The room was more spacious and pleasing to the eye . I was not overaly impressed with breakfast , I came to have breakfast and was advised that the buffet was there . I did not want much and felt the $27 charge was pretty excessive. I was not impressed that I was not given the opportunity to have anything else - yet the breakfast menu provided in the rooms offered other things to select from.

The night’s stay I had was quite comfortable and was nice, however after a full day’s work I wanted to heat dinner in my room but couldn’t as there was no microwave. The addition of a microwave would be great.

Staff were perfectly friendly/professional and the bathroom looked newly renovated. However, the carpets in the restaurant and room were old and stained and there was a general smell of cigarette smoke in the room (I'm not sure if it was from guests smoking on the balconies or just leftover in the age of the property).

The Mercure Charlestown was a dated motel-style hotel just outside of Newcastle. From the large number of stairs leading to the room and the dated look of the room itself I started being disappointed. The room had a door leading to a balcony. The door and windows were so badly insulated I thought they were open from all the road noise I could hear. The bathroom has been untouched from the 90's at the earliest and the bath-shower head was way too low that I needed to stoop to have a shower. The toilet as well kept leaking after flushing and I needed to play around with the buttons to stop this. Additionally the water pressure was not particularly good. For internet why can't the hotel be updated so that you can connect with your room number and surname like other leading chains. Needing to call the desk is a nuisance and is old fashion. The only redeeming feature was the ample free parking which was the reason I booked the hotel. Next time I will fork out for the parking at the Ibis in Newcastle city center.

We have recently undergone renovations in many areas and with renovations still ongoing we are looking forward to sharing the end results with our guests. We have rooms with walk in showers and ground floor easy access rooms if preferred and available upon request and availability. I will be sure to have maintenance attend to the issues you have mentioned. We rarely receive noise complaints but for those who are sensitive to noise i recommend our King rooms located at the back of the property.
