- Bovice Li at Reception desk was helpful with our check in while the rest of our tour mates were coming in late on a delayed flight. - Spa massage was great. - Chinese restaurant needs a review in its service and offering. Every dish was like it was made for 10 people and there was only two of us. The dining atmosphere was not great. - Room has some smell which I tried to get rid of with my own air spray.

Sofitel Xining itself is a beautifully built complex and the room I stay is also well decorated and very comfortable. Welcome dessert and fruit for Gold Member were served. The only flaw for this stay was the check out process. I booked online using Points+Cash, but I was charged full price. Then I asked what went wrong, the staff told me that her colleague at the check-in did not put this note in the system so she did not know I was going to use my points, the payment was processed and can not be withdrawn. I asked the staff to cancel this payment and re-do it using points+cash, she expressed again how hard it will be to re-do it, and say I can use my point another time at another hotel... I felt this is not my fault and I do want to use my points so I insist. She said she will try to cancel the payment and re-do it the right way. I was in a rush to the airport and did not wait till she done. I have not got my refund yet and do not know how this will be proceeded. My advice: The staff should understand she should try her best to help and solve the problem, instead of saying it's other's fault, and ask the customer to bear with it.

Service is good, there is bad experience when have the Toiletries in bathroom. The hotel had provided low cheap brand instead of Lanvin brand toiletries. Our guests need to call Sofitel to change it and then to have Lanvin, it is amazing to suffer it in Sofitel.

Food was very disappointing. Not 5 star. We ordered pasta with prawns anchovy garlic and white wine. Only boiled pasta with prawns no favour no anchovies. Cold food.

Everything in the hotel was really really good. The only small drawback I see is the lack of English language skills by the hotel's staff. But there are not so many foreign guests in comparison to Chinese native guests so that is kind of understandable

Great Stay Again in Xining Sofitel

Spent another single day in Sofitel Xining in July during my business trip. Believe July and August are the best months to travel to Xinng and there were great numbers of guests checking in and out in the lobby. Though, everything were very well organized and maintained in order. I received sincere and warm greetings from Ms l. Jia from customer relationship department which was a great start of a excellent stay. The room was tidy and clean, the breakfast was good as well. I was not able to find my cable of my cell phone after check out on the second day (it was in my suitcase and i did not check carefully )and i called the hotline of our hotel and the lady on the line (i heard her surname was Yu ) was very polite and patient. Though nothing had been found eventually since the cable was in my suitcase with me, but the overall experince during the stay - especially outstanding service from Ms l. and Ms Yu was quite impressive. I have been travelling a lot and am gold/platinum member for SPG/Marriot, Hilton and IHG, Accor does not have big hotel coverage in China, but given the great experince agian in Sofitel Xining, I will prefer to stay in Accor Hotels in China in the future. Again, thanks for the impressive service been provoded!

One recommendation- the spa experience was not relaxing. You have a luxury hotel but the spa quality is not the same as the rest of the hotel service.

Room was fine. If you do not want to encourage English speakers, then stay was probably ok. However, when we attempted to trade our drink coupon for one bottle of water in the restaurant with dinner, one English speaker did appear to tell us that we could not use the coupon in restaurant, only in the bar. Very inconvenient. We left and ate elsewhere. No one else in the restaurant spoke English. Car was 10 minutes late to go to airport, with no one able to explain anything to us. Jenny spoke good English and helped a lot when she was there. Maps (2) from front desk were not detailed enough for us to walk around town.

Five shirts that were all neatly folded in a pile on the floor were taken from my hotel room (Room 914).

Other than the missing shirts, everything was fine. The pool was nice. I gave a detailed description of the missing shirts to the front desk manager at checkout. I thought maybe the maid had them laundered by mistake. I don't know who else had access to my room. There was a man across the hall who always had his door open and was sitting at his desk, watching everyone who went past in the hallway.

I was offered a free upgrade to a suite. Very nice layout and luxurious suite. Very impressive and comfortable stay! Would love to come back again. Two areas which could be improved. Firstly, the priority check-in and check-out table beside the main reception counter is always empty without dedicated staff so VIP guests still have to approach the main counter. Secondly, we were inform that the buffet would end at 10pm, but unfortunately all the food and utensils were removed at 9:30pm and we were not reminded to take the last order before their removal.

Situated in the new area of Xining, this hotel is definitely the best one in Qinghai province. Magnificent lobby area, elegant and luxury rooms, top class fitness facilities, delicious meals. Very good alcohol selections in the executive lounge. I would like to thank Candy Wang who delivered exceptional service to us in the lounge. Most of the staff were very polite, but I do hope that every staff who meet guests should and must greet guests. And I believe that’s one of the standard that SOFITEL brand should carry and maintain. Last but not least, I would like to draw your attentions to the translations of dish's name in the ADD restaurants. I saw so many mistakes and wrong expressions in the translations while i was having breakfast. for examples, you put parsley instead of coriander, Big Kong Cheese for Emmental Cheese, Yellow Cheese for Gouda Cheese, The poison juice of five greens is drained for Detox juice and so on... I think the management of this hotel must pay serious attentions to this issue as you are a chain hotel of an international brand. And That’s really a shame and disgrace for the brand of ACCOR.
