My stay was not unsatisfactory due to a nasty receptionist. In brief, when I arrived on the Sunday 21 July there was a male receptionist (do not know the name because he was not wearing a name badge). He started by pointing out the room had been paid for but not the hotel tax. He told me the amount was Euros 5.85. I gave him Euros 7. He then very rudely gave me the change. Actually he used a very nasty trick of using the coins (I got a 1 euro coin and 10 cents back) to grind them into my hand. It is a trick nasty people use to show that they don't like you. I am Chinese by the way. That was the first thing I noted. Because he had ground the coins into the palm of my hand, I opened my palm to take a look at the mark he had left and noticed he had not given me Euro 1.15 back but only Euro 1.10. I pointed this out and instead of the receptionist apologising, he rudely said he did not have the change. So, let us review the situation. Instead of the receptionist being honest up front and telling me he had no change, he tried to cheat me and then take out his aggression on me. When caught, he was very rude and abrupt and did not apologise. Then... with a very nasty smirk on his face, he suggested I could use my debit card for the money instead. As you are no doubt aware, if we are international, that means we would have to pay charges. So to continue. In his rude, terse and abrupt manner as if now impatient, the receptionist told me the time for breakfast which he said was between 7-10am and the time for checking out. I started to write this down on the card which contained my room swipe card, and again this seemed to annoy the receptionist. He rudely and curtly told me the details were written on the inside of the card. Since I did not know that, I was angry that he was being so impatient. What did it matter to him anyway that I wrote it down. Finally, later, when I went to my room, I found there was not spare blanket. I get cold at night so i went down to ask for a spare blanket. In his usual unpleasant manner the receptionist said he would get me one. Which he did.....however, when he gave it to my room, he practically threw it at me while saying rudely HERE! So this receptionist is extremely bad and nasty as you can hear from my encounter with him. He is also not honest. Admittedly 5 cents is not much money, but you need to be honest and not try to cheat a guest. This receptionist needs to find another job since he clearly is not cut out for the hospitality industry.

Check-in experience was fine. Room was small, but adequate. Breakfast was great. Downside was that I had signed up for Le Club Gold at previous stay and was told this would provide a discount on my stay at Ibis Styles Amsterdam Amstel. I did not receive the discount and got no reply to my emails inquiring about it. When hotel was called, they referred me to Accor, who are not able to provide refunds for privately owned hotels. Not the best customer service experience.

First time in a canal house, it was very surprising and delightful, luckily on 3rd floor and not on 4th floor as daughter on crutches. Ideal location, easy access to transport system. Would stay here again

The hotel was very good - staff were very nice and helpful. The room contained everything which was needed other than an iron. The steep stairs to the attic rooms were the only drawback. The breakfast was good with plenty of choice.

Staff is nice. Breakfast good. But the room so narrow at the top (looks like at the roof) n there is no lift to my room (at 4th floor), just very tiny stair. So sad.

The room was clean and as described but there was little space. Sitting on the loo was a challenge due to proximity to walls! Lovely big windows which allowed for much appreciated fresh air. Breakfast was very canteen style and the buffet was very busy and cramped.

Tiny Room, everything else is more than okay

Our room was tiny and we had a view of a tiny inner courtyard. Several A/C's were installed directly in front of our window. The good about this: we did not hear any traffic and could sleep with an open window. I guess a tiny room is what you get for a reasonable price in Amsterdam, so this is not really a negative point. The A/C was less loud than I feared. Our breakfast was good and we had a nice selection of foods available. The coffee was good and the buffet was even refilled quickly when the breakfast room was overcrowded (One day we were there shortly after 7 and alone ;-) ). You can rent a bike at the neighboring Ibis hotel, one was an obike leftover and the other one was a typical Holland Bike. Both were technically perfect. The hotel location is perfect: just 3 minutes to the Canal tours or Heineken experience. The Market in De Pijp is just around the corner, the next tram station is just across the streets, a Lidl supermarket is just 50 Meters away and the old town is a walk of maybe 15 minutes. The Amstel River is only 150 Meters away. So our stay in Amsterdam was great value and fun. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. What more can you expect?
