Since the very first moment the staff was very friendly and kind. The room was very comfortable, spacious and with great amenities. The surprise of my stay was the restaurant, we ended up going there by chance as we did not see much info about it in the room, but the price, taste and the service was great. Would definitely book again if I come next year.

My first stay in Mercure, after repeated regular stays in Ibis, Novotel and other ASccor hotels throughout the years. Chose Mercure Sloterdijk due to convenient public transport relations to downtown and airport, and due to internet ratings. Trusted that a room of the highest specification (Privilege) in a four star hotel of Accor Group would suffice and come up in standard to Novotel e.g. or comparable Accor hotels. Check in took a long time. I had paid in advance and the print-out of my receipt showed a locally due balance (local tax) of 8.81 which I wanted to pay right upon check in. However, the receptionist asked for 13.92, which for principal considerations I would not accept. I showed my receipt. Staff could not make sense of it, did not even apologize, but simply insisted I paid the higher amount. I asked her to clarify matters till time of my departure, and she made a copy of my receipt. I was also informed that there was no internet in the whole house for the time being and Mercure hotel computers would also be all down. I got to my room 704, a very narrow and dark room, and was immediately shocked by the strong and stale smell of ashtray/cigar. I reported to the reception. I had to go down again and pick up new keys for 605 now. Though that room did not smell of ashtray, I regretably found it in a rather poor state of housekeeping. Overall impression: sticky and filthy. Poverty Certificate for a brandnew hotel. Problem is, what I know from my own professionel experience, the outsourcing of housekeeping. If cheaper and cheaper is wanted and the screw on housekeeping cost is tightened and tightened, the whole place will be rundown in no time. Housekeepers who do not even speak a single word of English or Dutch/French/Spanish/German seem not useful, and on top, overcharged. Where the hotel takes care to employ their own housekeeping staff, results are much better. Carpet dirty, hairs all over. Stains on desks, tables and coffee corner, on mirror and frame, feet of furniture sticky and filthy. All information cards and papers for restaurant etc. that belong to the room were visibly used, twisted and stained from previous guests. Not appetizing. No proper daily clean-up done, used glasses, cups left around, minibar filled up only after personal request to the executive housekeeper, tea and coffee not filled up at all till end of stay. Bed mattress too soft. Water pressure far too low to make proper use of the rain shower. Door key did not work every time I returned to my room, had to ask some staff to let me in. TV remote control was broken, had to call to get it exchanged. The two small lights by the bedsides out of function. Desk lamp flashing and flickering in all colours! What is that? Even the choice of international daily newspapers that would be delivered to my door mornings, as it is still advertised on the internet, was completely unheard of at the reception. I did not even see a single newspaper in the whole hotel during my entire stay. After a failed attempt to repair my door card, I got a new pair of cards for the last day. Breakfast for 22.50 extremely poor, miles away from the standard of other four star Accor hotels. Scrambled eggs inedible. General appearance of the hotel is rather basic for four stars, whole outlay very narrow, very dark. All this sums up to my conclusion not to return to Mercure Sloterdijk in future, but to give preference to other Accor hotels in town.

My wife and I arrived at the hotel at 11 p.m. on July 31st. Before going to the hotel, we've stopped in a supermarket by the central station in Amsterdã and bought something to eat in the room. As we forgot to buy disposable cutlery, we asked the recepcionist if it was possible to get forks and knifes in the hotel restaurant and he promptly helped us. On the next day, we left the hotel by noon and returned near 11 p.m.. There was no towels, no toilet paper, the glasses we've used in the night before, as well as the cutlery were left in the room. We had to call the reception twice in order to have bath towels and face towels so we could take a shower and relax. On the following day, the glasses and the cutlery were still there. The bin in the bathroom wasn't collect. Finally, in our last night at the hotel, the has a "hair ball" in the bathroom floor, the bin bag was on the room table and the glasses and cutlery from our first night were still there. We're absolutely desapointed! We expected to have a confortable and pleasant stay, but it was the very opposite. When we check out the recepcionist appologized, discounted 45 euros of our expenses, but, even so, we will certainly look for another hotel the next time we are in Amsterdã. I really hope you improve the housekeeping and cleaning services. Regards, Marina

« ok but couple of issues »

I stay regularly and on the whole I like hotel with its friendly staff, good location and facilities. However 2 issues are recurring for me 1) Check in time - although I check in on line, I've still had to wait in the region of 15 minutes to get checked in when I get to the hotel, on 3 of my last 4 visits. 2) Wifi - very unreliable. I often have to work at the hotel and every week I've stayed the wifi has been out of action on several occasions. Some outages last more than an hour.

The reception staff were friendly and helpful from the off. The room was of an adequate size and well equipped. The air con was a god send in the heat! My only observation was that I felt we should have had our tea and coffee replaced in a 2 night stay. The location by the railway station meant travel was easy and efficient. The gym was an added bonus and perhaps could do with a little more in it.

Room was nice and clean, beds comfy. Only down side was the housekeeping staff were very loud in the mornings and the walls are very thin. Rooms a little small but clean and nice all the same. All staff we met were very friendly, chatty, knowledgeable and helpful.

Stayed for two nights, post work meetings. Convenient locations close to Sloterdijk station. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. Hotel was very quiet. Highlight was the restaurant bar on the top floor. Great modern space, with fun views of the area. Staff were efficient. Sometimes felt like there weren't enough staff at reception during the times I was there, but they were helpful when I accidentally left an item in my room when I checked out, and they assisted me in finding it. Would stay again.

We had a great stay at Mercure. We had a room with 1 double and 2 single beds to accommodate a family of 4. The rooms are modern, large and spacious. The train station is just opposite the hotel and is very convenient for travel to Central Amsterdam and airport (schipol) as well. There is a coffee shop just opposite the hotel or you can opt for more cafes next to the station or inside it. There is also a grocery store right next to the station. We preferred not to stay in the city center since the hotel are expensive and old style (cramped and not very modern). The staff is friendly and I would specifically want to mention the great service we received from Seline at the front desk.

Upon entrance to room, there is strong cigarette smell for non smoking room and reported to front desk. Sent room service but just advise to open the window. Smell never goes away and had to endure smell for 6 days. Full 6 days stay , no change of breakfast menu and have to eat same food for full 6 days. No change for bedsheet for six days as same stain on bed till we check out. Same Empty water bottle has been on the floor for full 6 days too. Just show how bad the clean service is. Service at front desk was great though. Won’t stay in same hotel for next trip.
