« Nice room but not much in the way of bar or restaurant. »

The rooms are nice and to the modern Mercure standard. The lack of anywhere to eat or drink unless at certain times is annoying. I don’t know why they don’t just share the nice restaurant/bar at Ibis next door. Privilege rooms have a kitchen which is a nice extra for longer stays.

I have stayed at Grand Mercure before and I realised its a completely different to Mercure. The hotel was good apart from few asthetic stuffs like lifts need cleaning and generic cleanliness. Surprisingly Ibis @ Swanston was much more modern than Mercure for lesser price. So an average hotel I should say for the $140 a night tag.

The hotel was compact yet comfortable with a kitchen. The location was close to shops and transport and the room had views of the area. The staff were friendly also. The only downfall was the smell in the foyer. No lid for the fry pan and no gym or pool.

In a good spot for markets, DFOs, CBD retail, Southern Cross station etc. Rooms were clean and tidy, breakfast was great, good assortment of food, staff were helpful and gave us good advice.

There was blood on the toilet seat and tens of construction workers in the lobby along with students roaming the corridors with takeaway food and couples making out. I did not feel safe in the hotel and wanted to leave the minute I arrived.

Reception staff lovely HOWEVER received a call from reception at 12.30am asking if I was room 1020 (which I wasn't) and if I had ordered a wake up call at 5.30am (which I hadn't), the staff member seemed to keep asking me, when I had clearly communicated that I did not want it. I do not remember receiving an apology for the error and waking me up in the middle of the night.
