« Pleasant but frustrating at times »

Overall the stay was pleasant but there were many inconsistencies which put me off. Such as being offered an upgrade at check in and when arriving at the room, it being a disabled hotel room which was a category way below what we had booked. We ended up with what we had booked as we were later informed there were actually no upgrades available. Also when calling reception to provide bathrobes they never turned up. Our room only had one robe which was so small or shrunk we could not wear it at all. The pillow menu seems extensive but staff who delivered these had no idea what types of pillows we had ordered and provided pillows which weren’t what we had requested.

Staff were very welcoming and went out of their way to make our stay a great one. Hotel was only 3 weeks old, very comfortable and 5 star.

« Given the location and the brand, was really disappointed in a number of areas and would not return if I hadn't prepaid for the next stay »

There are many positives in relation to this new property, including the location and those amazing views, the comfy signature bed and little details like the coffee machine and chocolate treats in the room. Sadly, the negatives (disappointingly many, for a brand new property, and for the Sofitel brand) far outweigh the bad for us. The noise from Darling Harbour was constant. I would have thought that windows would have been better at blocking sound. There was no morning newspaper, no turn-down service. There was a full bath, which in theory is a great idea, but in order to make it fit in the bathroom, it is at a strange angle and almost sticking out into the 'bedroom' area. Awkward and invited bumping into. While service in the Millesime Lounge was friendly and prompt, the canape offerings were mediocre at best. Staff at Atelier were equally friendly, but many seemed to have only the barest grasp of English and communication was therefore difficult. The opportunity for stunning views in the hotel's restaurant were sadly missed, with only three (very large, round) tables being anywhere near a window to Darling Harbour. The breakfast stations looked promising, but offerings were quite basic. The pool area had great views ... including into the bathrooms of several corner suites, which is a real concern, given that our next stay is in one of those corner units. One would normally be in the bath(room) disrobed, but I'm now concerned, given that you can see into them both during the day and, obviously, again (even more so) at night from the pool area. I pointed this out to a manager at the pool and he suggested we could close the blinds ... which kind of defeats the purpose of a bath-with-a-view. Similar properties would have had some sort of obscured glass or another solution. Also not sure if it was just the day we were there, but it appears the pool deck is in a wind tunnel of sorts, which made it quite frosty on a cool day. And while we got there early and found lounges on which to enjoy the ambience and lovely cocktails and snacks, by mid-morning, many guests were spreading towels on the floor as there were so few places to sit. Perhaps in this instance it's a case of the area being "loved to death" and I'm not sure what the answer is other than jamming in more furniture, which would change the atmosphere significantly. We have booked for a stay for our anniversary and if it had been possible to cancel, I would do so and book to stay elsewhere. It is just not a 'Sofitel' experience, the way we are used to in, say, the Wentworth Avenue property, or Sofitels in New York and Bangkok. As part of our stay, we had also booked to celebrate our anniversary dinner at Atelier in December but have changed our mind and will head to a different restaurant with a view and more expansive offerings. This is a very sad thing for us, because we were so very excited about the new property. I had even spent $500 on the charity fundraising raffle in an (unsuccessful) effort to win a stay during the ‘soft opening’ night, and made two bookings as soon as they were possible. We will have to stay on 9 December because, as I said, we’ve pre-paid, but unless something changes dramatically, we probably won’t bother to be back. I apologise if this review is a bit harsh, but there is no point in ‘sugar-coating’ our very real feelings, and you did ask for honesty.

« An amazing stay in an Amazing Hotel »

Our experience began form the moment we entered the Hotel. You know upon entering you are in for something spectacular . The staff were welcoming and attentive. Nothing was to much trouble. We were pleasantly surprised to find we had been upgraded to room 609. As we entered this amazing room your view is instantly drawn to the beautiful larger than full size bath looking out of the full length windows over Darling Harbor and the hotel pool. You realize right away nothing has been spared in this room. From the furnishings to the fittings the entire hotel is beautiful. We took the time to visit the restaurant and bar on level three and again felt welcomed every where we went..a hint to all be sure to BOOK for this restaurant, you will not regret it.. The hotel is only complemented by its wonderful staff. From the doorman who greets you to the reception team , and restaurant team and the room staff who, (like ninjas) we never actually saw, they were all amazing and are what made our stay so memorable. Well done Sofitel and well done Sydney Team, you were above and beyond .

« Beautiful new hotel, great location, too expensive to park a car. »

Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Sofitel Darling harbour. The service was great, food at the restaurant was good but the cost to park our car was way too expensive. To charge loyal Accor members $79 per night for parking is ridiculous. For this reason we will not be staying at this hotel again.

« Wonderful »

Could not fault the service or the rooms. My only suggestion is their are not alot of facilities for people ie: pool space, no sauna or day spa. If the hotel had these facilities it would be amazing.

« Fantastic all the way »

We were very impressed right from the start, valet parking to express check, our room was ready early so we were shown to the lifts and given a brief rundown of this new hotel. A very enjoyable experience was had.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay but my only negative comment is that the scrambled eggs in the Club were completely tasteless and I am assuming were powdered eggs.

Disappointed with the location of the room - 7th floor and back corner meant that more than half the view from the "luxury corner room with Darling Harbour View" was of the Novotel, the Ibis and their car parks. I think these back rooms should be advertised and priced a little differently to the front rooms. Otherwise, fine, the room was very nice. Only thing lacking was some way to play music, e.g. a bluetooth speaker/radio. If there was one in the room, we couldn't find it. Bed/pillows, shower and bath all fantastic.

« VERY UNHAPPY »

We always stay at an Accor hotel wherever we go. Our first time in Sydney, we chose to stay here. what a disappointment. The T.V was in a terrible position so we couldn't lay in bed and watch T.V...our room was serviced Daily however they did not replace the body wash so we had to call reception for it. We tried to book dinner for the Saturday night, however they were booked out, this is ongoing at all of your hotels. We had $400 worth of gift vouchers to use and out of the 4 people standing around us, not one of them could figure out how to activate them, they were quick to blame accor who had sent them to me inactivated. 30 mins later, i had started getting frustrated and also had a Driver waiting for us out the front to take us back to the airport. They told me they would contact Accor to get the cards activated. I told them not to charge my CC without calling me to advise what Accor had said. It ended with me having to just leave as it had been 45 mins and we were going to be late for our flight so we just left. 2 days later...MY CC WAS CHARGED. I spoke to a manager who was very apologetic but it just isn't good enough. The money was refunded back to my CC but still not happy. I have to say, as a member, i would expect much better service than this. its seems to be getting worse and worse. Im sure if you checked my account, you would see that i am A silver member and there should be many complaints on my file. Not only That, my Mother is a Gold member and i can tell you, that this sort of service does not look good. Lastly, I would surely hope you work on your customer service as my Honeymoon is booked in May 2018 and i am staying at an Accor hotel in Port Douglas and i can assure you, if there is any issues. I will not be a happy woman to deal with.

We were impressed with the service and the position in Darling Harbour. We could find public transport easily or could walk everywhere. Our stay was so good we spent a lot of time in our room just enjoying it. Thank you.
