in the gym we were ready for our evening meal and a couple of drinks. An evening scroll finished a lovely day. We had a good nights sleep in a very comfortable bed. Only when we opened the curtains did we realise how bright it was outside. A good breakfast and another good walk in the grounds :-) Improvement opportunities > modernisation of the pool area

Our daughter's wedding was held at Walton Hall on 4th August 2018. The day was absolutely perfect in every way. The wedding organisation was excellent and the hotel rooms were allocated as expected, all cleaned and ready on time. Some were ready for an early check in which guests were not charged extra for. The food served at the wedding, in the restaurant and at breakfast was all superbly presented, served professionally and tasted wonderful. An excellent venue for a wedding which we would highly recommend.

It took us 15minutes to check in. 1 person checking people in! We ordered room service and were calling for 40 minutes then I decided to call on my mobile and got through straight away. Staff weren't very friendly or helpful.

Arrived and had drinks with our friends, wanted to sit outside but no parasols. some were eventualy found. You ran out of two types of gin during our two night stay. they had no fever tree tonic . My roast beef meal was not good and was only offered a reduction on my desert if I want one, which I did not.

« I attended a wedding at Walton Hall and the whole day was perfect »

The wedding coordinator, wedding assistants and receptionists all made us feel extremely welcome. The hotel room was clean and well presented. The food at the wedding and at breakfast was fantastic I would recommend Walton Hall for a short stay and is a great wedding venue

« Poor Housekeeping, cold breakfast, poor service »

I have to say that I am most concerned about how the hotel is run – the service is very disjointed and shows a clear lack of management from the top down. Whilst some of the junior staff (ie restaurant) clearly work very hard, the overall lack of top level management is clearly telling and the outsourced housekeeping in particular needs immediate attention. Communication between front desk and housekeeping seems almost non-existent. The service and facilities provided are not to a 4 star standard, the cooked breakfast is cold, staff are unaware of the £23 allocation on the main menu, housekeeping is very poor and not present in parts – to the point they are unable to respond to a simple request for additional pillows. I contracted with yourselves for a stay at a 4 star establishment, I did not receive this as detailed below. I would like to make a formal complaint with reference to the following:- - Cold breakfast on both days. The heat lamps are not effective for the cooked breakfast and a visit from environmental health would confirm that cooked breakfast foods are not maintained at correct temperature to avoid food poisoning. - TV remote in room not working properly – some buttons did not function at all. - Extra pillows for my pregnant wife not provided – despite my asking by email before arrival by email (below) and on arrival at reception. - Bedside lamp not working - Staff at dinner was unaware of £23 main menu allocation allowance – had we not been told the night before, we would not have been informed of this option. - Housekeeping removed key from electricity slot in room and kept it. - Housekeeping remove toiletries which were still in use – these were not replaced. This resulted in us not having shampoo to use on the second day. - On requesting housekeeping staff for new toilet roll (as one had not been replaced) I was appalled to find that she did not speak any English and so was unable to help. My 7 months pregnant wife was left to use very the low quality toilet roll provided once the better quality roll was used up – I would suggest that the lower quality paper should be reserved for inmates, rather than 4 star hotel guests. - Noise from children in adjoining room through the door was unacceptable – separate adult guests should not be allocated adjoining rooms next to children’s rooms. An adjoining door is not sufficient to prevent noise leakage. - Key card stopped working after 1st day – I had to go back to reception to get this reactivated. - Dinner slot not booked for us, despite my calling to confirm the time several hours before hand. - Door voile in room is mouldy and needs replacing

Enjoyed our stay but would recommend you have a room with air conditioning, especially Smith the weather being so hot, as the room was very stuffy. Reception staff were very friendly and did give us a fan. The waiting staff were not very efficient after asking for the wine list we waited 20 mins before anyone took our order and the restaurant was not busy for them to be this slow . Other than that amazing time , would re visit

« Disappointing »

Having stayed here previously this was like a different hotel. I only booked on the Friday as a surprise for my girlfriend. I asked for a bottle of wine in the room on arrival; this didn't happen. We booked the 3 course inclusive meal. When my main course arrived there was a 4 inch white hair in it, obviously I sent it back. They did not ask my girlfriend if she wanted to return hers and so consequently we ended up eating separately by the time my meal arrived. After this we decided not to bother with desert. Barely was an apology offered although the waiter finally didn't charge us for one glass of wine. The restaurant manager didn't even bother coming over to the table and the only comment he made on the way out was that he couldn't understand how it had had happened as the chef was bald!!!! I'm not sure if he was trying to make light of it or what and so I just let the comment pass. We checked out the next morning but I did not say anything at check out as I did not want to in front of my girlfriend or other customers as I didn't think that to be fair. I did however phone up on Monday to voice my disappointment and was told that my comments would be passed onto management who would look into it and contact me. I have received neither call nor e mail which basically adds insult to injury. All in all not a great return for a £249 night out. I have stayed with Mercure on numerous occasions over the years but will n ot be doing so again if I do not hear back after this review.

Very good. Quiet room, friendly staff, good leisure centre, tasty breakfast, superb location. Would be useful to have a fridge in room as there was not enough milk and we bought fresh but it was off by following morning. Would definitely recommend to others and we will return again.

« An excellent wedding anniversary break »

From the moment we arrived we found the staff to be extremely polite, helpful and friendly. The hotel is set in exquisitely beautiful grounds and is very quiet and tranquil. The food was lovely and generous sized portions, breakfast was a vast array of everything you would want for breakfast and more. Our room was spacious, clean and well presented with everything you would need(including iron and ironing board), the bathroom was large and very clean. All in all it was a perfect break away for our wedding anniversary.

« Excellent apart from no A/C with Privilege Room »

Everything was perfect except for one of THE most important aspects of a room... its temperature. I stayed in #14 the night previous & that had A/C, my cousin in #310 had A/C but a more expensive room (doesn't matter how big it is) had no A/C so I slept very poorly. I was there for my cousin's wedding & everything about it was great except my missing A/C. Huge impact & lasting tainted memory.
