« Helpful staff and good food »

Traveling with young children poses challenges. The staff at Mercure Haydock were genuinely eager to find ways to help make our stay better, from room setup, food and pool facilities. When we made a mistake ordering food, the chef and restaurant staff graciously fixed it with no additional cost to us. We truly appreciated the family approach to running the hotel. Thank you.

Nice size room very clean, very happy with tea coffee making facility. Comfortable bed, great shower. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely return and recommend to friends and colleagues.

Visited for a conference with my daughter then stayed over for the night to make a weekend of it. Had an accessible twin room which very comfortable with plenty of space, Our only problem was a blocked drain in the shower room ,,,so flooded the whole room when having a shower and this caused an unpleasant drains smell. So a lack of maintenance there it seems. However the receptionist was very helpful. There were no spare accessible rooms left and after hours for the maintenance staff to sort the drain so she saw that the room was moped clean and dry and my daughter and I had a complimentary evening meal. The swimming pool area is very good and all on one level so good for me with a mobility problem. The breakfast was also very good with a good choice of hot and cold foods. On the whole we enjoyed our stay

Superb hotel which delivers a 4 star service. Stunning entrance with a friendly welcome from Megan at reception nothing was too much trouble. Had a beautiful spacious room Ate in the lounge Eleanor abdctge two guys were very attentive and friendly Dined in the restaurant for breakfast and again the service from David and Sam was so professional yet friendly too Food was delicous Overall had a great stay and would highly recommend this Hotel.

They stay and breakfast was a more improved than last time. However upon collecting room key was give a room that was already occupied! New room key was provided. At breakfast the 2nd person was missing even though this was requested. Bedrooms where comfy but bathrooms need updating.

First stay at this hotel and indeed any Accor hotel. Booked the hotel to tie in with a Friday evening meeting at Haydock Park. This hotel is in a perfect location within easy walking distance of both the racecourse snd Ashton in Makerfield town centre. Only one word needed to describe the hotel and service, Excellent. This would certainly be my hotel of choice when staying in the area, despite many others to choose from.

We booked the Mercure Haycock as we were attending an evening wedding recetion. Service was good and the rooms clean. There was an issue with the breakfast for three of our party. but it was dealt with in a professional manner, very quickly and without any fuss.

We periodically stay in St Helens to see Saints’ matches and usually the hotels are just adequate at best. This hotel was a refreshing change. It is in a very unprepossessing trading area , but on a large site of its own, so it has good parking and is pretty quiet. It is also right next to a regular bus service. I had booked a King Suite, a large set of rooms – hall, spacious bathroom with walk in shower and jacuzzi bath, bedroom and sitting room. We were welcomed with a card and chocolate truffles. The TV in the bathroom didn’t work and it would have been a good idea to tell us first when we checked in and we couldnt get the towel rail to work even with the hot tap running as instructed. However the bathroom fittings were excellent and very modern and the rom was very spacious. The whole suite looked like it had just been refurbished and it smelled very clean and new. We used the pool, steam room and fitness area. They were quite small but fortunately we had been warned to go early before the children’s swimming class! We didn’t use the restaurant as such, but we did have a snack before the match and some of the 24/7 food after (as service finished before our bus got back). The food available was limited but ok. There were a couple of drunks in the bar area so we decided to sit round the corner as no one seemed to be interested in telling them to leave. Breakfast was good, excellent porridge and a good selection of food cooked to order. So overall I think this hotel is much better than the impression given on Tripadvisor, we much enjoyed our short stay. I am sure we will be back next time we go to a Saints match.

I attended an awards ceremony there recently. The conference itself was poorly looked after by the staff and management team. The tables were serviced in a very unorganised way, with some people waiting up to 25 minutes to receive the same course. The staff seemed very unorganised and had no real leaders helping them get things right. The beef was like old leather. It was so hard! The bars were also poorly attended. Just one member of staff each of the two bars trying to serve 150 guests from the awards plus regular guests. Very poor planning from the management team and the kitchen should be disappointed in what they served.

Fantastic hotel, in lovely settings, close to the Racecourse which is just a 20 minute walk if you are feeling energetic, or short taxi journey. The staff were very polite and helpful. We arrived early, not expecting to be checked in for a couple of hours, but were given our room immediately, which was fabulous. The room was beautifully clean, with a massive bed, a comfy settee and chair, good sized wardrobe, coffee and tea making facilities, lovely clean bathroom, iron and ironing board and hairdryer, everything you need for your stay. The hotel is lovely and immaculate everywhere. Breakfast was great with a good selection. We did have to wait a while for food in the evening, and service was a bit slow at the bar, but they did have a wedding on so we could understand that. Apart from that, it was a brilliant stay and we would definitely use the hotel again in the future..

