Car park a long way from reception, which was not well signed. We walked round three quarters of the hotel before asking in the restaurant how to get there. Text message had said our key would be ready to collect after 2pm (Accor Club member). When we arrived at 11pm check-in was very slow, there was no double room available so we had to accept a twin room that had been booked to someone else, with a long walk with our bags back to the room. The bath panel in the bathroom was made from a painted absorbent material that had soaked up water and swollen and looked very shoddy. Not the best Accor Hotel we have stayed in.

Satisfactory some confusion over booking and breakfast which was directly over the phone some time previously with hotel. This was sorted out with manager during stay. Toothbrush charger left at hotel. After ringing, speaking to foreign girl and leaving number to facilitate collection by my son who lives in st Albans, no call back was received. Now back home. Unsatisfactory communication on both occasions.

Stayed at The Noke due to a family wedding. Room was clean and comfortable however bathroom very small and wall fairly thin so noise from other rooms heard clearly

Has to ask 4 times and 2 different staff for a coffee at breakfast and had finished breakfast by the time we got it. Noticed the Fan in our room hadn’t been PAT tested since 2016. Tried to return to our room via a private party that was going on and got ushered out straight being told we couldn’t go through the way and to walk outside around the hotel to get to our room even though access to our room was just through the door.....surely a sign on the door to party directing guests around to their room would be much better!

2 functions occurring on second night of my stay. Music continued til after 1am followed by noisey drunken behaviour for reminder of night. Was not informed of functions when booking or at check in. Worst night ever in a hotel. Would not stay again.

Reception staff were extremely difficult to understand and I had to ask were my room was and what time breakfast was. Breakfast was poor and the chef obviously had a problem and looked very angry and pushed through the guests getting food. Hotel was very tired and slightly dirty. Towels were poor quality.

Room was ground floor and very basic indeed, not as good as a previous stay. Bathroom was cold and had no blind (just frosted glass) which on a ground-floor room isn't really acceptable, nor did it have any fan, just a slatted glass vent (no wonder it was chilly) glad it wasn't December. Air Conditioning fans (presumably for other rooms, certainly not mine) buzzed all night long. Overall not great, also terms of Dinner, Bed & Breakfast not explained at all at check so we didn't realise we were entitled to dinner and it was charged extra for the one night we did eat in.

« TIRED HOTEL BUT PLEASANT STAY »

The staff were friendly and helpful. The food including restaurant, very good. The Hotel is a bit tired, in need of updated décor. The room was cleaned daily. Everything you could need was in the room and worked. Downside, the room was very old fashioned and grotty. The sink was cracked, Holes on tiles where old shower rail used to be. Very good staff keeping room clean, changing towels, loo rolls etc. Overall a pleasant stay.

The staff at the hotel were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Our room felt outdated. It was very noisy from not only the busy main road but also we could hear the people in the room next door arguing. The TV didn’t have all of the freebies channels on it as you would expect.

My experience was fine. I was disappointed that when I made my booking I was not informed I would not be able to use the Restaurant in the evening as this had been hired out. If I had know this at the time of booking I may have had the opportunity to make a booking at a different Hotel.

Accommodation and staff were both excellent. Only issue was fire alarm briefly going off early hours of the morning. As i am a light sleeper i found it difficult to get back to sleep and could hear people in adjacent room talking as they had been woken up too.

We arrived to check in at 10 pm and were given a key to our room. I had booked a Superior Double but the room turned out to be Superior Twin. I rang reception. They said they didn't have any Superior Doubles left and I could just have a Standard room. No apology at this stage. I said I wanted the room I booked. She said she'd send the Duty Manager. So we waited in the room. For 10 or 15 minutes. Hanging about, waiting. When he arrived, he explained that it was not the hotel's fault but booking.com and that because I had paid in advance he could not offer me a refund - he could not authorise it and the General Manager was not in until Monday. And that they had no more Superior Doubles. He made it sound like my fault, or booking.com's fault rather than their fault (or a problem with their booking system they need to sort out). By this stage, I was upset. I felt he and the receptionist were being rude and unhelpful. He even patronisingly explained that even if he could refund me, the money would not clear until Monday because banks are closed on Sunday. As if this was something I would not know. Eventually he persuaded us to go to see a Standard Double, after reassuring us that we would be reimbursed for the difference in price. We did actually consider going home (we live in London and had been to a wedding in Hertfordshire). We saw the room. It was smaller. It had a Mira shower from the 1980s. Still, it was getting late and we decided to stay. At this point he offered us free food (we'd eaten at the wedding) or drinks, and did bring us a bottle of champagne. Which was nice. However, he also promised that the General Manager would contact me to arrange my refund of "30% or more". That was Saturday 8th Sept. It's now Thursday 13th and I have heard nothing from them. This is not the customer service I expect from a 4* hotel. I booked a better room because the reviews (rightly) pointed out that the smaller ones were a bit tired. And ended up in one of those and paying the higher price. It's totally unacceptable for them to not contact me when they had said they would. The whole experience was extremely disappointing. There are better hotels in St Albans where the customer service meets the star-rating.

Had our wedding here and all the staff were absolutely amazing! They took care of everything, we ha nothing to stress about. The bar staff were fantastic, very helpful and cheerful. Amazing start to finish. The moment we arrived we had champagne handed to us to the moment we left and bar staff Harry helped carry our bits to the car!
