Wonderful staff and a super hotel

Customer review rating 4.4/5

C W. Families - 11/09/2019 AccorHotels review

As a wheelchair user, finding a truly “accessible” hotel experience in smaller towns in England can be hit and miss. But Mercure have got this right, and what’s more, the staff are fully aware of needs and requirements, and could not have done more to help make our stay comfortable, welcoming and relaxing. The booking process was made easier by Ivy, and the rest of the staff were all super both with anticipating and meeting our needs. The only slight issue was a shower that didn’t drain - meaning that we were unable to shower during the stay. However we spoke to the manager who promised to get maintenance to look into the matter. We would not hesitate to rebook into the same room and look forward to staying at the Mercure Bridgwater again.

Lovely hotel, disappointing restaurant

Paul B. Couples - 09/09/2019 AccorHotels review

Our check in was smooth, the young lady receptionist was bubbly and helpful. Our room with a view was very comfortable, although the view was... Interesting! We decided to eat in the restaurant, as we had had a hectic week and slow drive from Cornwall. Just went for mains, nice beers, ordered a madras curry, as its my favourite. Unfortunately the advertised madras was not a madras, more a korma, the buttered pilau rice was dry bsamati, and no chutney, very very disappointed. I have been cooking Indian food for over 40 years, and my anticipation was shattered. We didn't complain at the time, as the waitresses were busy, and I was hungry, but huge disappointment. My wife's meal was barely acceptable, not the standard I would expect for the price charged

Stylish,clean with pleasant staff

The hotel and room was very modern, clean and stylish. The staff were always very helpful and polite. The gym was perfect as other hotel gyms are normally rubbish. The only disappointing thing was upon arrival i found out the parking wasnt free (15£ per night or 4£ for another car park across the road) . A staff member did allow me to park there for free on the 1st night as it was late on a sunday. I easily found a space literally outside the hotel which i used for the rest of my stay and it was free between 530 pm - 9am. I was very comfortable and relaxed during my stay and the staff were excellent!

Very satisfied with the room and the level of professionalism from the staff and the fact that the rooms were cleaned to such a high standard. The only fault I had was that the parking, if you wanted to park at the hotel it cost £15 which is extortionate and then £4 a night to park in a pay and display across the road.

Very good

The room was comfortable and the hotel being new was well-appointed, if a little clinical. We had a satisfactory meal in the Marco Pierre White Restaraunt, but there was a special offer which we were not offered and only realised after we had eaten.

Adequate

Pippa N. Families - 05/09/2019 AccorHotels review

There was no one at reception to greet us, we had t wait for five minutes before we were greeted and able to book in. The room was excellent and clean, very comfortable room. The air con was left on extremely cold so it took a while to get up to a comfortable temperature. We only had one night so difficult to say. The hotel appeared clean and tidy, we were unable to get food as we arrived at 8.50pm so we had to go out of the hotel for food. In the morning we went to pay to leave and I asked if I could leave my car in the bay while I went to the shop, I was told that I had already booked out (it was 8am) so I was not able to. There was already someone else name i the parking bay I was in, I thought my £15 fee was for the night until 12 noon the following day, however I was told it was until I checked out and when I paid it meant I had checked out. It was a shame as the hotel did appear to be nice and I chose it so we could try the restaurant and the on sight parking. Although this was a trip for leisure I am regularly seeking hotels for work, however given the early close for dinner and parking situation it has left me feeling that it will not be suitable for work purposes.

A extremly pleasent and secure overnight stay

Lee P. Friends - 02/09/2019 AccorHotels review

Our experience staying with a mercure hotel for the first time ever was amazing to start with the checking in was ok the staff were helpful and our room was lovely clean and tidy. The morning after our stay we went down for breakfast where we had to seat ourselves. Not one member of staff came and laid our table so we got our breakfast we had to ask staff for cutlery and coffee and tea which was done. We had our breakfast and nearly finished it before asking another member of staff for cups for our coffee and tea which the first waitress never brought out after saying she would get them. We then had to ask a member of staff for bread to toast as there wasn’t any he apologised and said he would get it which he never did whilst all this is going on 2 other members of staff were standing around chatting nearly every table had used plates, cups and cutlery on them. The staff had no interest in clearing tables or replenishing the continental selection of breakfast. This breakfast service ruined our stay and did not full fill our breakfast needs. We have stayed in many different hotels across the country and never had an experience like the one we had with yourselves. It was then made worse when we were checking out we handed the keys back and were told thank you have a nice day. In my experience you would ask if you had a nice stay and was everything ok for you but no we didn’t even get a chance to complain and raise the issues we had.

