« Positive, simple and friendly »

Our experience was a positive one. The staff were very friendly and when we asked for a double instead of a twin, this was granted. Air con and window opening access was great, as was the gym and location. The only issues were the pillows, they were uncomfortable. When we asked for alternatives we were told there was none. Also, there was a continious beeping on and off throughout our stay, we were informed this was air con, however it was annoying and loud.

I was in the second basement with the dirt laundry. If you don't have another place for your dirt laundry .... please don't mix with your clients.

Decent stay. Very comfortable and clean space. The only problem was that the shower gels provided was inadequate to shower both morning and evening.

« Great staff and a quiet comfortable room »

On arrival the staff team were very helpful and my room, at the back, was quiet, clean and very comfortable. There were a couple of could do betters - the water pressure in the shower was not strong enough (but hey, maybe I was helping the environment) and the scrambled egg was over-cooked and hard every day.

« Very comfortable rooms although a drawer to keep personal items in would have been appreciated. »

Staff were very helpful and obliging. Breakfast was well laid out with good variety of options but scrambled eggs need to be made in smaller batches. The scrambled eggs were very over cooked so standing in heated pan causes them to deteriorate very quickly. Room service need to check all fridges on checkout as I had half a bottle of milkshake and a part of a bottle of mineral in mine when I checked into room

The staff were very helpful on arrival. The room was clean and quiet. Just a few observations. The hotel is quite a way from Haymarket, so the walk with cases from the station was more challenging that I had expected. The water pressure in the room was barely adequate. And the scrambled egg at breakfast was almost too hard to eat.

Every single room of this hotel is dusty and it's not false accusation as I've shown the staffs so many times and my room was changed as a result, the excuse they all have is that maybe it's because of the cleaning product they use. All the curtains, bedsheets and towels are always dusty, you don't have to believe me just go and check for yourself at anytime. Also, I forgot to change my reservation this week to start from Tuesday instead of Monday, I spoke to the manager and told her that I've been staying there for months and that I have few more weeks booked in advance. I usually book weeks/Months in advance, you can check this on your system to see the fact, but she refused to amend my booking without charging me. I told her that I will cancel all my future booking and she was ok with that. I know the rules must be applied to everyone but I believe you could be more flexible to loyal customer. I've been staying at this hotel for months and I was going to stay there for another 6 months, but I cancelled all my future bookings and all colleagues agreed to do the same thing. I'm ok being charged 1 night and it won't hurt my finance but your hotel has also lost at least £35,000 - £45,000 revenue from me and my colleagues (yes I did the math), which I'm sure you will be ok with. The most upsetting thing that happen to me at this hotel is that one day last week I was going to the office in the morning and it was raining, so I asked to borrow an umbrella at reception, I was asked for a £10 deposit but I didn't have cash on me, so I asked the lady at the reception to leave a note on my room because I didn't have any cash on me and card isn't accepted to borrow an umbrella, she refused to let me have the umbrella and I had to walk in the rain to go to the office. They're were at least 5-7 umbrellas right next to her. I know you're asking yourself why did I stay there for months if the service was so bad? Because the location was perfect for me and I had hope that the hotel would listen and makes some changes and some employees were actually very nice but the bad customer service of your worst employees out-weight by far the excellent service of your best employees. Also, the heating doesn't work in most of the rooms

« Birthday stay »

Location was good for all of the places we wanted to visit during our trip and a short walk to the train station. Had to ask every day for extra towels as only one small towel provided per guest. Having long hair I needed an extra one to dry my hair. Fairly clean,basic room which was fine for what we wanted it for. Room was very cold and we couldn't change the temperature so I slept with a jumper on.

« Clean room with good facilities »

Mostly a good experience. I had a twin room. One of the wheels had gone on the bed so it wasn’t flat. The sliding door between the bathroom broke. When a member of staff was contacted the attended and did their best to resolve the issue. Breakfast was ok. I didn’t like the potato slices, very dry. Mini pastries were the high light.

Dear ahann07 Thank you for your feedback and comments with regards to your experience with us at The Mercure Edinburgh Haymarket.. I have to say that we are disappointed as a team to learn that your experience with us is not satisfactory .. I understand there is frustration with regards to cancellation charges, but as you mentioned rules apply to everyone. Having said that, if we were aware in advance of your intention to cancel the booking we would have done something about it. I.e change date to alternative and suitable travel date as we do with all our guests. With regards to dust, I am positive that our Housekeeping team service the rooms according to the required standard otherwise we would have received similar feedback from other guests. Furthermore, our linen & towels supplier are one of UK recognized company in terms of quality and adherence to Accor standard. Meanwhile, The umbrellas are available to all our guest(s) with a deposit of £10.00 regardless. I understand that we sometime need to be flexible but the number of umbrellas not returned is beyond and over the allocated figures.. I am sure you will agree that losing 2 to 3 umbrellas on a daily basis is not reflecting good on the business. I am truly sorry that you chose tripadvisor as the option to provide your feedback. I would have hoped to meet you personally to discuss your requirements and needs for your stays. In the meantime, I would encourage you and your colleague to continue booking with us and I will personally look after your requests moving forward. I take this review as a learning step to do better and I hope you can allow me and my team another opportunity to extend our hospitality further as I am positive we can turn things around very quickly. « Horrific. Unclean. »

Unclean rooms, dirty carpet, stains on sheets, hairs in bed in bathroom, broken light fixtures. Almost got double charged upon check in. Called to complain and was told I’d have to Wait on a manager, who would call back and he never did.

First night plumbing in 306 started to whistle at 05:00am and was intermittent for rest of the night - issue would appear to be with pressurised system on hot circuit side. Very loud which woke us. Staff moved us to 413 for second night when raised the issue. More comfortable night but did hear the high pitched tone "in the distance" but at a much lower level. Pity because everything else was good as I get at all Accor hotels.

I booked three priviledge rooms and paid for these rooms however my twin room was not a priviledge room but I still was charged for one. When I spoke to the lady on reception she was extremely unhelpful and said that was the cost of the room and that was it?! My colleague Steve Davis (who did have a priviledge room) was awake for most of the night with a horrendous screeching noise which is still unresolved. He has spoken with Khaled Ibrahim who was extremely unhelpful also and is waiting to speak to Oushan Deeljore.

« Pleasant but not without some problems »

The hotel itself is very nice and the staff are friendly, helpful and polite. The breakfast choice was also very good. The only issue we had was that our heating did not work in our room and we were given a portable heater to remedy this. Not sure why the heating couldn't be reset, but the room was quite cold without leaving the heater on for a long time.
