The reviews on Tripadvisor suggested that as the hotel was new, there were still snagging items outstanding and that the staff needed more training, however this was not my experience. My room was very comfortable and quiet and furnished to a very high standard. The bathroom was very nice with an excellent shower. The staff were very polite and attentive.

« Generally good but some teething problems and some design issues »

Room was brand new, staff were very helpful and friendly. Teething problems - System did not tie into booking system so had to spend some time confirming breakfast was included; Menu on TV screen had some broken links and missing info; no phone in room. Design problems - Road noise and significant vibration of some fixtures in room when HGVs went past; Flashing light from smoke alarm reflected off picture and was annoying.

I was very pleased to read your comments on the team who will be glad to hear their efforts have are not going un-noticed. I was slightly concerned to hear of the issues with the TV as it sounds like the system may have "lost" some of links - please rest assured I'll get the supplier to check everything is corrected asap. Regarding the road noise, this is the first time this has been mentioned and I must admit I didn't hear any when I stayed a few weeks ago on that corridor but is certainly something I will monitor. This is obviously not an east fix for me, however if you stay again please ask for a room overlooking the Courtyard or Eastover both of which are on the opposite side of the hotel which will minimise any disturbance you may experience. The room was good and well equipped however, I wasn't told until I parked at the hotel that i would be charged £15 to park. Had i been aware of this prior to booking the hotel I simply would not have booked it. This marred my stay and has put me off of ever staying at a Mercure hotel again - no one likes the feeling of being ripped off!

Dear DAVID, We very much appreciate your comments regarding your stay at the Mercure Bridgwater Hotel. I'm sorry if you felt "ripped off" with the cost of the on-site parking. On the assumption you mentioned this to the receptionist when you arrived I would like to apologise if they did not offer you the alternative of the off-site parking (which is £4 per 24 hours and is just over the road from the hotel). As we only have a limited number of spaces we have to charge a premium so that those parking off-site do not feel that have been treated unfairly if they have paid the same rate. Please rest assured I will ask the Reception Manager to ensure the team are offering alternatives to those who don't wish to pay for the on-site parking. Upon arrival I was greeted and checked in with ease. The room was a great size, modern and comfortable with a lovely design. The only downside to our trip was our experience in the restaurant. We had booked a table with the reception team when checking in. We arrived for our table and were seated at the bar where we had a drink. During our meal however, the young waiter was very eager to take our order, bombarding us with questions. Generally bumbly. I had not even had the chance to try any of our steak (which was beautiful) by the time he was checking back on us. Toward the end of the meal, the waiter was asking my partner lots of questions about our stay whilst I was still finishing my meal, standing and chatting. He asked about the service and the food etc, laughing to us “oh go on it must be a 10 for sure!” I cannot fault the food and highly recommend the chateaubriand. Upon enquiring about dessert, we were told by our waiter that he would just need to go and check with the kitchen as they had just shut. He returned with 3 options from the 7/8 option menu. In my experience, if you sit down for a meal, you are offered the full dessert menu regardless. It wasn’t late and there were still other diners in the restaurant. This put a damper on the trip unfortunately, as we had been excited to try the new Marco Pierre White Menu that we had heard such good things about. Breakfast the next day was a lot more relaxed, although there was no real butter, only spread. Improvement with the hospitality in the restaurant is required.

Was good, nice new hotel, good keen staff. Everyone seemed a little nervous as I understand the hotel was only open for 3 weeks. However, everyone wanted to help which is great.

« Very nice hotel which I have already booked for my next stay in the area. »

Staff still learning on the job but willing to help wherever they can. Few fixtures and fittings aren’t finished as well as they maybe could be in the rooms ( new build so probably just teething problems). Overall I enjoyed my stay and would happily recommend it to anybody staying in the area.

The room and dinner i had was fantastic. Breakfast was a little bit of a let down as expected a higher standard. Egg was slightly under and bacon could of been a bit better, plus everything was just chucked on top of each other on a small plate. Put it this way when the plate was put on the table I could see two sausages, two hash brown and a pond of beans that everything else was under.

Only just opened so comments relate to this. Staff seemed a little nervous and reading out 'customer service instructions' too often, it came over a little too forceful. Some learning experience required perhaps. Layout of ground floor reception a little confusing, but could get used to it I suppose. Room switch for lights had faults and a desk lamp was still unconnnected, attention to detail before letting the first guests in would have been good. Room was large and quite well laid out, decor modern especially the shower area with the picture on the wall. Well situated hotel for town centre, but car park seemed far too small for the size of the hotel. I got a space but hotel was quiet.

« Superb! »

We stayed at this hotel during a business trip and it had only been open a week. The service was superb and the staff very polite, friendly and efficient. The Marco Pierre White restaurant did not disappoint! The food was first class and again the staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable and we thoroughly enjoyed chatting to them during the evening in the bar and restaurant. Would highly recommend for anyone staying in this area and also for locals wanting a restaurant for a special occasion.

The rooms were clean of course they are all new and Comfortable beds. The food at the restaurant was good, excellent steak worth the money. All staff were friendly and happy to help.
