« New Years Eve overnight package spoilt by a terrible meal and poor service. »

We complained about the quality of the meal at the event, my wife had ordered veal loin which she could not cut, when she asked for it to be changed the person who took it returned with lamb Wellington! This was overcooked as was mine though I managed to struggle through it. The service was patchy at best but got much worse as the evening progressed, tea was served post dessert to those who requested it, coffee did not come at all until after about twenty minutes we asked the staff who said they had just been giving people a chance to relax! During the clearing of the tables post midnight staff had removed their fancy dress and ŵere in their street clothes, one wearing an outdoor coat! My wife had a conversation with a gentleman, apparently one of the events team, at the reception desk and shared her concerns with him. He said he would adress her concerns and get back to us after the event......we are still waiting, ten days later. Meantime my wife has managed to have a telephone conversation with the General Manager who refused to accept our comments as being accurate as he was also there on the night and was in complete disagreement. He was very dismissive and made a point of saying that my wife was the only one who had returned a meal. This may well be true but it doesn't mean that everyone was happy with their meal, there were seven people on our table who passed various comments amongst themselves, particularly in regard to the service and that is quite a high percentage considering the total attending was approx 51. Your guest satisfaction survey is precluded with the statement "At Mercure, we are committed to providing a superior guest experience to each and every one of our customers" Sadly it seems the general manager does not subscribe to this. My wife had also sent an email echoing our thoughts and experience on the 2nd January to the Accor group, yet again we have not had a response? We attended the event the previous year and had a lovely time and returned with our friends this year who came on our recommendation! How disappointed we were, we will not be repeating the exercise.

Staff very polite and helpful. Room spotless however there was 3 of us only 1 dressing gown, 1 snack in fridge and 2 cups. Very warm in room.

I had an overall excellent stay at your hotel. The food was brilliant and all the staff I met were wonderful. From the blonde girl serving me at the front desk to the staff to the gentleman that saw me out. Paula Ferreira was a star. I would love to visit you again.

« Our stay was very unpleasant at this hotel »

I requested for a room with a view and for a happy birthday message to be left in the room (even if was a little card or something) but here was nothig. Furthermore, I booked a superior room as I was advise this included a king size bed, but upon arrival there were two single beds which had been pushed together?!? The bottle containing water on the desk was only half full and there was only one tumbler available. I had to request for additional tumblers, TV remote and towels during the night. Lastly there was no products in the bathroom I.e. Shampoo, conditioner etc- only one bar of soap (I'm sure there should've been more as displayed in the photos online).

Our overall stay was good, however the 'Grecian' themed night was a bi of a fiasco. At the start of dinner we all had to stand to welcome Ceasar! thought he was a Romam emperor, not Greek! The meal seemed to take for ever and the veal main course was very hard to cut, and another diner on our table sent hers back, it reappeared but as the lamb dish, with no explanation whatsoever. the gaps betwee courses was far too long, and the staff even started clearing some tables of their desert plates, and we had not evev had ours serverd! We had to ask for the coffee to be served, as we had waited over 30 minutes already. The disco was fairly good, but the countdown clocks on the TVmonitors kept going off, and there really should have been a link to Big Ben at midnight.

Enjoyed ourselves overall we hired conservatory for two days but not enough staff over the Christmas period we had to help to clear the tables as only one waitress left and felt sorry for her - 3 bedrooms were not cleaned and made up.

Amazing hotel with fantastic facilities. Staff were very friendly and attentive. We stayed for my partners Birthday and the staff went all out to ensure we had a wonderful experience. The hotel is imacuately clean and beautifully decorated. It is the best hotel chain we have stayed with and always choose Mercure. Mya on reception was lovely and very professional - thank you for a great stay :)

Hotel staff were very good at main reception. Room was very clean, and a good size! Bed was quite high, higher than normal of what we are used to but still comfortable. Car park very clean and easy to find. Bar staff were a bit slow and forgot our drinks so had to come and check with us, and took a long time to come. Disappointed the bar only stayed open until 10pm, as we didn't know this before we booked. The dining room was very very cold. The doors were left open overnight,and overall every time I went to sit there (both after check in around 3pm) and in the morning for breakfast (around 10am) we found it VERY COLD temperature wise, and the air conditioning was also mildly on. I mean, it snowed that night, so there was no need to have the air con turned on (heating perhaps instead?!?!) but all 5 of us found the bar/dining room very cold - so that would be my suggestion for you to improve in the future please. Overall, very nice stay. Only for one night as we drove up from London to see our family who lived in Milton Keynes. I would use your hotel again, good value for money.

...to reach the right standard. Stayed here with my wife and daughter (aged 11), between Christmas and New Year. The hotel is in a quiet location, at the end of a residential road, next to (and in part overlooking) a golf course. First impressions are good. The two storey hotel looks smart and reception staff are polite and efficient (although the first female member of staff seemed to think that dealing with some internal matter was of greater importance than greeting new guests). Our "previlige" room was on the first floor, with a view over the golf course. Everything in good condition, however the first impression is somewhat impaired because the fold out extra sofa bed almost completely blocks passage. An excellent and well equipped bathroom, with a jacuzzi bath. Amongst the extras that are advertised for "privilege" rooms are bathrobes and slippers, and a bottle of mineral water. After we'd showered, we eventually found one bathrobe in a wardrobe, where presumably it had lain for some days, unwrapped. In place of the mineral water was a note telling us that if we took the bottle away (what bottle?) we would have to pay a £10 charge. When a bottle was later delivered it turned out to be a bottle of tap water (or at best deionised water), in an unsealed, reusable bottle. Despite filling in the name of a newspaper (Telegraph) on our registration card, none was delivered to our room, and when one was again requested at breakfast, the hotel didn't have a copy. Another indication that routines need to be tightened was someone's old clothes tags in a bedside draw. If Mercure is charging extra for "privilege" rooms, it behoves them to make sure those extras are actually provided. The bar staff were friendly and helpful, going out of their way to produce iced tea for my daughter. The bar area was pleasant, with plenty of comfortable seating. Breakfast is buffet style, in the restaurant area beyond the bar. Hot food included fried eggs, sausages, bacon, hash browns, and rather nice vegetarian sausages. The chef was regularly topping up or replacing items as necessary. Here I would recommend that you read the menu before starting your breakfast, as there are other options cooked to order including kippers, and eggs Benedict, which I only noticed at the end of my meal. The quality of the breakfast was excellent. However, if two people at the same table both order coffee, why deliver two pots each holding two cups? By the second cup, the coffee is lukewarm. Deliver one pot, and let the guest ask for a another pot when they are ready. A nice hotel, but let down by not seeing things from the guests' viewpoint.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Accessiblity for wheelchair users isn’t bad but could be better. We were staying in a family room and only premium room big enough but had to get up 3 steps with wheelchair to access room.
