« A DISASTEROUS STAY FROM START TO FINISH »

On arrival although prepared for it the parking was extremely limited, however we did find a spot in a corner. We then checked in and were allocated room 307 which is almost in the attic. The room was certainly not deluxe, the door opens almost directly onto the bed, there are no bedside tables apart from a small round table next to the door, on the other side of the bed the wardrobe abuts against the side of the bed. The bathroom although large is unheated which necessitates leaving the bed room door open to transfer the heat (apparently none of the bathrooms are heated in this hotel) Our reason in selecting this hotel was its proximity to the Cathedral where we were attending the Christmas carol concert. After the concert we were intending to pick up our car and visit some friends in the locality. This is where the fun really started, our car was boxed in by 5 cars parked in a line in front of one complete row of the parking. We proceeded to reception to resolve the problem and found it completely unmanned. After a 10 to 15 minute wait we managed to find a member of staff and asked how we could get our car out either immediately or early next morning as we had an early departure. We were informed that he would have to search out the owners who were possibly in one of the function rooms. We said we would wait in the bar and were told the bar had no staff as they were working in the function rooms. We were told the Drakes bar was open (this bar is akin to a tired railway waiting room). At this stage we gave up on the idea of getting our car out of the car park. After proceeding to the car park and taking photographs of the culprit cars we tried to get a drink and some kind of snack, this in itself proved a major achievement. Eventually Melissa arrived and valiantly went into the very wet and rainy night to identify the cars and subsequently the owners. She kindly assured us that as a compensatory gesture she we would not be charged for our room and would not be charged for our drinks in the bar. We eventually retired to our room which although on a high floor was still subject to the band and outside smokers etc. from the two weddings taking place. We had an exceedingly poor nights sleep owing to mattress springs sticking into our backs and concrete like pillows. In conclusion I cannot understand how the hotel allows such thoughtless and to some degree dangerous unsupervised car parking practices. Although I was not charged for this stay I still await the £150 charge on account to my card to be removed/refunded. Sadly we will not return to this hotel and I will think twice about using Club Accor hotels in the future

We were with you for a work Christmas party. Lovely venue. But only 2 or 3 bar staff when there was a free tab was frustrating. I would have also liked someone to make my tea and toast and bring it to the table for £95 per head.

We stayed with you in December last year and booked to stay the same time this year as it was my partners birthday. I didn't book anywhere to eat out as we were going to eat in the restaurant. When we checked in no one asked if we wanted to book a table to eat which we thought was strange. We went to our room, the most expensive one you have, to find that the tv in the living area had been taken away. The next day things were not refilled properly in our room either. Our main issue was after checking in we went downstairs to find a lot of people waiting for parties to start in the function rooms, we thought there would be Christmas parties due to the time of year but there were a lot more than normal. We went to the restaurant to find it was completely closed, ready for a party to eat in there I guess! So we went to the bar which was packed with people from the parties. We asked reception where we were meant to go! They said the bar we would quieten down soon and we could eat in there!!! No one told us the restaurant would be closed when we booked We waited around for an hour and a half with no where to really go, we just hovered around and eventually sat under the stairs! We actually went out down to Gandy St to see if we could eat anywhere but everywhere was full. My partner had cut his leg open that day so we couldn't walk very far. We went back and there was still no where for us to go! So we went up to our room to get room service, but they didn't answer, so we had to go back down to reception to ask for food. It arrived 40 minutes later stone cold. You completely ruined our weekend due to greed! You clearly wanted every space possible used for these parties but didn't want to tell your normal guests the truth when they book. We are really annoyed about the money we spent there for such a bad experience. I don't think we would ever come back now, I don't normally write reviews and I don't think this would be a surprise for you as you must know you can't cater to your normal guests properly, I feel like others should know so they don't waste thier time and money like we did. Your reception staff were lovely, we didn't moan at them as we could see the situation and knew there was nothing they could do. We could see they felt bad.

on arriving was told we were not booked in , this happened the last time we arrived , on producing phone e mail was told it was cancelled the previous night . if it wasn't for the lady on the desk who I say was very good and bubbly , she managed to upgrade our room for the inconvenience. what may make me look for another hotel , is what would have happened if the hotel was fully booked ?

« A very enjoyable stay. Excellent central location. A few minutes walk to shops and cathedral etc. »

On the whole an enjoyable stay. Bedroom spacious with a good en-suite. Staff, in the main, were very helpful and friendly. The only downside was the Drake's Bar which would benefit from a close and regular overview by management. We visited the Bar each evening of our two night stay and each time tables had not been cleared. There were empty teapots, cups etc. left on many tables and it would appear these had perhaps not been cleared from afternoon visitors. We asked the bar staff to move the items, which there were, with no apology, however the table was then left with left wet from the left over spillages. On each visit my wife asked for a gin and tonic and the only glasses available were half pint beer glasses! That was despite asking for a more suitable glass. Please train your bar staff AND purchase some G&T glasses!! You are a 4* hotel!

Rooms freezing...bathroom especially. Towels small and thin in fact almost threadbare. Function going on so we had a disco in our room. Great location and lovely building. Staff lovely. Couldn't get served in bar...not enough staff.

We were greeted on arrival by a friendly receptionist who made us feel very welcome (unlike some hotels we have stayed at where the receptionists have been somewhat cold and aloof) The room was warm .clean well appointed and comfortable, the breakfasts we had pre booked were very tasty and there was a good selection of various foods to choose from, and again the staff were friendly and helpful The only downside to our stay was when we went to the bar for a nightcap we were ignored by the bar staff so we left without having a drink, but as there was a function on we supposed that their attention was elsewhere, but this did spoil what otherwise a perfect stay with you

Some parts of room where dusty and marked our clothes when placing on these shelves. The Bathroom was so small the shower door would only open 30% because it would hit the sink, so getting in and particularly getting out with wet feet was challenging trying not to slip. Then the shower was so small with a massive shower head that it was like receiving Japanese water torture when using it as you had no room to escape or move around. The toilet was also in a narrow cubby of bathroom where you’d burn your arm on the towel radiator every time you’d use it.

The location and hotel itself was great but although we were pre-warned of a party on the Saturday, by phone, where we requested to be kept as far away from the noise as possible, we were placed directly above the DJ. We were unable to get any sleep or watch TV due to the loud booming and bass vibrations. Although ringing down twice and walking down to reception to complain and ask for the noise to sorted or for us to be re-located, nothing was done. We raised this with the manager in the morning who seemed to be aware of the sound problem and we were given a 50% reduction on the room. We would rather have had a good nights sleep but appreciated the acknowledgement of the issue.

« Quiet stay even though hotel was busy »

I enjoyed the peace of my 3rd floor room. 318.The bathroom fully modernised was lacking a towel rail. Unfortunately on my second night I was up with food poisoning. I ate the prawn linguine in the Drakes Bar. Hopefully a one off as I shall be using the hotel regularly for work. Second stay a week later, comfortable, room 136 very compact and adequate but lots of disturbance from doors banging in corridor.
