I booked this hotel because my usual choice the Premier Inn next to the racecourse was booked up. I looked at the photos and the rates were good so I booked. Then I read the reviews after I had booked and there some good and some not so good. Well let me assure you the good was right and the not good not sure how they arrived at their conclusions. Lovely hotel, staff just excellent and you were made to feel very welcome. Streets outside were tatty and lots of homeless people around which is sad to see but Wow this hotel was nice and breakfast superb. Inside very nice, rooms superb 10/10. No parking but local NCP around the corner.

« Clean pleasant room but hotel poorly run. »

Clean pleasant room, although shower piece simply missing, and inner window jammed open. Pleasant staff who tried to be helpful. Poor management systems. No service at bar. Could not produce a bill at the end of my stay. Breakfast rather congealed. Overall poor value for money., even though gave complimentary room upgrade.

« Very noisy and scruffy hotel »

We were allocated room 208 which has an air conditioning fan right outside the window and it was on constantly. The window wouldn’t close properly and the earplugs were useless so we got very little sleep. The room was dirty and tatty plus other areas of the hotel looked tired and scruffy. When we went for breakfast and wanted a drink of juice we were told the glasses were all in the dishwasher so would have to wait and as some items of breakfast ran out we had ro wait about 15 minutes for them to be replenished and as the air con was on it got cold very quickly. We wouldn’t stay again as it was expensive for the substandard room and facilities!

although the hotel was very clean and the rooms were nice. we were there at the weekend for a wedding and had orignally only booked for the saturday night which due to us being wedding guests was supposed to be at a preferencial rate. however we then decided to book the rooms for the friday night, this we did and found them to be for the 3 rooms a total of £60 cheaper, although this didn't include breakfast which was included in the price for the saturday night. Therefore in real terms there was not discount for the saturday night.

Looked so grand when entering but disappointed with room might aswell as stayed in a premier in and the view was building with scaffolding and noises clanging outside, we picked this hotel cuz it looked elegant but room was not to match the rest of the hotel

stayed here on a reunion weekend and my room was very small, i was alone so it was adequate for me, but way too small for 2 adults. My room was also next to the lift so very noisy, but again I was not in the room that much so did not affect me that much and didnt hear it during the night. My toilet would not flush so had to swap rooms, which reception offered to do immediately for a larger room, but upon returning to the room the maid had cleaned and fixed it, so good effort. It was not the best experience I have had in a hotel, but the city centre location was excellent and worked out great for our plans. The staff were extremely polite and helpful and I would still stay here again, but would expect some improvements in the general upkeep of the property.

Rooms very nice. Bed very comfortable and the location is great for the town center. The staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing was two much trouble. We like doncaster for its shopping which is excellent. Will go back soon.

« Great city centre location »

The room was a bit on the small side, but was acceptable for me on my own. The flush in my toilet did not work, and they did offer to move me to another bigger room immediately, however when I returned to my room the maid had fixed it and cleaned the toilet, so I opted to stay as I had unpacked everything, wished I had swapped as my room was next to the lift and this was all I could hear whilst in my room. I was not in the room much so didn't affect me that greatly. the lift says it takes 5 persons but it struggled to fit 3 of us in with luggage!! On the whole I would stay again but would expect some improvements. staff were very helpful and accommodating.

Hotel ok, but you should warn customers before they arrive regarding the loud music. Supplying ear plugs was a first for me, but clearly not enough. This hotel as best should make a very clear statement at the time of booking or focus on stage / hen weekends.

« Another Stay at Doncaster Mercury, another broken safe ! »

The suite we had was lovely, particularly the large bathroom with good amenities. Lovely rain shower and separate bathtub. Heated towel rail which was a nice touch. The bedroom was nice with a four poster bed. Unfortunately the radiator had a towel taped to it at the bottom, as if it had been leaking. You couldn't see it (the towel) when the net curtains closed (radiator below the window) - but still, come on ! Sort this out, its basic stuff.... The Air Con didn't work in the bedroom, I don't even know if there was any (no vents) but there was a digital control unit on the wall. It didn't work (no display) or respond at all. Luckily the ambient temperature was ok. Unfortunately the safe in the room did not work! We have stayed here 4 times, and twice, yes 50% of times, the safe hasn't worked. It is simply not good enough. I have had a failed safe more times in this hotel than every other hotel I have stayed in, combined! It really is the most basic of facilities one would expect. Its so poor that they have so many problems with in-room safes. The maintenance guy came up, but couldn't fix it. Also sadly the cocktail bar has closed down which is attached to the hotel. We have always enjoyed a nice cocktail there in the evening when staying here, so this was disappointing. Staff all friendly but didn’t ask how our stay was on check out, basic stuff !

Hotel was lovely, staff were friendly, room was lovely apart from the noise even the earplugs didn't help, toilet was faulty hard to flush then water constantly ran. Breakfast on the Saturday was buffet offered one cup of coffee and then staff disappeared, Monday was table service again one cup of coffee, but over all nice hotel.

The hotel itself is very nice, location is central and plenty of car parking spaces to be found nearby. Upon check-in we were not offered the complimentary drinks that the AccorHotels membership entitled us to and not informed that the booking also included breakfast. Upon checking the reservation and checking with reception later that evening about the breakfast we were told it did have breakfast, only to be told the following morning that we didn't....and then it was found again.. A little frustrating to say the least...........

« A hotel with two personalities »

Our initial room was one of the two junior suites. It would have been helpful if on checking-in we had been asked how we felt about loud music into the early hours of the morning! Despite secondary glazing and a pair of supplied ear-plugs the competing disco music, karaoke and live music ensured that there was no likelihood of any sleep. Second room in the quiet half of the hotel was in fact much nicer than the more expensive junior suite and also benefited greatly from no loud music.
