The hotel is in a great location, being across the street from Exeter Central Railway Station and close to shops and restaurants. It reminded us of an old country pub, complete with elegant stairway and creaky floorboards. Our privilege room was quite large but sparsely furnished. An armchair or two would have been a nice addition. The bed was comfortable but the torn doona cover was not a good look. The bathroom was small but modern with a walk in shower and towels that were obviously meant for little people with tough skin. Toiletries, mini-bar items and coffee/tea making supplies were not replenished unfortunately. The usual Le Club Accor platinum member benefits were given: room upgrade and welcome drink vouchers. Pre- stay emails were answered promptly and all requests granted.

« Great Hotel in a great location »

The room was very pleasant and fully up to our expectations. The breakfast was very good. Well cooked, well presented and very tasty. Also a good choice of hot and cold dishes. We didn't have dinner there as there are plenty of restaurants about. We felt the parking was expensive (£15 per night) for a first come- first served arrangement. Their are other parking options but they involve getting up before 8.00am to buy another ticket. The rrception was very efficient and the checking in and out process very simple. Overall a great stay and one that we would repeat

If I stay in Exeter then it is always with the Rougemont Hotel. Staff are helpful and friendly. It is a bonus that the food is available until late at the bar which means you do not have to leave the hotel but can relax once you have arrived.

« Disappointing Stay at Rougemont »

Before arriving we were notified the lift was not working. On arrival the reception area was found to be very tidy and impressive. Reception was a struggle with the receptionist being locked in some existing concussion. However the service was acceptable once it was our turn. I felt the computer monitors were too high and put a barrier between staff and customers. Our room was not ready at gone 1400hrs but was not a problem. On returning and receiving keys to room 138 we attacked the stairs and easily found our room. On entering this it was disappointing to note the size of this double room was small little more than a single room with a double bed shoehorned in and only 1 hardback chair the other occupant had to sit on the end of the bed. The decor of both room and ensuite was very good, but it was during a period of warm weather and the room was hot and airless. We tried the windows to gain some air but this was inoperable, as you know there was no air-conditioning. We were entertained a guest on the Saturday evening and visited Drake's Bar which had the atmosphere of Drake's Bilge. We were unsure if in fàct it was open but was assured by a young lady loading a trolly with trays of glasses it was. On taking a table which was vacant and clearing the glasses from the previous occupants I had to request a cloth to wipe the table of previous spilt drinks. On finishing our drinks we requested a meal table and were attended too by a young waiter who lifted the gloom with very good service. The meal was acceptable but not to the quality expected from a hotel of your quality and standing. When trying to pay for the meal your waiter could not get the card machine to work to collected another from reception this also was a non work as it seemed to be out of range of its designated connection point. The area supervisor was summond who seemed more interested in what was wrong with the first machine. A gent in a suit appeared and took control, I think he was the night manager as he was the only one with a pen. I was asked to sign a copy of the bill which I did but was told I must visit reception to pay a deposit so it could be added to my room. I had settled my bill previously so we could make an early departure Sunday morning. So requested that I could pay the total bill for the meal at this time so being free to leave, this was refused and had to pay £30 deposit and the remainder the following morning after a longish queue. I must add we were very impressed by the breakfast room, food and service, full marks for that. We only wish the evening meal could have so well organised as our visitor/ guest was local and feel sure she will not be recommending you either.

« A warm and welcoming stay in a lovely hotel »

As a celebration of our Golden Wedding we were visiting the hotels we stayed in on our honeymoon! The Rougemont was an overnight stay we made then, and now, on the way to Cornwall. The building has retained all its wonderful architectural features but has upgraded beautifully in 50 years! We were made especially welcome with wine and cake in our room, and given a guided tour or some of the beautiful function rooms. The staff were delightful, we had an excellent stay.
