The hotel appears "tired" - the lift is small and dark and it seems better to not take it. There were not enough staff on and the dining room turned away people because tables were full but no one was getting their food in a timely manner and one table was just a bunch of loud drinkers. Our meal had multiple problems but the the woman from the front desk (who also had to serve as waitress!) was lovely and apologetic and took it off our bill but still the food took over an hour, the entree came out with the main, one main was completely wrong, the children's nuggets were not cooked and there was a bug in the salad. Simply not enough staff.

Room upgrade was nice. The room was large. However for a 4 star hotel and the price paid, the quality of the room, bathrooms and corridors could be upgraded - there were cracks on the door frames and in the bathroom. It was overall a clean place, good location.

Our room was dirty, the shower had other peoples stuff left in it. We had to go get spoons for coffee as had none in room. Power point under TV was unsafe and has wire hanging from it. We chose to stay with you as was close to hospital due to my grandson in ICU so really didn't need the extra stress. Told reception that we are not happy she didn't even care. the only thing she can do is make a note of it.

We have chosen the Mercure, North Melbourne, for our stays while my wife was treated at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Bed was comfy but the finish was ordinary. The feel of the place was old and looks like needs a redo. The lift was rattling and old. I have stayed in Mercure hotels before but this one felt really ordinary. Staff was lovely and helpful.

I travel every 2 weeks and just looking for a nice place to base myself for my Melbourne meetings. I like somewhere that doesn't feel tired and is comfortable. A place that is clean and doesn't remind me that I am just another person who has been in the room. Mercure North Melbourne was border line and disappointed with breakfast as half the items were not available as I was serving myself from the buffet

Reception was very good, elevator was disappointing, room was good but did not shield us from outside noise, room service was non-existent unless you vacate room by 10:30am each day, our room remained unserviced for three days, bed was comfortable, bathroom was OK but a little tight for two, pool/sauna were OK but sauna light was not working, dining was very good with prompt service and good quality food.
