Large spacious hotel but in need of a revamp. Bathroom was ok - towels very thin and in need of replacement, toiletries minimal. The pillows were vary basic. A good breakfast selection with lovely staff.

« Very pleasent with room for improvement. »

A very pleasant stay in the heart of Exeter's city centre. Staff are very courteous and helpful. My room was clean and well presented, although missing some expected essentials such as shower gel and shampoo. Also, I didn't have the best nights sleep due to a faulty/very hot radiator, which was on during the hottest Ocotber in history. The only truly odd experince was the buffett lunch, a combination of sandwiches and small main meals in tiny bowls for one person.

« Comfortable stay, good conferencing facilities, staff were kind, friendly and attentive . »

Three nights and three days of conferencing made all the more enjoyable by the hotels central location. I really enjoyed being able to get fresh air in the park or visiting local attractions. Lunch, snacks, evening meals and breakfast were included. The the choice and food quality was good and there was lots of it - especially fruit which was great. The room was comfortable, clean and functional. Importantly the bathroom was modern and very clean. I thought the room was well decorated (except the ball of wool picture) relaxing colour palet, heavy luxurious drapes and soft bedding. I did not like the wool ball picture at all - wrong scale, wrong picture, not relaxing - really confused and did not understand how it fitted in so I tried not to look at it as it felt opressive, did not match the relaxing feel of the room and put my teeth on edge.

Please allow me to explain about the ball of wool on the wall in your bedroom, Widely known for its famous textile industry, Exeter was once home to a series of ancient wool mills and became the centre for the woollen trade in the South West, boasting three purpose built cloth markets at its peak. This formed the inspiration for the bedroom design. I'm really sorry that you found the ball of wall to be oppressive. « Business, functional but in need of TLC. »

The staff were great but the hotel is very run down. It needs a lot of money spending on it to bring it anywhere near the standard it should be. Bedrooms are too basic and old, function rooms are nice but dated and all furnishings are well past their best. You must invest heavily in bringing this hotel up to standard.

« ok, staff not great when attending a wedding evening - tidying up at 10.30!! »

We stayed one night, it was a Saturday & we could here music until about 2am, it wasn't from the hotel though, but kept us awake. We went to a wedding evening party on the Saturday 6th October & I think the staff involved in that were quite rude - they came into the room at 10.30pm & started taking off all the sashes from the chairs & removing the covers, then picked up some tables & rolled them out, yes there was only a few people left at the party, but they had booked the room until 1am! - they made us feel, like we needed to get up, so they could tidy up our chair too! - they even stacked the chairs up from the top table. They then proceeded to keep looking in the door, to see if we were still there, so they could tidy up more! - it spoilt the end of the wedding evening party! - the ladies that greeted us on the main reception were lovely. The lad running the bar, didn't seem to know how much certain drinks were!

Easy check in and departure. Only reason its not a ten is that the room was very cold on arrival as the window was open. I closed it (of course) but it seemed to take all night to warm up again

« SUPERB LOCATION »

The Rougemont is a lovely hotel right in the centre of the city with, [if you are lucky], on site parking. we have stayed there a number of times and found it to be an excellent hotel. Unfortunately on our last stay, 05/06 October the fire alarm went off at 2am!! However, this did not affect our overall opinion of the hotel

My son and I arrived on Thursday 4th at about 7 pm, check in was ok, I had booked 2 nights then added the Thursday night, this I was told was changed to a single booking, however on arrival I was told I had to check in again on the Friday, though we would be staying in the same room. We went up to the room which met my expectations, then came down to eat in the Drake's Bar. We were told bey the young barman we could sit anywhere, as there was only 2 of us we chose a table for two between two others. The other two tables had not been cleared so still had dirty plates etc on them. We perused the menu and waited, the barman was busy sorting glasses and stock then the duty manager came in, looked at us, spoke and joked about with the bar man. The barman left and then the Duty manager danced and sang a bit behind the bar, taking no notice of us at all. After 15 to 20 mins we got up and walked out, just as the barman was reentering the room. He said nothing, the duty manager said nothing. You lost 3 days of meals due to that. We had already booked breakfast which on the first morning Friday we were shown to a table, offer tea or coffee and told to help our selves from the food bar. The following morning we were told to sit anywhere, we were not offered tea or coffee, we fetched our food and still were not offered coffee, then saw that flasks of coffee were on the side. We should have been told it was a different system on the weekend. We are not mind readers. On Sunday Morning the same thing happened and the Duty manager from Thursday Night came dancing and sining into the dining room trying to impress the two waitresses. He did not impress us. I would stay again if I had too, if we were attending a course in the hotel again, even though the room was far too hot, even with the 3 windows open, and for me the bed was too hard, so didn't sleep well. The hotel is convenient for the town and Central Railway station and on the whole staff were friendly and professional. Could have been so much better and you could have made more money out of us for meals.

The hotel was well situated for what we wanted to do while staying in Exeter, our room was very comfortable, the staff pleasant and helpful. There appeared to be several groups staying and this showed in the very slow service in the bar / restaurant on two occasions - another staff member on duty would have helped.
