Booked well in advance and on booking I asked for the rooms to be located together on arrival this was not the case but was rectified by desk staff. Also requested bath robes in each room again this was not done until requested again at the desk then they were provided. Staff were friendly and helpful at all times.

« Served a perpose.. but staff were rude! »

Hotel from the outside looks lovely, but to be greated by possibly the worst receptionist I have ever encounted ruined it straight away for us! It was the night Porter. We arrived and was very cocky and rude to us as we arrived at 2am even tho I called up the day prior to advise! Told me I had no booking and when I tried to give a booking ref he refused to take it and advised you do not deal with booking refs just names so I gave him my name and advise my booking wasn't even there. In the end after 10 mins I was told it was there and had already been checked in prior to my arrival?? I work in a hotel and have never heard ignored this before. I also had a booking for the 2nd night through super break and was told that wasn't even there? Eventually he found it. He handed my partner the key and then snatched it out of his hand to write a code on for the gym no apology or anything! Bad customer service right there. No idea what time breakfast wasn't or what time the pool was open etc! From working in a hotel doing a receptionist job and seeing it from the other side as a guest I was furious! I know we have off days but to be spoken to like that is not right! He ask for my card for a pre auth totoaly understsnd as I do the same but I asked to pay outright over 2 cards as we split the cost between us. He advised no! This is not possible after 11pm so he took my card and 'pre auth' the room rate. Upon check out I went to give the receptionist my card a lady not sure on her name to be told the transaction went as a sale? Why did this happen,! When I raised all these problems on check out not once did I get an apology or anything. I brought my partner away for a belated Christmas present and I left embarrassed! Also when down at the pool we went to the reception desk but didn't want to interrupt the receptionist who was to busy talking about her nail polish to even akolwadge we was there we eventually found our own way round and it was nice .. it was probably one of the only things we actually enjoyed. Some memembers of staff we met were lovely so I will give them credit for that. But we will not be back as it didn't live up to our expectations. I begrudge leaving having paid the full price for such rubish service yes it was 59 pound which isn't much but it's the principle and guest should leave happy with a great experience!

The hotel went out of the way to help by opening our room a good 4 hours for us to use to get ready for a wedding. The place was clean and the beds comfortable We attended the wedding in the grounds and the next day used the spa. excellent value and we didn't have to vacate the room until 12 noon

The hotel is tired and smells like cheap perfume everywhere. The TV did not work and the walls are paper thin you can hear everything, bad staining beside bed on carpet in room 155 I booked to stay all week left one day earlier than I was supposed to as I could not take it for one more night. Shower was good and gym was great....I will be working in St Albans for the next 18 months but not staying at the Noke.

Tv not working Noisy air conditioning unit outside window which kept us awake all night not helped by a hot room and couldn’t open window because of the noise Wrong drink given at breakfast twice Toaster didn’t work properly Reception staff member not listening so I had to repeat myself Advised wrongly at pool meaning my daughter couldn’t have a swim - was told I didn’t have to be in the pool with her when I did (I didn’t have a swimming costume).

We had a family trip meeting with my daughter and baby who lives in London. The staff were helpful and well informed when we asked about local amenities. The pool and leisure was really clean and the temperature of the water just right. We thoroughly enjoyed the meals in the hotel and hadn't expected the evening meal to be so tasty - breakfasts are usually good in most hotels. We will be back and would like to hear of any special offers

« Overall another very pleasant stay at The Noke. »

Excellent staff who were efficient and friendly. Only real problem, and it IS a problem was the hot buffet for breakfast. There MUST BE A WAY OF KEEPING FOOD HOT !! A goof full English Breakfast is something to look forward to when away. Dreadful on Saturday so didn't even bother to try it again on Sunday. Hot plates would help but the plate warmer wasn't even on on Saturday. Must do better !!!

Staff friendly and helpful, and good breakfast, all as expected. Room a good size and bed very comfortable. One or two minor problems, which I would have told the staff about if I had been staying a second night: the room was over-heated, even after I had adjusted the radiator, and I was unable to open the window. Luckily the bathroom window could be opened, and the fan in the room (initially a surprise) proved useful when I ran it briefly.

« Excellent staff, okay hotel »

The hotel staff were brilliant: very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the hotel itself doesn't meet the same standard. Small beds (which were not particularly comfortable), and paper-thin walls were not conducive to a good night's sleep. Very convenient location, excellent staff, and the gym and pool are a real bonus. Once the older part of the hotel is refurbished, I would agree with the four-star rating.

Check in went smoothly (done online), room clean, well equipped and reasonable size though carpet looking tired in places. Felt that the scent in the corridors was, at times, somewhat overpowering. Bed comfortable and warm though felt the pillows were a bit thick. Breakfast was good, plenty of choice and well prepared, slight taste to the water made the tea unpleasant (did notice other guests also picking up on this). Gym and pool facilities were good, well maintained and clean. Staff were pleasant, helpful and keen. Only downside was the levels of noise from the corridors and adjoining rooms... You could clearly hear taps running, toilets flushing, appliances being plugged in, people's voices etc.. and people going along the corridor outside your room. Hotel was very conveniently located close to motorway though noise from there wasn't a problem.

We are currently working on the stains we have on the carpets and are hoping to have this resolved within the next 4 weeks. Your point about water is an interesting one. We have our water checked externally and the results are always good so when we had them checked and had the same positive result, I am baffled by what I can do as I guess I am just used to it being here for so long. I will keep my eye on the water tests results and see if there is any noticeable difference in its content. The room was okay nothing that you wouldn’t have in a travelodge though. Although a travelodge would probably have more space. The thing that tipped me over the edge was the noise, we could here every word that was said by someone walking down the corridor (even between 12-1am) and you could here every footstep from the people on the floor above

« Pleasant stay helped by lovely staff »

The hotel was Nice with good rooms and nice communal areas. The staff were all very pleasant and friendly. The TV seemed a little dated and a pain to use, it was a bit unresponsive and some of the number buttons on the remote didn't seem to work. But that is my only slight criticism of an otherwise good stay, the walls are quite thin and easy to hear the next room but that isn't really something that can be changed!