Met up with friends for a weekend and arrived on Friday midday. No problem or fuss about early arrival and straight to our nice confortable rooms. Although refurbished some parts of the bathroom were original but overall it was a well preseented and clean room with horse racing themed mural. The bar/public area was comforable and had a variety of settees, easy chairs and upright chairs. this was good for us as sometimes we wanted to strech out and relax or continue a far too serious game. The following evening there was a black-tie event and a mix-up with our table booking but the staff worked around that. Things go wrong but it is how they are rectified that proves the quality. Breakfast was nice every morning and Paige was attentiveas were the other staff. David was also very helpful and a good photographer! All the staff whether hotel or lesiure were friendly and helpful and made us feel like we were at home and at ease. I should also mention Megan on the front desk when we checked out. We certainly intend to meet up again at this hotel, the only thing I would check is if there is a big wedding or event on, these take place in the pavillion but do disturb the quietness.

Needed a hotel close to Warrington which was competitively priced (used Accor points + cash) clean and convenient. Hotel says refurbished but some parts of bathrooms slightly dated but clean enough. Stayed in a privilege room. Breakfast was also a good offering, would recommend and use again.

I have always loved this hotel with it being so close to relatives and have stayed numerous times and attended functions, weddings etc dating back over 15 years when it was then the Thistle. Decided to stay here Christmas day after visiting family, checked in mid afternoon and found that the room we had been allocated wasn't a privilege room as expected (the hotel rang me 2 days earlier and asked if I wanted to upgrade for £10 to which I agreed). Queried this with the lady on reception who quickly apologised and said that she would ensure we have the nespresso machine and complimentary drinks brought to the room, in fact she said she would deliver some drinks vouchers for me and my girlfriend and slip them under the door for the inconvenience. We returned later that day to find that nothing had been done, no drinks machine or vouchers so we decided to just leave it and would mention the next morning. Checked out and was told a manager would ring me that day to discuss, I had to ring the property later that evening and was then told by Michaela she was going to ring me, the £10 upgrade fee had been refunded and they were sorry. I was more bothered by the promises made to have things put in the room to then find nothing had been done. When questioned about this I was told again we are sorry and we have refunded your £10, oh and if you stay with us again we will upgrade you for free. I am still awaiting an email from Michaela as she promised, but there seems to be a trend here!! Having stayed in the Edinburgh Mercure two days previous to this I would rate that hotel as dated and in need of a refurb (planned I believe) however the service from the staff there was top notch. Definitely lessons to be learnt, more disappointingly it put a downer on a lovely Christmas Day, hotel aside.

There were two weddings scheduled for the day of our stay which adversely impacted on the quality of service available to non wedding guests. Poorly staffed, we were assisted by a delightful young lady who was unfortunately having her first day at work . Our assistant had little/ no support as all other staff were TOTALLY preoccupied with the arrival of the wedding guests. Our room backed onto a green garden which regrettably was housing a marquee with a wedding party.

Excellent comfortable Hotel. The rooms were spacious and well fitted out, the bed was super comfortable. Staff were very accommodating, friendly and helpful. The only criticism is that signposting from the M6 slip and roundabout is bad. It took us 30 mins trying to find the hotel and resorted to directions on my mobile.

My overall stay in the hotel was good and staff where friendly but I was shocked to be informed that even though I gave my bank details when booking online, no payment was taken and I had to pay at the hotel. On top of this I was charged £5 for parking in which I was not informed of during my booking. Quite disappointing.

Have not been to this hotel for some time but must say I was impressed with the refurbishment and the staff. The rooms are good and the beds are comfortable and modern, plenty of charging points. The food is good at breakfast and a good menu for dinner.

The hotel facilities are great and the rooms of a good clean standard. The issues I had were with the service. They couldnt spell or say my name right... Robson. Its not hard is it? They gave everyone else a discount as we were there for an event.. Not me.. They said "Its only £6.00 difference". Id booked two rooms so it was £12..yes not a great deal of money but it is what it is. I had to keep asking for a receipt.. They said they would email it. They did not. I had to chase their office to get it. The room itself was great. Service was crap at best.
