« Beautiful Hotel - poorly resourced »

The look and design of the hotel is impressive. The room is more beautiful in real life than the pictures portray. The staff are immaculately presented and friendly. The food was of an acceptable standard. However, over all the stay was disappointing and frustrating. The light indicating privacy on the panel inside the room did not work. So you had to poke your head outside the room to check it was on. The air conditioning unit said the filter needed to be replaced when turned on. Leaving me to wonder if the air was clean and safe. The staff said this always happens. An obvious flaw that needs repairing. Despite being an Accor Gold member I was unable to get an upgrade. I requested a bathrobe to be told there weren't any as previous patrons had stolen them and they weren't replaced. I ordered room service to be told the restaurant had run out of the desert I wanted. The downstairs parking is limited. But if you ask they will tell you there is more at the side/back. I ordered an iced coffee from the restaurant to go. I was told they couldn't do that as they only had small cups. I went to the restaurant, was given a tall glass but was told they only had short straws. When I asked why, staff said because the hotel only orders short straws. I left with the strong impression that the hotel whilst looking good is running on a budget mentality and not willing or able to adequately resolve reported problems. Or doesn't know how to. It's not acceptable. I wouldn't recommend this hotel. It has a long way to go. You would get better value for money elsewhere and you'd save yourself a headache. The hotel probably doesn't have panadol anyway.

« Great facities, check in experience very average. »

Checking in was not what I would expect for an Accor Hotel. The check in agent (his name was Amand or something similar) didn't seem overly enthusiastic about his job and in fact seem to lose interest halfway through checking me in and seemed to be doing something else. After a while I had to ask him if he had finished and reach over to grab my keycard that was still sitting next to his keyboard! The next day when I checked out the person at the desk was much friendlier and seemed alot more like an Accor staff member. Room and facilities were great. I tried to get some ice delivered to my room but it was around 11pm so no one was answering any phones (including the operator), but not a major. Would stay again, but only because there are no other new hotels in the area...

The Novotel New Plymouth is a very modern, clean and welcoming hotel. The staff on reception were exceptionally pleasant, as were the housekeeping staff. The staff in the restaurant were more variable. The 2-bedroom suite was great, the bathroom very nice (well put together). A novelty to see kitchen facilities in a Hotel. The buffet breakfast was adequate. We dined at the restaurant once for lunch, and once for dinner. Lunch was OK. The three mains at diner could all have been considerably better (i.e. they were disappointing). Diner at the Orangery across the road at the International hotel was far superior, as was Salt at the Waterfront Hotel. I would certainly stay at the hotel again, and recommend it to others visiting New Plymouth.

The staff were great on check in. Staff in restaurant we never there to great you, short staffed, always had to go to bar and wait for assistance. The flies in the restaurant were unbelievable, surely they could install some fly zappers. The food was not replenished fast enough for breakfast, big table prior ate all fresh fruit. Had to ask for glasses and cuttlery.

The rooms were clean and well presented. The facilities were likewise great. The only negative that we experienced was that the kitchen/bar area always appeared to be short staffed as it would take longer than expected for service, particularly bar service. Otherwise everything else was perfect.
