« Pleasant stay at charming hotel »

We settled on the Mecure Monte Pio as it sounded very interesting. We were not disappointed as it was a charming hotel, very clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. We ate at the restaurant and found it to be very good.

« Weekend away in Maitland »

It's a lovely hotel with heaps of character. A lovely old building which has been converted to a nice hotel. Sadly the pool couldn't be used due to cleaning. The staff are very friendly but the service is very slow.

« Nice experience »

The hotel was very quiet but, I suspect, not very busy which may have helped with that. The room as clean and serviced daily. The staff was accommodating and polite. There was no issue with arranging a late checkout which was appreciated. Overall a good experience

« Overrated »

Price was not good value for room or restaurant. Bathroom badly appointed. Shower door didn't close properly and water went over the floor. Basin too big so I couldn't sit on toilet properly. Buffet breakfast very disappointing compared to other Mecure hotels. I would stay somewhere cheaper next time.

« Never Again »

We have stayed at this property before and weren't that impressed however it was close to the event we were attending. We arrived on the Friday night and told the restaurant was closed due to a gas leak but would be open for breakfast don't get that. Last year we stayed at the exact same time and told the restaurant was closed due to a kitchen fire but would be open for breakfast. These people are just liars we are Accor plus gold members and didn't receive the standard room upgrade and when we enquired the receptionist said oh I can upgrade you if you like. Never again wouldn't recommend the place probably why the place was almost empty even with a large Ag field day nearby where reps come from all over the eastern states.

« Good hotel »

I arrived in the evening and the staff were very welcoming. Food in the restaurant was good and service great. The room was good, the only challenge with the rooms is that they are near a main road so you do get traffic noise, other than that the rooms are fine. The hotel is a gorgeous place, just needs a good vacuum.

« Overnight stay »

The property is excellent, staff are very helpful and friendly. Food good. We will continue to stay here when travelling. The only thing that is lacking is atmosphere but that is not the hotels fault, as it really is a travellers stopover, and does not get a lot of passing traffic I think.

« Monastic in Maitland »

Situated in a former monastery the Monte Pio is an interesting building with non-standard Mercure features though in other ways it is recognisable as a Mercure. Very comfortable large room and very good meal in the restaurant. Appears to be rather under-staffed and the general maintenance of the building and cleaning of our room were not to an acceptable standard. Overall, a good stay and we would book again

« Overnight stay »

We stayed as a filler night between our time at the Mecure Grand Vintage in Rothbury. A wonderful old world charm hotel with super friendly staff and a restaurant that served well prepared and enjoyable meals. Our room was lovely, the bed very comfortable. My wife and I would love to return to this area in the future and this hotel would be 1st on our radar. fantastic.

« Average »

I don't like to complain, but in order for this hotel to provide Accor standards they need to be told and to lift their game. Reception was not welcoming at all. Breakfast was probably poorer quality than Ibis. The rest of the hotel was excellent. The outside security lights were too bright which made for a lit up room all night.

« Room not seviced »

We stayed 3 nights, we were informed prior to our stay that the restaurant would not be open during our stay, except breakfast, which was good. Surprising but no room service either. We were extremely disappointed that our room was not serviced at all during our stay, even though requested, except 2 towels being replaced once! When I asked reception why the room was not serviced, the reason was it is public holidays and there would be no staff to service. Never come across this in all my stays at Accor properties across the world. We will stay again but watch out for those public holidays!

« Peace and quiet »

I have stayed at this hotel on several occasions. The rooms are large and comfortable. Even when this hotel is full it does not have the hassle and busses of a city hotel, for the business traveller who spends excessive days and nights in hotels, this is one that lets you relax a bit.

« Comfortable and great service »

Stayed here recently for Jazz in the Vines. Ordered room service which came promptly and was delicious. Rooms were comfortable and modern. Buffet breakfast was fine - the decor of the breakfast room and hallways could do with an update. Staff friendly and accommodating

« A quaint place to stay »

We stayed two nights at the Mercure Monte Pio. The building itself has a very long history as a convent, a school, an orphanage and as a hotel. The hotel was laid back and charming. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The quality of the rooms was excellent. Bed comfort was good as were the pillows. The bathroom was of a very high standard.. The restaurant was wholesome and well priced.

« July stay in Newcastle »

Nice old converted school to a nice hotel. Everything was available in the hotel and great for my staff members who stay and get jobs done and then retire for the evening at the hotel. Only one small comment was the hotel felt cold so could central heating was wished. Won't stop from more visits but will take something a little warmer next time.

« Great experience »

The King Suite was decorated beautifully, with a stunning view of the countryside as the sun came up. The bed was one of the best we have ever slept on. The renovations to the bathroom was stylish and classy. Our Dinner was stunning and very well presented although the menu wasn't very extensive we were extremely happy with meal.

« One for the history devotees »

My elderly mother and I stayed for two nights. The hotel is easy to get around and the lift was a big bonus. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food great. I loved the information on the history of the building and found some furniture to drool over.

« Historic charm »

A nice location and building had a lot of historic charm. Not enough staff on so service was a little average aswell as restaurant very disappointing, food was not fine dining quality which was a let down.

Friends getaway - 29/06/2016 TripAdvisor review
« Historical Setting Cold Service »

We loved the history of the place but found staff supercilious and cold - perhaps the thought of guests is better than the reality of our arrival. Breakfast with "matron" in charge at the desk was dreadful - the coffee awful and charged $16 for three cups on top of paying for breakfast was a final insult. The décor looks like they have taken all the leftover furniture from all the other Accor hotels and put it here! Discordant to visual serenity.

« Peaceful »

The hotel is nicely decorated and renovated and being just off the main road also very quiet. Rooms are small but qiite alright for a short stay. Restaurant was closed for the night when we were there so unable to comment but a nice littlebar for a wind down. Breakfast nothing to rave about.
