I am a professor at a major American music conservatory. My partner and I were accompanying 10 students none of which spoke Portuguese. Your staff was extremely helpful. Breakfast was always delightful and the rooms are big and spacious and the location was perfect for our needs. I will stay there again for sure and tell everybody about my wonderful experience. Thanks to all the staff !

I had no issue with the service. The reason I gave a lower rating was when I checked into my room, 1101 I open the shower door to put some toiletries in and the door completely shattered and I had glass all over me. Fortunately I only have some small cuts.

A lovely 6 days at the Mercure Botafago in Rio. Very comfortable, all staff very friendly and helpful whenever we needed advice. A convenient location a brief walk from metro, making it very easy and quick to visit many parts of Rio. A view of the lit up Christ the Redeemer from the bedroom window. Great variety for breakfast. Only minor point, airconditioning blasted cold air at one bed, I suspect we just didn't turn it down enough. Otherwise excellent hotel and location, can highly recommend

The door, sofa and chair were very old. Sofa and chair seemed to be dirty. Had problems with the door to get in. Staff is nice, but the hotel needs urgently for a rennovation.

Breakfast was a bit simple comparing to Ibis hotels. Fitness room simple but good. Sauna was closed and nothing explaining. I asked if I could arrive earlier and used the pool and they took one day to answer. There was a problem with the hall/ corridor lights, but they fixed.

« We felt as the hotel tried to cheat us. »

We had pre-booked a Junior Suite with balcony for three nights via Booking.com We checked in late at night after long travel. Check-in at the hotel was quick and smooth. When we came to the room on the 11th floor, it was quite a big room, but it was more or less empty. There were a bed and one chair. No couch and no chair for the second guest to sit. The balcony was so small we could hardly pass by each other. We called reception about a second chair and got a feeling we were too bothersome to ask one more chair in the room. We got the chair after some time. The next day we where out sightseeing all day. When we arrived back at the hotel in the afternoon we asked if the room they have given to us was a Junior Suite. After some discussions we where offered a new room in the 5th floor. The receptionist told me she was going to move use to a suite. This made us wonder what room the gave us at check in. the new room had two chairs, a couch and a balcony we could use. The room was Ok but needs maintenance. We question why we have given the first lousy room probably not a suite despite this was what we had booked. The hotel was not full at the time we checked in so this could not have been the reason. This feeling of being cheated did not make us happy. Other than that the staff was kind and helpful but seemed to lack experience. Asking for a beer from the bar to the pool took forever if we did get the drinks at all. We had to go back and remind the waiter a couple of times.

« Disappointing experience »

I arrived at almost 1a.m after a long day of work on a business trip, and I was very well received by the employee on the reception, but my key card didn't work and after 2 tentatives, the employe on the reception called a security employee to open the room for me with a master key card, instead of giving me a new room. This made me feel very uncomfortable, because anytime I would get out of the room I would need to call someone to re-open it to me. Also the room is very old, the bathroom door is not painted, the floor have a lot of marks that looks like dirt and the air conditioning spilled water inside the room. The location of the hotel is very good, but I will avoid to go there again, because there are way better hotels in the city for the same rate of price.
