This is NOT a SofitelWe booked this hotel based on our years of staying at Sofitel hotels around the world. This property is very outdated, old and in need of total renovation. We had booked a suite with balcony and as we checked in were told that our suite will not have balcony and there is no chance of changing it. The suite was good size, however very old. The furniture was old as well as the bathroom. The shower had a small glass door and while using it would splash water everywhere.on the last day we had the Do not Disturb sign on the door and one of the hotel employees knocked, then opened the door while I was dressing. This is totally unacceptable and not expected from a Sofitel.Overall we were disappointed from the time we arrive until we left.This is NOT a 5 Star hotel and should not be advertised as such, it is misleading and not worth the money we paid for. At best We would rate this a 3 Starr property.

This hotel is absolutely charming, vintage, old and as everything old it has its own mood; the plumbing is noisy, the safe box has to be checked for opening, last time during storm it rained in our room, but this is part of this extraordinary experience! The staff is so kind that everything is immediately forgot... please do not change anything!

« Indifferent service at a fading gem »

We stayed here for 3 nights. Good in some ways to be out of hustle of Palermo, but then options for dining are limited very much to the hotel. The villa had a grand presence, but needed significant repairs and upkeep. Lights not working, one phone in room non functioning(and still was by end of stay despite reporting), cracks, loose tiles etc. Front desk and pool bar service good. Terrace and restaurant service hopeless. Not sure if arrogance or ineptitude. Young staff busy but older waiters the worst I’ve seen. Similar accomodation and prices to Villa Athena Agrigento and Grand Hotel Ortigia and those places left Villa Igiea for dead. Expected so much more

« Nice place but restaurant needs to improve »

This was my second time staying at the hotel. I like everything except the dinner experience. The food is overpriced, not super tasty and service is poor. Also, the room service was not great. We got a different wine from which we ordered, although slightly cheaper, and the stake as cold.

One of the Rooms smelled very bad. Staff knew about this smell problem and sold this room anyway. We could not get another room since the hotel was fully booked. Unacceptable for a 5 star hotel where the roomprice is high. Barwoman on the terrace was very unfriendly and rude. We waited for more than 30 minutes before someone took our order. Concierge, poolman vincenzo and one receptionist were very friendly also the doormen and the chauffeurs of the bus into town. Management does not greet their guests when they pass by. (We were amazed by that) Most staff is friendly, roommaids, porters, concierges, restaurant staff. Poolbar staff was rude and not friendly more busy with themselves than with guests. First day we had lunch. 3 tables and 7 waiters and it took long before we could order. The waiter told us the extras. There was a lot of fresh fish as extra. My husband said that I did not eat fish and the waiter found it nessecairy to tell me. You do not know what you miss not eating fish. That was an remarkeble comment to a guest since he did not know the reason why I cannot eat fish. There is a lot of improvement possible. Specially training staff in some departments to be more friendly and polite. It is a pity. We have been to this hotel before and the staff was always more relaxed and friendly. Villa Igiea is a special place, beautiful old villa with a good vibe. I hope the standard will improve soon because it has potential.

We spent two weeks in Sicily. We had two separate stints in Palermo. For the first, we stayed in town, at the Grand Hotel Et Des Palmes. After touring the island we stayed at the Villa Igiea. The Villa Igiea was vastly better than the Hotel des Palmes, but that isn’t saying much. While our room was clean and the hotel grounds beautiful, our room AIr Conditioning didn’t work, despite repeated calls to have it looked at, and our room’s door card key unit similarly went on the fritz and the man who came was unable to repair it. Our dinner at the hotel was the most expensive of the trip, and not the best by far. We were not permitted late checkout (I am a Sofitel Platinum member) though I was told we could keep the room until 1 pm. At noon however, the front desk started calling to ask us to vacate our room. Our plane didn’t leave until early evening and all we wanted was a place to change before the flight. I finally ascertained there was a shower at the gym and we could change there, but there was no attempt by staff to problem solve. Finally, we were given coupons for a welcome drink, but were turned down several times when we actually tried to use them. The waitress poolside (who was helpful and very nice) agreed to take them our last day, but not before my husband was turned down by several people at the bar. Also, the location is well out of town, so you need a car or you will have to depend if the shuttle to see Palermo’s major sights. Having said all that it is probably the nicest place in the area, and as we had a car and were heading to day trips in Monreale and other nearby areas, the location worked well for us. But, the place is in sore need of investment and it is expensive for what you get.

Villa Igeia is an absolutely beautiful hotel. The building as well as the view from the garden make you feel like you’re in a fairytale. The staff is nice and will do everything to make you feel comfortable. Our “tops”: - the building is amazing - the pool is beautiful and the pool service is good! - the view is really nice. - the breakfast is overwhelming and very good. There is a wide selection of fresh foods and the seating area is lovely to start you day. Unfortunately there were also a few dissapointing bits during our stay: - as frequent guests to Accor properties, including MGallery and Sofitel branded hotels, we thought the room itself was not representative of the MGallery brand and was dissapointingly small. We opted for the dependence room and I guess the main rooms are much better. But in all honesty I think all rooms should be representative of the hotel class and MGallery brand. Short but simple: it was not. - the food and beverages at the restaurant and bars are really expensive (18€ for two 33cl Moretti beers!!) - the airconditioning in our room wasn’t working and just circulating hot air, making our nights really warm and damp. We didn’t sleep well for the seven nights we were here, not a 5* experience. We did complain about this twice but maintenance was unable to fix the problem. -the area of the hotel feels a bit dodgy and is quite far from the city center. The hotel offers a nice shuttle service to the city and back but those wanting to have dinner in Palermo should expect to pay 20-25€ for a taxi back as the shuttle doesn’t operate late night. A tip for future travelers: for a nice selection of restaurants in a nice local area just 5-10 min by foot, go for the Tonnara Florio restaurant and the restaurants in that area. We had dinner here almost every night. Real value for money!

« Beautiful Hotel with Character. »

One night, wish it had been more. Excellent staff, great location, wonderful terrace in the day and even better in the evening. Very good breakfast and available until 11.00am. Light meal and welcome drink on terrace was great. Lovely room and bed.
