Disappointing

Customer review rating 3.4/5

Chris Business - 12/07/2019 AccorHotels certified review

Disappointing: no soap in the bathroom which I didn’t notice until I was in the shower. No aircon (but two fans in the closet which I didnt see until the next day) on a hot night. The windows did open but the alley they opened onto was the back of the restaurant so constant noise of plates clanking to all hours of the night.

Dirty hot room no air-con

Anonymous Business - 12/07/2019 AccorHotels certified review

My room was dirty, not in terms of the carpets or linen but just generally grubby, the walls were discoloured and clearly hadn't been wiped down. The air-con unit in the room didn't work on arrival and once I had managed to get it in the right mode it didn't actually do much to deal with the oppressive heat.

Staff polite and friendly, check in process straight forward, room was clean and breakfast quality was fine. Only downside was the pillow, which was so uncomfortable I did not sleep.

No Lift, stairs are risky, shower issue

Overpriced and disappointing

Baking hot room, mould on ceiling in bathroom, broken shower fitting and issue with taps, bed too big for room, uninterested staff when returning key. Will be leaving tripadvisor feedback shortly but will wait for a response before doing so.

Okay

Beds where comfortable, the air con wasn’t working which was a disappointing also the WiFi wasn’t working to so that wasn’t good but everything else was okay.

Room for improvement

The room was basic. There were no bedside lights. But the bed was very comfortable. Unfortunately there was a loud humming noise outside the window and the room was incredibly hot. Even with the window open. Although this made the humming noise worse of course.

Good value, room for improvement

- Reception staff was very friendly and helpful and appeared to be working hard to help guests. - Our aircon didn't work and the room was boiling, so had a poor sleep on both nights. - Our curtains didn't close properly, so there was a lot of light in the room. - Our friends that were also staying said that their shower didn't work. - Our car was parked in the hotel car park and had it's number plate ripped off. - Breakfast was OK, not great, but good value to be included in the price.

Not Happy

I was there for 3 nights. The weather was hot. The room I got did not had an AC. I couldn't leave the window open due to the traffic noise. I requested a room with AC and I was told there aren't any rooms with AC. I was given a fan which didn't really help. Next day I got a room with AC. However, the AC would stop working after 10 to 15 minutes. I had to reset the AC several times but that didn't work. Moreover the AC didn't cool the room, the AC was useless. I ended up using 2 fans.

Room was far to hot, a known problem, that apparently guests have to put up with..!!

Most surprising of all, when feeding back to reception ‘ this is a known problem across a number of room’ Not an apology just left feeling accept this or find an alternative. As a regular traveler to Reading that it what am going to do..!!!

Value for money budget hotel

The hotel is in a great situation in the town centre with a small but accessible car park. The staff are friendly and helpful they provide a good breakfast (hot at an extra cost). I have stayed in newer hotels but because of the above points I was happy to overlook the tiredness of the rooms ( its a hard business) but they provide an excellent service so don't expect the Ritz and you will be happy.

A bit disappointing this time

Staff were as pleasant as usual, but.... Second floor, with no lift No air conditioning Shower dripped all night (couldn’t turn it off) Then I couldn’t turn it on in the morning. Room clean, nice breakfast

Cheap, grimy, small, smelly, noisy and rundown

Scott Business - 01/07/2019 AccorHotels certified review

We stayed 8 nights & would have changed hotels after the 1st night except it was a business trip booked & paid for by the company. Staff was friendly but didn’t do much. We had a problem with the a/c unit making awful noises, made staff aware after our first night. Our bad we accidentally left the sign on the door so they didn’t do anything that day. Two more days pass and nothing even though we talked to them the evening after leaving the sign on the door. Talked to them again and they said they would send someone in to look at it and as far as we could tell nothing was ever done as it continued to make this noise kind of like a tuba (musical instrument) sound. It was not always consistent most of the time the sounds would be 4-9 seconds long and it would occur at random intervals sometimes as close together as 10 seconds and other time could be 20 minutes in between. The floor of the hallway was deteriorating and you could feel the unevenness as you walked and it would groan and creak a lot. The bathroom in the room itself was pretty gross. There was a lot of black mildew/mold in the shower, there were hairs in the shower when we checked in, and the door frame was really grimy.

The hotel is fine. It can get quite hot in the summer, and is situated over an Indian Restaurant. There is no lift, and due to the fact the hotel is an old building, the room layout can be quite confusing. The Indian Restaurant can create a bit of a spicy aroma, but the quality of food in the restaurant is first class.

Okay

Okay, food allowance should be more... Other ibis styles offer more food allowance, no lift, if there was I wasn't informed about and I had been carrying heavy bags all day. Room was okay, some lights didn't work but as I only slept in there I didn't really mind, the water pressure.... Well that was like a dribble, I could of come downstairs 3 times or more before a bath had run it was that poor

Ok, but not great

I was staying in room 301. There was no air-con in the room which was initially very stuffy, but I did find a fan which helped. The shower was far too low - I'm only 5'2" and I had to bend down to wash my face - there was no way I could comfortably wash my hair.
