luxurious surrounding but room smaller that the picture let me believe. i liked the quietness. i did not like the food served barely warm when it should have been hot. i did not like the missing glass on the dinner tray. the bathroom design had flaws leading to water going from the shower to the sink and to the WC. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.

I heard good things about the hotel, and was very much looking forward to my stay. Upon arrival, I enjoyed the spa, which was very relaxing. I had an incredibly long day of facilitation for the US Consulate of Rennes the next day, and so I was planning to get to bed early and be rested. Instead, as soon as I went to bed at 11pm, I realized that there were banging noises that could be heard in the room. They were sporadic (sometimes once every 2-3 minutes, at other times once every 10 minutes), and it took me some time to figure out where they were coming from. Finally, I thought that they may come from the little courtyard outside, and I stood by the window and waited to see what they could be. After about 5 minutes I saw the downstairs door open, someone walk out, throw a glass bottle into a recycling bin, and then slam the door behind him. This is when I realized that just downstairs of my room (number 109) was the back door to the restaurant of the hotel, and people used it to throw away the bottles and trash. By this time is was already 11:45pm and I decided to call the lobby. The person working understood the problem, but to be honest, wasn't very apologetic or understanding. He just said that the restaurant will close soon and it will stop. When I pointed out that they will probably be cleaning after they close the restaurant, he said that I was right, and that he will ask the staff to be quieter. I did notice that for about 20 minutes after this, the staff tried to be quieter, but eventually, they went back to throwing the bottles. My sleep was completely broken by then, and I didn't fall asleep until after 2am. I had to be awake at 6:30am with a day of 8 hours of facilitation ahead of me, and as you can imagine, I was exhausted. I told the woman in the lobby about my experience in the morning, and she was incredibly apologetic. She also gave me a discount on the room, but it still left me very disappointed with my experience.

« Lovely stay but could be even better »

It was my first stay at Balthazar and I really enjoyed it. The room was great and the staff very nice. A bit disappointed to find the sauna out of service and the ice fountain as well. Also I couldn't try the restaurant because it was full when I showed up. The staff should inform the clients of the hotel that it is advised to book for a table. It was a bit annoyed to have my dinner in my room twice in a raw.

Hotel rooms are well-appointed with great beds & pillow. The common areas are lovely! The lobby with a fireplace, variety of sitting areas, and delicious restaurant. The spa area is a fabulous way to spend an hour-- large hotel tub pool, steam, and sauna (which was not working at the time). An hour spa time is included in the room rate. The room also has some little amenities including beverages, coffee, late-night sweets, and full toiletries.

I stayed 2 nights in Balthazar hotel. The reception staff was very helpful on spa booking, restaurants and sightseeing recommendations. The pool spa was great and relax. The location was convenient to train station and sightseeing spots.

This is my second stay at this hotel which says that I already like it a lot. Very friendly staff everywhere. Nuxe amenities very appreciated. Breakfast of high quality and diversity. The location is perfect. Would love to stay there again. I had a special upgrade and the room was very nice.

« We were very pleased with our stay. »

Everyone was so helpful to us. The front desk helped us with train schedules, translating French into English when we needed it and explaining how to get to places we wanted to visit. The bartender who served us was very friendly, even went out of his way to talk to us (sometimes when we could tell he was busy). The room was so quiet, never heard any noises or loud conversations to disrupt our sleep.

« Modern Hotel with Great Service »

We usually visit Rennes for the day for shopping. This time we decided to stay overnight. We found the Balthazar Hotel on the Accor website and booked one night.The hotel is a little difficult to find in that it is located on a small street with signs that say busses only. However, as soon as we stopped on the sidewalk, a friendly young man was there to help with our luggage and to take care of the car (for a fee!). The check-in process was smooth and the receptionist accompanied us to our room. The room is modern, well lighted, comfortable with very nice beds and a lovely, large bathroom with both tub and shower, plus two sinks.We had a late night drink at the bar and enjoyed the bar tender creating wonderful cocktails with fruits and exotic liquors.Break was very nice with an omelet chef. The buffet was kept stocked and the coffee came right away. We had prepaid our room, so breakfast was included.Check-out was equally smooth, and again we were assisted loading our luggage and shopping bags into the car.All-in-all, a lovely experience.

« It was a perfect three days. »

Everything about our trip exceeded our expectations. The staff were friendly, helpful and always available. The breakfast buffet had plenty of choice, with the additional option of hot food from the chef. We ate in the restaurant on our final evening and enjoyed possibly the best meal, and also the most pricey one, we have ever had. On our other two evenings we followed recommendations from the hotel staff, one evening at The Tavern, the other at the Pecheurs. Both served excellent food. Our room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. I loved the Nuxe products in the generously sized bathroom. However it was the spa that blew me away! We enjoyed our free hour on two days, which helped us to leave Rennes feeling very relaxed and rested. This was our first experience of this hotel chain. We would definitely hope to repeat the experience!

It was as expected for a 5* hotel. The location was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. The room was of a good size and was enhanced by a balcony. We did not like the separate w.c. in a small cupboard with no washing facilities. We would also have expected a bidet in the shower room.
