« It was clean, warm and in a good location »

The room was nice and the location great. There wasn’t any glasses in our room on arrival so I had to go down to the lobby to to ask and was given a pint glass instead of a smaller glass for water. On the whole however it was a good experience and the staff seemed very friendly and accommodating.

« Very poor cleaning standards »

Only one person at reception when i checked in another member of staff came and went several times and didn't assist the two customers (including myself waiting), eventually I shouted someone and they took my bag for left luggage. I checked in around 7.30pm no issues, I went straight to bed as had been a long day, in the morning I couldn't take a shower as it has clearly not been cleaned. I will forward a photo, upn closer inspection the wooden floor was dirty and carpet had not been hoovered.

i've been staying at the mercure haymarket for nearly 3 years now, it's a lovely, well run, clean and quiet hotel, tucked away, but not far from the centre of edinburgh. the staff are always helpful and cheerful.

Very good overall, loved the mattress and facilities in the room. Would like to suggest the smoking area outside the hotel to be moved as it is currently directly under bedroom windows. The cigarette smoke prevented us from having fresh air while not wishing to sleep with the AC on all night. We would like to come back to the Mercure at a later date. Our thanks to all the staff.

The bed and pillows were very hard and I was uncomfortable during my stay. I asked if there were alternative pillows and the hotel staff couldn't offer any solution. The breakfast was mediocre.

Very expensive and turned out good in some place poor in others. The breakfast is not worth getting, bad produce used, overcooked scrambled eggs and bacon, no fried eggs, discovered by chance that you could request them made up for you but not advertised. Also the shower made a horrible whistling noise

The staff could not have been more helpful. The breakfasts were of a very high standard and the room was most comfortable. The hotel is ideally situated not far from the Royal Mile and close to very good restaurants and train and bus routes

Room was very comfortable and generally very clean (319) but there were some minor stains on the carpet that i am sure would clean off with a shampooer and no dusting had been done photo frames top of lights etc but most noticibly there is a glass protector for the table and dust is underneath it apart from that the room and bathroom especially was immaculate. There was some tea/coffee 4 each with milk and sugar in the room but the tea was all flavoured no NORMAL tea at all it was more like a passing gesture than something thought out and i just found it unnecessary greed. I have stayed in places half the price with twice as much and more items to choose from like hot chocolate and biscuits.

The hotel is in a good location and my room was nice and quiet. In general it looked really clean except the shower area. I could see what I assume was some kind of anti-slip material on the bottom of the shower unit which looks a bit like sand on the floor. Unfortunately there were also several hairs and black bits which looked like dirt. I spoke to reception and asked if someone could give the shower a quick clean and was assured that would happen. I went out for the afternoon but when I returned it didn’t look like anything had changed. I ran the shower for a bit before getting in which alleviated most of the mess. Also, when I put the bath mat down there was a brown mark on it which by the morning was much bigger and darker. I can only assume this was something like fake tan which develops overnight. I mentioned it at reception when I left but they didn’t seem to understand that all this looks like the cleaning team aren’t doing their job properly. It’s such a shame because although the rest of the room looked clean, it made me wonder what else hadn’t been washed or cleaned properly.

« We were not pleased at all. »

For a $426 room, we didn't expect to have a L2 (basement) room. All we could see from our window was a wooden fence. It took three tries before they could get electronic keys that would work to access our room. The TV remote was missing and it took two tries before they could get one that worked. When a room costs $426 for one night, we shouldn't have been required to pay $20 for breakfast. We were very disappointed!