Dear Mr & Mrs p., Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Mercure Bridgwater Hotel. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. We strive to provide a superior service experience for every customer; therefore your feedback is very important to us. Regarding breakfast I'm afraid to say we had some back of house issues on the Sunday that unfortunately greatly impacted our ability to serve, clear and re-lay the restaurant during a busy breakfast. I'm sorry that these issues effected your visit, we always strive to minimise the effect any equipment and staff issues have on our guests but unfortunately on this occasion we were unable to overcome the challenges as we would have liked. Notwithstanding this I was a little concerned you felt the staff were chatting during the issues as this is not something the other feedback has mentioned so please rest assured that I will be discussing your feedback with the teams concerned to ensure such lapses do not happen in the future. We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Sincerely, Damian Kaye General Manager

Anne Families - 02/09/2019 AccorHotels review

Rooms were comfortable and as expected of a Mercure brand. Not sure if it is a design flaw or poor housekeeping but the shower area would flood every time someone had a shower. The drain could not cope with the amount of water and so the water would overflow into the other parts of the bathroom making the rest of the bathroom wet. We stayed for 2 nights. On the 2nd day of our stay, housekeeping made up the bed and took away 3 towels but only left us with 2 towels (when there are 3 people in the room... it was clear from the extra bed being made up). In addition to this, they also took away all the half-used shower and shampoo bottles including one of ours! It was annoying for our thing to be removed but more annoying that the half-used toiletries were removed when we would have used it till it was finished to reduce wastage. The sockets came off the wall when we were unplugging our plugs; some health and safety concerns there so we just avoided those sockets. Breakfast on Sunday was chaotic. No one seated us and there were no clean tables. We had to move dirty dishes and cutlery away to make space so that we could seat and have breakfast. Staff were clearly overwhelmed and just not able to cope. We had to clean the table, hunt for clean cutlery and make repeated request for tea and coffee. Other than that, the food itself was lovely.

Dear Ms L., Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Mercure Bridgwater Hotel. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. We strive to provide a superior service experience for every customer; therefore your feedback is very important to us. Please rest assured that I will be discussing your feedback with the teams concerned to ensure such lapses do not happen in the future. Regarding breakfast I hope your second breakfast was more in keeping with both your and our expectations. We had some back of house issues on the Sunday that unfortunately greatly impacted our ability to serve, clear and re-lay the restaurant during a busy breakfast. I'm sorry that these issues effected your visit, we always strive to minimise the effect any equipment and staff issues have on our guests but unfortunately on this occasion we were unable to overcome the challenges as we would have liked. I was particularly concerned that you found some loose sockets and have already ask Maintenance to remove the room from sales and ensure it is thoroughly checked, this is certainly not something we have come across before so hopefully it is an isolated incident. We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Sincerely, Damian Kaye General Manager

Stayed for a birthday treat for my mum which I did mention on a few occasions however nothing special offered such as small complementary treats which other hotels do. The service was very poor on each visit to the restaurant (3 times). Hotel itself was nice but felt unorganised and lacked atmosphere which is a shame. Afternoon tea and breakfast was great. Evening meal satisfactory ( sirloin steak tasteless)

Dear Ms E., Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Mercure Bridgwater Hotel. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. I am surprised the staff didn't check to see if we already knew about the birthday as we do put platters and cards etc in the room so I'm sorry that on this occasion we missed the opportunity for these extras I can only assume that no one checked we had already actioned them and just presumed the platter etc had already been organised. I'm truly sorry that this slipped through and will discuss with the team how we can ensure this doesn't happen in the future. We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Sincerely, Damian Damian Kaye General Manager

Hotel was Ok but problem with the lifts which resulted in waiting nearly 5 minutes for a lift that never came - having mentioned it to reception was told they new about it but had actually done nothing to put notices on the lift doors to tell guests

Would happily return for another visit

Booked a standard room; although on the small side it was quiet/comfortable/clean and the bathroom/wardrobe/accessories also clean. Food and service in the restaurant and bar also good. Only problem was the lack of onsite parking but we were guided to a nearby pay and display (luckily free because of weekend/bank holiday)!

Mrs C. M. Couples - 26/08/2019 AccorHotels review

Because we booked before and loved it , this time I was extremely disappointed, I had just finished work , travelled over an hour and half , got to the hotel around 6pm or just after , given my key from reception, and to my horror the room wasnt even cleaned , went down to complain after given option of breakfast and paid for everything ,the reception couldn't understand as come up on system clean , no compensation, just sorry a colleague of ours stayed in room and should have been done was moved to another room ,not happy . After a long day working and then travelling. Highly disappointed.

Dear Ms M., Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Mercure Bridgwater Hotel. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; allow me to express my sincerest apologies. I am truly sorry that the room you were checked into wasn't clean I have asked front desk and housekeeping to investigate how this happened to ensure we tighten our procedures to prevent it happening again. I'm sorry that Sunday breakfast we not to our normal standard, it was somewhat of a perfect storm with the dishwasher and coffee machine both breaking down which combined with a staff member effectively walking out as they couldn't cope with the pressure this caused did mean that what should have been a busy but manageable breakfast fell below what we strive to provide. Although we endeavour to minimise the impact issue such as these have to our guests unfortunately on this occasion we were unable to prevent it impacting our service. I would like to reiterate our commitment to high quality standards, and hopefully having stayed previously you'll agree that on the whole we provide this. Once again thank you for your feedback and I am sorry that these issues detracted from your stay, I only hope that they did not take away from the main purpose of your visit to Bridgwater. Sincerely, Damian Damian Kaye General Manager
