« Warm Welcome, Cold Room »

Ibis Styles Reading Centre was one of our oddest and coldest Ibis experiences lately. Hearty welcome upon arrival. We were upgraded into a family room, which turned up to be the remotest room in the hotel, on the third floor without lifts, which meant we had to climb at least 55 steps to get into room in case we took the right turns in the labyrinth of corridors. If we went the wrong way it could be 70 steps. Upgrading turned into downgrading. Reception should have asked if we wanted to do this exercise several times a day. Luckily we had small bags otherwise it would not have been possible to take them up in the steep and winding staircase. The hotel is not recommended to elderly people like us. The downgrading was doubled when we found there was no heating in the room and it was about 4 degrees outdoors. When we mentioned this to the reception (going down and climbing up of course) they promised to take care of the problem but an hour later when nothing happened we asked for another room with heating. The receptionist called the manager instead. The manager came and did not seem to be happy about our complaint. When we insisted he decided to call somebody who finally fixed the heating (3 hours after our arrival). A very nice guy, who tried to explain to us what the problem with the boiler was – unfortunately we had to hurry somewhere and could not fully enjoy the story. Later the room was pleasant and warm though the heating was turned off in the middle of the night and turned on again a few hours later – we were happy to have it like that. Breakfast is ok, not too many choices, some of the food ran short but we did not really mind. The hotel is centrally located, very close to the shopping street and to the riverside that is packed with excellent restaurants and not too far from the station either.

« Dismal »

It's a very tatty and old building that really isn't fit to be a hotel. I was on the 3rd floor with no lift. The toilet took 17 minutes (I timed it) to refill thus filling the room with a drip-drip noise for that period. The shower head was 4ft 6in above the tub thus only high enough for a small child to wash their hair. I was in the attic room (301) and I was woken up by pidgeons cooing on outside window sill. Hardly any of the TV channels worked properly - poor signal so lots of freezing/pixelation.. All in all - dreadful

« Comfortable room and adequate continental breakfast »

Difficulty in finding hotel from station. Web site would be improved by inclusion of good walking route map. Once found every thing was just fine.

« not up to standards »

The room was very cold. the shower was out of date. the road noise vibrated the room and woke me up. the paint on the wall was chipping, the breakfast was ok but basic. The wifi was weak. the gentleman at the reception was nice and changed my room once. I was woken up at midnight by someone working/renovating (or robbing) the room in front of me. the noise was as if he was in my room

« Good location »

Location was very good. Room was good. Temperature too hot in room. TV reception is poor. Shower regulator is poor and temperature varies without making changes. Room has cooking odours from an Indian restaurant attached to the hotel. As I had extended the stay by one night and this had been processed at the original check in, and my stay in the same room extended on my key card, I was disappointed to receive a call on Sunday asking why I hadn’t checked out. The tone of the person was terse and unbelieving until she confirmed this once checking the system. No genuine apology offered.

I was extremely pleased with both the cleanliness and service. My room was a good size and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast being continental provided all the fruit and cereals one would wish for together with rolls, bread, croissants etc. The hotel is in the middle of town, amongst shops, cafes etc. I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again.

The orientation in the hotel should be improved. No lift (or I have not found it) The floor does make noice everytime you make step.

« Disappointing »

The rooms were freezing despite the radiator being on full. The room need a desperate update, the carpet & walls were all stained. The tv kept losing signal to the point where we were no longer able to watch it.

« A very average quality of stay, low price but lots of minor things that were not great »

Small and somewhat messily decorated room. For one example, no idea what the strip hanging down fron one wall was mean tto have on the end of it, but it was not possible to use the air conditioner and the heating fdi not come on till late afternoon and, since the cleaner had left the window open on a later November morning, it was very cold. Another was an un softened metal door stopper placed exactly where you woudl walk right into it in bare feet at the entrance/exit to the bathroom.

« OK for a bed for the night. »

Cheap and cheerful. Staff were very friendly Rooms very basic. I was staying on business but probably wouldnt again because there was no iron in the room, no room service (although there was a subway across the road), Wifi was a poor performance. Hotel lobby and main areas are nice. Shame about a continental only breakfast although my waistline thanks you. however, a better selection of fruit (fruit salad) rather than just orange and grapefruit segmenst would have been good.

« Lovely hotel. »

Great hotel. Stayed one night. Only downside is a very small car park, was lucky to get a space. Bed was a bit hard. Decor was very stylish. Would stay again. Very close to al the shops, clubs, restaurants, bars.

Room 223 The shower could not be used as the water was almost scalding. The trickle of cold water barely made any difference to the water temperatur. It is something that needs to be adressed urgently.

« Great location, convenient, comfortable »

- good location - nice to have breakfast included - nice size room - very clean - all general facilities provided i.e. kettle, blow dryer, heater - maybe an iron and ironing board would have been useful

Overall disappointing book a queen room which is only in reality a double bed , Apparently that’s what they are called in America. I’m in the uk . Couldn’t connect to the WiFi, room could have been cleaner, Bath was a mission to get in as was so high and every time I went to reception it was empty . Breakfast and location were the only positives I had.

« OK but a bit noisy. »

The reception area and restaurant were nice with quite a modern feel. The rest of the hotel was a bit dated. Room was OK. Bed was comfortable and tv worked OK. There was tea and coffee facilities but no bottled water. The water coming out if the tap in the bathroom had a slightly brown haze to it! Went down to get water and was charged over £3! Bathroom wasn't as clean as it could be. Room was very noisy, so didn't get much sleep. Loud music from outside somewhere, then doors slamming, then when the heating kicked in at 5.30am, clicking and Banging noises from pipes. Continental breakfast was nice.
