Run done room, I didn’t pay for it as I had Tesco vouchers however, I was extremely disappointed with the room! The restaurant was not open either.

We normally close the restaurant for the first week or 2 of the new year as it is not only quiet in the hotel, but it allows us some much needed time to re decorate and clean the area using some strong chemicals. We received excellent customer service from the moment we arrived to when we departed. The hotel is in a good location for our requirements and the facilities were excellent. I would recommend this to friends and family and will be using the hotel again

This is our 4 visit to the Noke and as always the staff are excellent, and the food great. Unfortunately the rooms are in need of refurbishment as the carpets on both our last two visits were worn and stained.

On entering the hotel: Waited in the entrance for in excess of 5 minutes due to a customer in front complaining about their room and wanting to exchange. The receptionist offered no apology for the delay and provided a very robotic service with no personal touch . On leaving the hotel: The reception staff also appeared robotic with no personal greeting or even asking about the stay. After handing the keycard back I was left standing there wondering if I needed to do anything else, there was no indication that the interaction was complete, no thank yous or goodbyes. I had to ask if there was anything else before being told no, it's all done. The Bad: The room was dated. The furniture damaged and falling apart (the drawer below TV broken, door had wood peeling off, chair broken). The TV an early flat screen with no HD and no option to plug a HDMI cable in, channels not working and a remote covered in dirt and numbers that had worn off. Noise from the air conditioning outlet units below window (no air con in the actual room) and seal around window missing in places leaving a hole at the top of the window about 2cm wide. All the radiators in the room were switched off on arrival, when turning them on the indicator by the dial just spun with the dial. The carpet was worn and thin in patches. The Good: The bed was comfortable, clean and nicely made. The WiFi was strong throughout, with good connection and easy to connect to. The shower was powerful. The bath clean with taps that filled the bath at an adequate pace. The breakfast selection was superb, tasted great and the only bug bear was the small glasses for juice and water. The dining room was well insulated from the noisy traffic outside and provided a comfortable place to eat. The real gem for the hotel is the facilities. Whilst a bit too small (no more than 4 people could swim lengths), the pool was clean, warm and provided a relaxing atmosphere. The Jacuzzi was soothing yet powerful. The steam and sauna rooms perfect. The gym area looked modern, had a good variety of equipment and didn't get overcrowded. Interactions with other staff: Aside from the reception staff, all interactions with staff were professional and polite. The dining staff appeared friendly, with one apologising for making me wait for service (whilst only waiting less than 30 seconds). The gym staff excelled, they were kind, engaging and helpful. The gym staff provide a great range of knowledge about the service. They provided personal greetings and on the occasion they were dealing with a customer, offered acknowledgement and apologies for the delay. Overall: As many of the other reviews on the internet say, the hotel is dated and needs an urgent modernisation. If it wasn't for the leisure facilities on site I couldn't wholeheartedly recommend the hotel. If the rooms were modernised to the same standard, or better than the Mercure in Stevenage (A1M), this would be an excellent hotel. The reception staff don't seem to have great customer service, but the dining staff, and especially the leisure facilities staff made up for this by providing a first class service.

I stay frequently at the hotel and always find the experience a pleasant one however, in recent times it is becoming increasingly difficult to get through to reservations to make bookings which I need to do frequently. In addition to this, I am disappointed that the restaurant is closed so often, as not everyone wants to sit in the bar to eat, nor in the room. On a positive note, the staff (all areas) bar, restaurant, reception are all exceptionally welcoming, friendly and go that bit further to ensure that all is OK and your stay is pleasant. Reservations Justyna is exceptionally helpful, inspires confidence and really does a great job.

« Disappointing, not up to usual standards »

Heating in room did not work, was very cold, but having driven directly to hotel after a 750 mile journey from Italy, and having to get up for a 5am departure, I did not have time nor inclination to complain. At check out, no-one was there - I had to summon someone working in the restaurant to assist with check out as i was in a rush.

I booked a double room online as a member of acor. When we arrived we were told it was a twin bedded room - which wasn't good given that we had booked a double-bed room. The staff member recognised this and as there were no double rooms available upgraded us to a superior room which had a double bed. This was a good resolution.

Due to work, I need to start overnight near St Albans regularly. This is my first trial on your hotel. I am afraid that it didn't live up to my expectation. Even with heavy discount, I will still think twice before I book you again.

All of the heating is controlled centrally in the standard rooms (the superior rooms have air conditioning) and in effect, the heating is therefore off or on. We do provide fans and additional heaters to allow for individual preference in case it is too cold or too hot but I appreciate that this is not ideal and we are hoping to get air conditioning placed in all of the rooms. At present, we have the highest percentage of rooms with air conditioning in the area, but appreciate it will be so much better once the total number of bedrooms have it installed. I requested ground floor due to disability but was put in room 208. I tripped and cut my leg which due to my medical condition bled heavily all night. Dirty room, dirty towels, inedible and uncooked breakfast which left me with stomach issues for days as I have an autoimmune condition and am on immunosuppressants. The sausages were raw and I'd bitten into one before I realised, the bacon was undercooked and everything tasted of metal. Shocking!

« Room adequate but staff and hospitality fantastic »

The room was adequate, quite tired and a few bits of damage but clearly not enough to warrant repair but likewise not enough that we felt the need to do anything about it. The room was clean and a good size. We were staying for a function so really weren’t expecting much. The staff were really lovely and helpful and are a credit to the hotel. Fantastic breakfast the next day.
