« Weekend in Edinburgh »

Stayed here for a couple of nights, good location 15mins walk to city centre. Modern hotel with excellent facilities, no on-site parking but nearby secure public car park. Very comfortable room, clean and well prepared. Reception staff knowledgeable and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

Hotel is modern, rooms are average size, but no storage space. Breakfast is good, but all self service. Staff are very helpful, but bar prices are too high. Would go back again if in Edinburgh. All in all a good hotel.

« Mercurial Heymarket stay »

Whilst the exterior of the hotel is not the prettiest and doesn't instill immediate confidence in your choice of hotel, absolutely everything else about it is fabulous. The atmosphere when entering the hotel is welcoming and the staff are super friendly and helpful. My room was clean, modern and comfortable with a very comfy bed,a lovely shower, t.v, kettle, iron and a hairdryer. Having stayed in hotels all over the world, both cheaper and expensive, I would highly recommend this particular hotel if you are going to stay for a few days in the beautiful city of Edinburgh.

« Great stay »

Everything is still nice and new! Easy check in and check out, room was great although a bit on the small side. There is a fridge in the room which is good. Great location, we got off the train at Haymarket. Great value too, would use again. We didn't sample the food or bar so can't comment on that.

Reception staff member who checked us in was very abrupt and not very approachable. Room was decent, quite small compared to other Mercures ive stayed in. Breakfast good however not much nutritional information / allergy information and staff not very clear.

Great Hotel in great location near to Princes Street and all major sites. The hotel staff were friendly and provided all assistance we requested. Only negative was a crazy conversation about stopping the car outside the hotel to put our cases back into the car.

« Comfortable but noisy »

Comfortable room, good facilities in line with previous Mercure hotel stays. However through the air conditioning vent I could hear the shower running in the bedroom upstairs. Which was rather annoying at 5am. I did report it to the hotel staff, not wanting to move rooms as it was a short stay but I was not impressed with their reaction. They assured me it was the air conditioning making the noise to which I commented if they knew the noise was so loud in that room why did they put me to in there?

Our hotel has responded to the review

Dear Kelly H, Thanks for taking the time to post a review. I'm glad that you enjoyed the facilities but it is disappointing to hear about the noise and also how it was handled when you reported it - this is not our normal practice. I stay in the hotel a lot and in fact I think I have stayed in most rooms now. From your description it does sound like the A/C unit changing temperature as sometimes you do get a noise like water running. It is not normally loud enough for it to impact our guests and most of our guests comment on how quiet the rooms are. It would be really useful if you could contact me on h9448@accor.com with the details of your stay so I can have this double checked. Thanks again for your review. Kind regards, Jamie

« Super friendly, helpful staff. »

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel . We returned mainly due to the friendliness of the staff but also because we liked their dining room. My husband is partially disabled following a stroke a couple of years ago and is unable to walk very far unaided. Imagine our shock to be told the dining room was closed as they weren't busy!! They did have an arrangement with a couple of nearby restaurants offering 20% off on production of our room card. Had we known we would have booked somewhere else. I feel we should have been informed before hand. We couldn't even take a taxi as they were in a pedestrian only area! We will go back as I said the staff are delightful and the disabled room we had was perfect.

Dear Joan F, Firstly, thank you for returning to our hotel for a second time and for your kind comments about the team. We decided to close our restaurant a few months ago as there was no demand for it over the winter months. We do offer a 24 hour room service menu which our guests are welcome to have in the bar area. We have updated our website with this information but as a returning guest I appreciate you wouldn't have looked for this. We have so far negotiated discounts with 4 local restaurants all very close to the hotel. I appreciate your husband maybe couldn't walk to them but The Beer Kitchen is only 5 minutes in a taxi door to door. It's a great place to eat and they also serve some great local beers. If you show your Mercure key card you will receive 20% off your food bill. Once again, thank you for your review and please contact me directly next time you are planning to visit. Kind regards, Jamie

« Disappointing stay, didn't give the usual Accor servuce »

Not a great experience which is really surprising as I use this chain about 12 times per year. Very rushed check in, didn't get the silver member benefits. No toiletries in the room, except 2 small bottles, no clean glasses, very average room. However it was very clean and lots of fresh towels and lively bed linen. Shambles at check out, hotel was very busy as it was just before Xmas but only one receptionist on, lots of foreign guests looking for help...shame as this chain is usually fabulous, possibly just a blip with it being so busy.

Booked the "Privilege Room" Checking in was woeful, girl on the desk acting like she'd just woken up. Confusion over my breakfast being included, so had to literally show them my booking confirmation. Room was tiny for 2 adults and one child. Room smelled dusty and had numerous stains on the floor. Checked out after being there 3 hours and went somewhere decent closer to the centre.

I stay at this hotel a lot traveling to my home office. The only complaint I have is that most of your TV programs or stations do not work. The breakfast and room service was great. I would also like a do not disturb sign that I can use on the door.

