Despite booking 12 months in advance and reconfirming 2 weeks in advance, the rooms were not set up properly and we wadted 90 minutes of our day whilst the issue was resolved. Even more dusappointing was that the changes required for one room for the second might were not completed had I not checked at 7pm, my daughter and her husband would have returned from their wedding celebration to a cluttered room that hadn't been serviced and still with twin beds even after I'd highlighted this, water wasn't replenished nor were the towels replaced.

No shower gel or shampoo available as dispensers were empty, TV not working, some lighting not working and other lighting, particularly bathroom, inadequate to see what we were doing properly. Well over-priced and not at all any value for money.

The room was clean and comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

A nice time in a reasonably priced hotel. The food was good but a fairly restricted menu. Insufficient numbers of staff in the restaurant and therefore the service was slow. However the restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful.

Nice reception area, as expected from a 4 star hotel. Average check-in with pleasant enough staff. Was given a room number 1xx so asked if we could take a lift with our suitcase but was told there were no stairs, it was "down" to our room. Went along the corridor, and the surroundings gradually got a little shabbier as we went. Eventually found out our room was down a narrow ricketty staircase. The whole surroundings were completely different to the lovely fresh modern reception area. Like a different hotel. Got into room and it was OK. TV had lots of stations in the memory/menu, but only 4 worked. BBC1 & 2, ITV and channel 4. Nothing else. No news channel like Sky news or CNN, or even BBC News. Every hotel I have ever stayed in has had a news channel on the TV. Never mind, not really that important to see the news. Checked the dining options on the TV "Information" channel and found they did Pizza in the bar, so off we went to eat. Got to the bar. Sorry sir, no Pizza. Sigh. OK, ordered 2 meals and drinks. After half an hour, or so, one meal showed up. No condiments were offered and I had to go up to the bar and take them myself from a tray that was obviously for the staff to use. The other meal didnt show up and when I eventually asked about the missing one, was told I had not ordered it ! Why would I order one meal for 2 people ? My colleague even heard me order it and he was sitting about 15 to 20 feet away at the time. Anyway, I had no proof, no receipt, so I decided to order another meal. After 35 to 40 minutes I went back to barman and asked why it hadn't showed up. He apologised and went off to check. Came back and advised it would be right out. 5 minutes later it showed up. It was a burger and chips. The burger bun was was burned to a crisp. Actually Black and charred. The burger itself was way overcooked. It was ridiculous. So, as I had already paid in advance, we decided to ignore it not let it ruin our stay by having an arguement with the staff. Next morning, went to shower. Only one bath-towel was on the rack. Searched and found a second one in the wardrobe in the room. Strange. Same thing next day. One bath towel on the rack in bathroom. Thats fine, no problem, just a bit weird when you can see obviously 2 people were staying in the room with 2 single beds. Sunday night, decided we would be brave and risk having room service for our evening meal. Had to phone twice. First time it rang out. Second time someone eventually answered. Ordered 2 burgers & chips. Nice & simple. After 70 minutes, (Yes, an hour and 10 minutes) I rang again to see where was my food, as the guy taking my order said 20 to 25 minutes, and was told, sorry sir, you should have been told 45 minutes ! I mentioned the fact that it was now 70 minutes later and was offered a free drink as an apology. So, roll on another 10 minutes or so, and food arrives. I sign for it and waiter leaves. Start to pass out the plates and cutlery and realise there is no salt, pepper, sauces, vinegar, etc. Nothing at all. Grrrrr. So, off I go up thre ricketty stairs, and all the way up past the nice reception area to the restaurant. As I arrive at restaurant the waiter who delivered my food sees me and asks if all is OK. I explained and he went off to get me some condiments. After waiting a few minutes waiter hands me a plate with salt, pepper, vinegar and sauce, and asks me to bring it back to him ! So. thats a summary of my experience in a lovely 4 star Mercure hotel. It was supposed to be a nice luxurious treat, but was more like fawlty towers. Would I go back ? Not in a mad fit.

