My wife and I are new parents and our five week old daughter has finally been enough reason for both our parents to make the grueling trip from Michigan. That is how we discovered the hotel, making an overnight break from travel for them before the continue to head to our small town outside of Shanghai. We work in an IB school in the country side of the Anhui province, a place called Xuning, near Tunxi. All our flights pass through the Hongqiao Airport in Shanghai. The Sofitel is minutes away by taxi and it is simply a world class hotel. The staff are welcoming, many with English, but much more than that convenience to communicate is the kindness they have demonstrated to my family. My wife's family stayed with them twice, my parents have stayed with them twice and my wife and I have stayed with them twice. Everyone agrees that it's the much needed rest one hopes for when staying over night. The building is beautiful and the rooms are modern with an intentional luxury that makes you feel like you have finally given yourself the treat you deserve for working all the time. It has become the routine for my family whenever we travel. Do yourself a favor and check it out. Wayne at the front desk is man to know, by the way. Safe travels.

This hotel already has a group of good staffs with friendly and warming personality. However, they need a better training program to provide them with more knowledge and more techniques. The hotel itself also need a few improvements. When a hotel is at a certain level/grade, the details is what make the differences. Ex: 1) I have booked and paid for 2 rooms. 1 room was upgraded to junior suite and the other room (requesting 2 beds) was not. The reason was that they don't have any junior suite available in 2 beds. Junior or normal suite is such a big room that it can't have 2 beds is ridiculous. Not every guest travel together will be a couple. It can be father and son, mother and son, siblings, or friends. Not everyone sharing the same room will want to sleep on the same bed together. It is just weird not to have 2 beds available for bigger room. 2) I have a package delivered prior to my arrival. It is so sweet for all the staffs to worry about whether I have received it yet. But shouldn't someone have updated the system so the rest of the staffs will know that I already got the package. So they don't have to keep asking me and I don't have to keep answering them. The gesture is very sweet and I adore them for caring. However, too much sweetness can become a bitter sweet. 3) Breakfast staffs were very attentive. But, they need to be train a bit more so the guests won't feel like being watch over all the times. Subtlety is the key. Again gesture is good, but more training needed. 4) I was still walking around the hotel and up and down the elevator after 11pm. I shared an elevator ride with one of the staff. I mentioned that it is quite hot around the hallway and elevator after the air condition is turn off in that part. He just out right saying it is not hot. How can he said that while I am sweating a little? He might not feel hot, but he is not me. How can he just dismiss what I am feeling? That's not how to answer a guest, is it? 5) There are some welcome snacks in the room when we got in. But they have any kind of covers. Guests may not be eating the welcome snacks right away so having some kind of covers, such as glass covers or even some plastic wraps is better than none. It is more sanitize. 6) When I went to the bar for the welcome drink, they showed me a list. When I asked is that it, they said no and recited a few more drinks. If I didn't ask, I won't know. So why don't the bar just list all the available items for the welcome drinks. So every guest will know the same. 7) The towel rack in front of the sink is not the best place for it to be. Whenever a guest lean into the sink, they are brushing against the clean towel. That is not very sanitize. 8) All staffs should have a better knowledge about their surroundings. I asked one of the staffs what is in the mall next door. He said that mostly restaurants and eateries. Is there a supermarket? Yes. Unfortunately, when we went to the mall, there is no supermarket (our main reason to go). 8) Better signage is needed in B1 level. 9) I like to have some kleenex in the room so I took the tissue box from the sink area to place on the writing desk and left the room. I returned to the room after the turn down service. The housekeeper did not add another box of kleenex back at the sink. I knew that they did go into the bathroom and service the sink area because my square towel was touched but not changed. This is the first time this happen in any hotel that I have ever stayed in. It is so stingy of you. 10) There is no trash can available at the sink area. That is unusual and inconvenient. 11) The water pressure is too low at the shower. It took much more time to wash off the shampoo and soap. 12) This hotel is still so new. But yet, the water guard on the shower door is already broken or half torn off and be seen by the guest. There are a few more things, but that's all I can remember at the moment. Please don't be mistaken, I do enjoyed my stay at your hotel. Your staffs are so lovely. But, I am observant and meticulous.