Dear Richard, Thanks for a great review. I'm sorry to hear that you had problems with your TV - As this is an anonymous review, can I ask you to email us @ h9448@accor.com with your room number so I can get this looked at straight away. We do have do not disturb hangers in all of our rooms. They are normally hanging on the inside of your door handle. If this was missing then please accept my apologies and I will share this with our housekeeping department to avoid it happening in the future. Thanks again. Jamie

We had a very pleasant stay. The room was quiet and the bed was extremely comfortable. There is a really good coffee shop/restaurant round the corner, and the hotel was beautifully situated for our needs. We liked the security of using a room card to make the lift work.

« Expected better. No wow factor. »

Cons: Paid for privilege room and expected the 'wow' factor, which sadly was not delivered. View was terrible - metal vents and the roof. Room's of similar quality to Premier Inn which is much better value for money for same/better location. Carpet slightly worn/stained. Bathroom had some residue around the shower trims and part of bath panelling blistered/damaged. Mini bar not adequate for two people. Luxury toiletries seemed quite basic and on a par with standard ones provided elsewhere. Breakfast was buffet style which was surprising for the price paid and no difference in quality to more affordable establishments. A table service would be more in keeping with the hotels price range. Like many buffets they had the same problems - some of the bacon, sausages and beans became dry. Parking outside the hotel extremely expensive - around £2.40 for up to an hour, max 4 hours. Would have thought the hotel could negotiate free parking for up to 15 mins so customers can check in and drop off luggage. There is a car park a street away for £16/day on Semple Street but it's not accessible 24 hours (closed midnight to 6am) which wasn't a problem for us. Pros: Had a comfortable stay and excellent sleep. Hotel staff friendly and helpful. Entrance and breakfast room very stylish. Bath robes and slippers a nice touch. Haggis was very nice. Advice for hotel: Needs a more personal touch, table service and offer better value as above. Would we stay again: Not unless significantly cheaper, e.g. half the price otherwise will continue to stay at Premier Inn style hotels

Dear DrWilkinson, Thank you for posting a review on tripadvisor following your recent stay. I am dissapointed that you've left the hotel feeling like we had no 'Wow Factor'. I have taken all points on board and will share them with our team to help us improve our service level in the future. We do try our best to make guests feel welcome and I'm sure you can see from other reviews that we do it well. To upgrade to a privilege room it is an extra £20 per room. Included in this is bathrobes, slippers, complimentary soft drink mini bar, additional toiletries, Nespresso coffee machine, newspaper and a Smart TV. I personally believe that this is good value for money. I notice from your review that you normally stay in Premiere Inn hotels. May I suggest you to try an Ibis hotel as this is also a 3 star brand and part of the Accor family so the rates reflect this. I hope that despite your experience you will give us the opportunity to welcome you back again in the future. Best regards, Jamie

« Staying at Hotel Mercure Haymarket area in Edinburgh »

We stayed for 5 days in the Hotel Mercure and overall it was a satisfactory experience. We were allocated a room which was set up to support a disabled person (which we did not need),. The advantage was the room was much larger than normal but the shelf space in the room and en-suite was quite limited. Overall the room was very comfortable and we were quite happy to stay there for the duration of our stay. We did not have a breakfast option but booked breakfast for the 1st morning. Overall it was adequate but a better quality breakfast could be got just down the street approx. 100mt away so we did not have breakfast in the hotel again. The staff in the Hotel are pleasant and helpful and we had no issues. The location of the Hotel is good and approx. 1.5K from Princes St or the Royal mile so it was very accessible to the heart of Edinburgh city.

Dear edmondshiel, Thank you for reviewing your stay in Mercure Edinburgh Haymarket. I am glad that you had a nice stay in Edinburgh. Our disabled rooms are indeed bigger than all the other rooms as they are designed to accommodate a wheelchair user. You mentioned that the breakfast could improve, so if you have any suggestions how we can make our breakfast offer even more appealing, please do not hesitate to contact me directly. I wish you all the best and I hope you will choose Mercure Edinburgh Haymarket again upon your next visit. Kind regards, Kristof

« Nice stay »

We had a nice stay at Mercure Haymarket in July 2016. We did like the location. Lots of restaurants and shops nearby. The city was just a 20 minute walk away. The staff was very friendly and nice to us. The hotel was equipped with modern furnitures. we had a nice sleep and it was very quiet! The only 2 negative points we would like to explain are: 1) as we were in a privilege room the minibar or the coffee wasn't filled up twice. 2) the door to the toilet was even when we closed it partly opened ( due to sharing the cupboard and toilet door) . This was a bit unsatisfying. All in all we can recommend the hotel, but we may think of changing our room-class next time. Thanks for your warm welcome.

« An Ibis in disguise »

Good location close to Haymarket station and the Conference Centre, on a quiet side street. Small rooms felt like an upmarket Ibis: tiny work desk, no decent storage for clothing other than a hanger rack, and bare minimum bathroom amenities (including paper towels that looked like kitchen towels instead of Kleenex). Oddly the two elevators worked independently which means everybody would call them both, leading to many unnecessary stops at floors where people had already hopped on the other elevator. The lower level rooms are literally in the basement with very little natural lighting.
