Room clean and well presented bathroom clean although when standing in the shower it was obvious there was washable dirt in the grouting which was removable with an old toothbrush. Might seem minor but what appeared to be a clean shower suddenly felt dirty. Attention to detail....Otherwise an enjoyable stay and would stay again.

Booked twin room though hotels.com, but wanted a double. I contacted the hotel after making the reservation and was told they would alter the booking to a double as same cost. At checkin told I had a twin. Considering not staying again as I’m really disappointed

The hotel overbooked my room. Downgraded from privileged to standard at check-in.

On check-in the receptionist informed me they had no Privilege rooms left, as it was company policy to over book these rooms. Without any sincerity at all, she apologised and said she would put me into a standard room and refund the difference in cost. I subsequently checked and this new room rate didn’t match the website, so she had to further refund. I had chosen this hotel over others in the area, specifically for the privilege option and what it offered in way of coffee machine and refreshments. If there wasn’t a privilege room available when I booked, I wouldn’t have stayed at this hotel, so I was disappointed to have to put up with a standard. Next problem was the air conditioning did not function and just buzzed all night, as if the fan was stuck. I had to open the windows which let in considerable noise from a chiller unit below, starting and stopping all night, let alone the road noise. Due to the heat, noise and one of the most worn out bed I’ve ever experienced, I got very little sleep. All in all, this was a total disaster and I couldn’t wait to leave. I know it sounds picky, but the room wasn’t even very clean. Dirt and debris on the carpet and a cigarette but on the windowsill. I’ve stayed at this hotel several times over the past couple of weeks and have been pleased with the privilege rooms. This room was terrible. I’m extremely reluctant to stay at a Mercure again, due to the risk of being downgraded.

The hotel rooms appear a little basic in furniture but they have everything and more than you need including a kettle which seems missing from most hotels. The bathroom was very lovely and the bath tub a dream for someone who does not have a bath at home. The robe, slippers and extras in the bathroom made it so you could simply walk in and stay. The breakfast was very good for a buffet too and the staff were very lovely indeed.

Arrived and was welcomed . It was very hot when we got there so look forward to advertised air con , sorry didn’t exist. Room was clean except from the smell of sewage in the bathroom I did report it and I’m sure it will be cured only 3 sachets of milk left in room ?? Got some fresh milk from reception which quickly curdled .Had a meal which although like the drinks were expensive but was very good.Very quiet at night which was a bonus .but far to hot .Breakfast was very good but short staffed . I felt the staff were very good but had too many jobs to do each.Overall ok experience don’t know if would come back . Full marks for the hard working staff

As a loyalty member this Mercure is not on par with other Mercure's in Sheffield or Manchester . I would rebrand this to an IBIS hotel , budget hotel

We felt welcome at all times, the staff were cheerful and friendly, the room was comfortable and cool, (the weather was very warm,) the food was good, though to tell the truth, we would have preferred slightly smaller portions. As we don't need a cooked breakfast, although it did look excellent, we would have preferred a more sustaining choice of cereals, a quality muesli, but nevertheless, we enjoyed our meals. Thank you.

Room was fine with good noise cancelling windows however mini fridge in room was noisy all night and the air conditioning was largely ineffective unless on level 3 fan which was too noisy. Breakfast was fine except that items ran out and were not replenished (pastries etc) despite it only being 8am. Howver all of the above is no different to other hotels - my main real issue is my experience on returning to the hotel just after midnight. A colleage dropped me at the door and left. The outer door was open however the inner door was locked for reasons of security. However there was no means of using my hotel card to swipe in. There was a small sign giving a mobile number to call. I rang this number several times but no one answered. I left a voicemail asking for someone to let me in. I called again several times but no one answered. i sent a text message but got no reply. I knocked on the door and no one came - the hotel looked deserted. So basically as a lone female, I was locked out of the hotel with no means of getting in. I was there a good few minutes on my own when two men arrived - they could have been anyone, however fortunately for me they were looking to check in having had a long journey. They were most disgruntled to be told by me that there was no way in. I beieve they also tried the mobile number before knocking on the door but a lot more forcefully than I did. Eventuallly a female member of staff came to open the door. I was quite annoyed that the first thing she said rather than I'm so sorry was in fact "There is a number you can ring you know!" in a quite aggressive manner. I'm afraid I told her in no uncertain terms that I had rung the number several times. She replied "I have had this phone by my side and it has not rung!". Unbelievable! Stil no apology. I had, had enough at that point and went to bed. I complained the next morning and was told that there had been "a charging problem" with the phone. No real apology was made and I felt that this had let the hotel down badly. As a female who travels a lot on business I have never experienced an issue like this at any hotel i have stayed in. Obviously as I travel alone my personal safety is at the forefront of my mind and as a consequence I will not be staying at this hotel again and probably not at any other Mercure either. I have shared my experience with my other colleagues as I would not want anyone else to experience this. Mercure Sheffield Parkway get your act together - I appreciate you need to lock the door but you need to find a better way to allow guests to have access to the hotel without compromising their safety.

The hotel facilities were comfortable for the time we had available. Our bathroom did initially have a stale odour from the shower drain, possibly due to the room not being recently used in the hot weather period. Breakfast was excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