Perfect place to stay after a busy month in China. Beautifully appointed rooms as stayed two different nights. Staff were wonderful. Breakfast was varied and delicious. Thai massage was exactly what was needed. Very professional and very relaxing. Thankyou Sofitel for a wonderful stay.

I forgot to bring a phone charger. however, your hotel said all out. we total have 3 rooms at your hotel. we forgot to request to stay in same floor, end up we were at 3 different floors. we are not sure is your hotel that full.

First time staying at the Sofitel and it definitely meet international standards. Both the quality of the room and hotel amenities along with the amazing breakfast buffet were topped off with great service. The location is very handy for both Hongqiao train station and the exhibition centre so i will definitely be staying again.

The property surely doesn't fail to impress. Love the colors and the French touch. Staff generally very helpful and attentive. Wish more attention could be paid to the details though. Take the swimming pool for example. There is no swimsuit dryer or dryer of any kind, which falls below 5-star standard. No extra towel in the change /shower area except for the one in the locker or those by the pool. The small cases for toiletries on the dressing table actually bear the name of another hotel -- don't get me wrong, I am all for resource conservation and it is absolutely OK to use these brand new cases even though they were originally ordered for another hotel, but for a holistic brand experience, shouldn't at least some efforts be made to cover the names? I would love to return to the hotel and see these details improved.

Within a 20 minute walk from Hongqiao rail station and a short taxi ride from the airport. Easy access to major roads out at of Shanghai to Hangzhou etc, and to Pudong airport. My room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Club lounge had a good range of food and drink in the evening, but was closed for breakfast which was disappointing. Check in took a while as they seemed unaware of my loyalty status and would not give me the benefits I was due. But was sorted out eventually.

Room cleanliness very good! House Keeping staff Mdm Nina always serve with a smile that make you feel very welcome. I left my facial cleansing foam when I checked out, and was able to retrieve two days later when I come back to stay with the hotel again. But breakfast experience still no good, when I requested for fresh Orange juice for my breakfast, first few days was provided when I asked, but at last day I was told again the supply of orange was on the way, hence no orange juice available, sadly! Club Lounge experience was OK, but selection of food supply at happy hour really need improvement, it was just no matching with the 5 stars hotel image! Other than that, front desk service staffs had improved with their service approach, serve with a smile! one or two very bad observation were that fruits were not freshly cut, as you can saw the edging of fruits turn color, some fruits even had other smile (cutting board not properly clean!) Worse was one of the morning when I poured a glass of soya bean milk, but because it was transmuted/tainted, soya bean milk became dense. So I approached chef/cook to point out to him, but was told just poured hours ago, so something was not right!

The club room with lounge access was worthwhile, the staff were very helpful, even staff members with little English made every effort to help, remember preferences and their service was excellent. The leisure facilities, while very nice, were not very user friendly- the ladies steam room and sauna were always off and had to be switched on then a significant wait until a useable temperature was achieved- so I was never able to use these facilities. The pool was very cold, not warm enough to swim in, but after speaking to the guest experience supervisor, this was improved to an acceptable level. However the swimming cap regulation is so ridgidly enforced, even if your head is not entering the water that it is not a relaxing experience. The guest experience supervisor ( sorry if this is not the correct title) was also excellent. Breakfast was generally very good- an excellent range of selections , although the a la carte lunch seems expensive for the area. Generally happy with the room facilities, the beds were very comfortable. However the TV did not work on several channels and while someone came to repair it, we were never able to get all the channels and some had a lot of interference. Overall we were very happy with our stay and would recommend the hotel to others.
