« Nice hotel but old rooms »

The hotel is very nice, it looks really majesty and luxiourus, it met the expectations about Mercure chain. But it is visible that the hotel was former 5 star but need to be reconstructed again. The rooms are very old (especially carpet) but still pretty nice and comfortable. I would appreciate 24 hours snack bar.

A nice stay, efficient staff, good upgrade that we got as a gold member. However, I had a small disappointment. I forgot my wallet at the lounge bar on May 25 and only noticed it the next morning when I need my passport. I remember exactly the place i put it in the bar so I went down, checked with reception and someone found it, they gave it back to me. I opened, all things were there except 150 USD missing (100$ and 50 $ notes) . It was obviously my mistake but I think the staff could handle it more professionally such as calling me down when they found it (they have my passport in the wallet and knew which room I was) instead of leaving it until the next morning when I checked. And as a business hotel, I expect not to loose $, even though I felt blessed I got my passport back.

Excelsior must be one of the very best hotels in Catania. Stylish building, with my gold card in Accor we had an upgrade to a very nice room. Location is ok, close to the centre. Good bus connection with airport.

« Great location & Efficient Service »

I stayed at the hotel with my wife for 3 days. The hotel is very central, and we enjoyed strolling through the Sunday food market opposite the hotel in Piazza Giovanni Verga. The room was excellent, much bigger than we expected. The bathroom was beautiful. We did not try the fitness room. Breakfast was excellent as well. The pastries were divine. However the sausages were not the best, and we felt the English breakfast could be improved. Nonetheless, for a 4-star hotel, we received a 5-star service and we were very happy overall. If we come back to Catania, which we are planning to, we will definitely stay with Mercure Catania Excelsior again.

« Very run down. »

Desperatly needs renewing. Even the chairs require a coat of varnish. Carpets were stained. The elevators are gone. They cant possibly pass safety inspections. On brighter side, the staff are smiling and helpful.

« We just loved it! »

Our first time to Sicilia - it was a perfect welcome place. Conveniently located hotel, very friendly and helpful staff. The rooms and the facilities are great. The eating options were also great both at the hotel and nearby. We drove to a few places on the East coast - Taormina, Augusta and Syracuse are just the three top destinations to mention! (Easy parking options available at the hotel). I would come back to this place every time when in Catania!

I requested a quiet room for our wedding anniversary and was allocated a lovely room on the 6th floor with a large comfortable bed. The only observation were:- 1) would have preferred porcelain cups rather than disposal cups for tea & coffee. 2) The flow shower was slower than we were used to. Overall, a very pleasant stay

« Quality about hotel receptionist »

Mostly the experience of this stay is great: convenient location, tasty buffet breakfast, room is clean, just the shower is too weak. But all good images was damaged while we check out. Since the elevator to car park is broken, I have to walked to car park from the street entrance. My other friend waiting in lobby with luggages and do check out for me. She was informed by the receptionist that the room was not paid. But due to full payment was settle via Accor app, including breakfast. Than, the receptionist changed his word said that breakfast is not settle. And have to pay for city tax too. I just wonder, if every informations are according to the database, how can the receptionist just don’t know what kind of payment is settled, and which one is not. Or, just my opinion, they can name any of the charges, but where are the money goes by the end?

« Older style but comfortable accomodation »

We stayed 4 nights at Mercure Catania Excelsior. The hotel is a bit old but very comfortable. Room is spacious and facilities were very good - including coffee and tea making facilities. Staff were very friendly. Breakfast buffet was extensive but never changed - perhaps an area for some improvement. The hotel has numerous restaurants in the local area and is around 20 minutes walk to the centre of town. Don't use the hotel suggested taxi service - we were charged 15 Euros for a 1.2 kilometre trip.

The staff were very nice, the lobby was very inviting. The barman was very nice. The rooms were clean but the bathroom needs to be refurbished. The hotel location is very central with a lovely view of Etna.

« an old hotel which urgently needs to be updated and renovated in order to keep the 4 stars category »

we spent 5 nights in Mercure Excelsior. Some of the staff is friendly and helpful while some other are unfriendly and uncooperative. The hotel is old, the room is ancient with the toilet in even more ancient state. It is particularly hard to mix the hot and cold water to get a shower at the right temperature. The curtain of the large window are wrinkled and it is impossible to make the room dark also because of the silly lights on the balcony, on all night. The room facing Etna is noisy cause of traffic and ambulances, fire service and police passing by at late night. The carpet in the corridors is in poor state and wrinkled, causing danger to trip on it. The elevators are probably of "Jurassic" period. It is disturbing to see the homeless sleeping next to the entrance of the hotel and all the dirt and garbage accumulated in the small garden right outside the hotel.

« Disappointed stay »

Room provided was ok, but number of staffs in reception wasn't enough, it took long time to check in / out. Towels were provided only one set and no replace in the second day. I had to use wet one in the second day. Restaurant at breakfast venue has never spoken to me even to check room number, the response was quite loose when I asked a cup of espresso. I didn't feel any effort to welcome guests from the staffs. Unfortunately I won't come back again.