The hotel staff greeted us with a warm welcome, and booked us in swiftly. We tried to book a table for food to be told they was fully booked but we could try to eat in the bar later. We then went to our room to get freshened up, this is where things went downhill. The rooms bathroom had a strong smell of cigarette smoke which we mentioned to the reception when they called to ask how the room was. The lady on reception said she would send someone up with an air freshener. Not sure that would really get rid of the smell at this point. After freshening up we made our way to the bar to see if we could eat and the staff actually opened a side room for us to eat in as we was staying with 4 other people. Staff all along had been really helpful. The food we ordered was of poor standard, my wife and son had the vegetable curry which was very runny and served with a stale poppadom on top. I had a steak which was ok but the sides that came with it was very poor and cold, I also opted for the peppercorn sauce which was very runny, for a steak with sauce coming in at just under £30.00 this was not good value. The hotel staff (May have been the manager) agreed and removed the 2 curry’s from our bill. As we had a 10 year old child with us the hotel had made up the sofa bed in the room, this had very sharp edges on the leg supports and just from getting on the bed this cut his leg open, I made the staff aware of this as it looks like an issue with how the sofa beds are made. Once we actually tried to go to sleep it was very noticeable that the room itself smelt of smoke as the sofa had a strong odour when you laid on the sofa bed. Breakfast was ok, it was a buffet style where you get up and help yourself to the things you want. There was no fresh fruit available, coffee was in a decanter thermos and not fresh, the cooked breakfast had not been replenished from previous dinners and we had to keep asking the chef for food to be brought out. Putting all this together with our nights experience the hotel is not worth £189.00 a night and if you end up staying here you would be better off going out to eat. A good point to mention, we had a great view over the golf course and saw a woodpecker out the window in the evening.

We have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions and were disappointed with the recent stay. Our room did not have coffee making facilities and reception said they were fully booked and could not move our room. All I wanted was a coffee machine and didn't want to be moved, she was not helpful. Restaurant was overcrowded for breakfast on both days and my family had to sit at separate tables. No cutlery, no juice, no coffee and no staff anywhere to be found, mostly in the kitchen hiding.

A Real Joy staying here, The Staff couldn't do enough for My Son and Myself. The Front desk staff were absolutely brilliant so friendly and professional and really went the extra mile, Not least a fabulous 9-month pregnant Receptionist who raced upstairs, split a double bed into two singles and made them both. Outstanding Service. Would loved to have given a 10/10 BUT ..... I am disabled with two arthritic hips, spine and knuckles and You didn't have a lift just a very long staircase. My Son and I were staying as Delegates of the 2019 Convention of Jehovahs Witnesses. This Hotel Really helped to increase Our enjoyment of the weekend. Many Thanks Spencer W.

Negative stay, on arrival check in was straight forward, room was clean and well presented. When we took a shower, the basin overflowed making our shower cut short, my partner was also unable to shower until the basin drained which was an hour later. The evening meal was pleasant, food satisfactory and edible. There was a family fun day at the hotel, this put a negative stance on our stay and the staff were more focused on that event than hotel guests. The next morning, breakfast was a shambles. Everything was empty, no drinks, no pastries or toast, then buffet has been sat for some time and looked very unappealing. Mentioned feedback on checkout to be told the manager will be informed. Wouldn't stay again.

receptionist failed to swipe our card so couldn't charge anything to room no rolls with soup as advertised, needed to ask for them, no spoon to eat soup with , needed to ask for dessert supposed to have chocolate sauce but didn't, told waiter, waited, no response after he visited kitchen to get chocolate sauce , he just carried on setting tables, i asked another person to take dessert back and take off bill. breakfast , eggs were cold but i did get a fresh one when i asked no one told me I had to reserve a table for dinner at the time of booking and my package was hotel, dinner, breakfast, so we were fortunate to get a table apparantly, although only a few tables occupied

We were on a short break to visit family in the area. This hotel was central for our needs , staff were friendly , rooms were clean and breakfast was good ....what more was needed. Maybe just one thing, I found the payment method a bit disconcerting, where it at first appears one is paying again when leaving. Some greater explanation of procedure would have been useful
