Hotel lobby and rooms were beautiful, Purple and Eighty Eight were a big let down. Both are in a direct contrast ( and in a bad way ) with everything else in the hotel . Dinner on Sunday August 5 ( my birthday ) was so bad that I sent back everything and had no food. Beautiful tiles on the floor in Purple but so badly laid that they look cheap and dirty . Music in the bar not relaxing ( why play rap or hiphop in a 5 star hotel, also the welcome drink was powdered orange juice, we could not drink it . Staff at Purple were so nice and helpful , it was a pity to spoil everything, food at breakfast and at buffet dinner was very good but a la carte dinner was a joke.( freezing cold both started and main courses)

Stayed there for a quick vacation on the first weekend of July. Location - fairly central, 15 minutes drive from the congested airport with poor taxi systems. 10 minutes from Ambarukkmo mall and 15 minutes from the famous Jalan Malioboro which the hotel does provide a few times in a day - free. The newish hotel is grand by local standard, saw a lot of local chinese guests that are generally very noisy and demanding. Room - comfortable, smallish which is a typical new Accor standard design. The room I stayed on the 9th floor has many ants in the TOILET! Hotel has many room categories that can be confusing. Imagine different rooms on the same floor (generally with the same size) commands different pricings (just because either it overlooks the noisy road, the slump or the mountain which is not worth the extra money in my opinion or they are just slightly “bigger”. To be fair, there are close to 100 rooms on each floor - so its pretty huge. Room toilet has seen “better days” - the shower wall is dirty - no scrubbing ever done I guess. The notepad by the bed had only 1 piece of paper. The tissue box in the toilet had 5 piecess of tissue papers only. Detailed items in the room are definitely unexpected from a well established hotel such as Grand Mercure. On the bright side, was presented with a plate of juicy friuts. Ordered room service - Club Sandwich and Spaghetti Bolognaise - very good. Service was prompt. Swimming pool, smallish, not grand at all. Did not swim there. Breakfast, common local and international food mixes. Feedback to the duty manager that the cakes are hard, very sweet and unappetising. While the restaurant ambience was ok, it failed to attract guests to have breakfast there. Three morning breakfasts from sunday to tuesday, I did not see even a 50 percent utilization of the restaurant space. Hmmm … Hope to see the hotel improves on the minuses that I’ve mentioned above.
