The location is great for getting to Newcastle as well as the lake. The room was quite large and well equipped. the carpet needed a good vacuum and layout of the bathroom (toilet behind a folding door) could be improved but overall it is very good. quiet. the late night door situation is a little messy if you don't know.

When arriving we were greatly impressed with the surroundings, the Check In could not have been faulted, the staff were very friendly, the only slight negative was the stairs up from the Car Park.The room was very roomy, well laid out and with a good view, all in all we were very happy with our selection of the Mercure Charlestown.

« Disappointing Return Visit »

After spending a pleasant night here last year on our way home from Queensland we decided to stay a couple of nights this year so as to look around Newcastle. As Accor members we booked through their website some 5 months prior to checking in. On arrival they did not acknowledge that we were members and was asked if we had booked the room earlier that day. Having stayed at dozens of Mecure Hotels throughout the world, this establishment did not meet the standard that we would expect from this chain

Very 'tired' Accor property saved by a good restaurant! Room was very run down with rotted door and fittings in Spa area...shower hose leaked profusely and an attempted repair had been made with silver masking tape. No welcome amenity was provided as a Platinum Accor member (now the third time this has been experienced at this property...they just ignore loyalty customers it seems). Only stayed at the property for the restaurant but a nearby hotel (Non Accor) has offered a good business rate so may consider staying off site and eating at the restaurant from now on.

Convenient to everywhere, 2 major shopping centers, Lake, Ocean, Beaches, Wineries, oh did I mention the shopping haha. Good Hotel, great staff, good breakfasts what more do you want, only complaint - the pillows and with the shopping so close we bought some, Problem solved

We had been to this location before and are happy to return again if in this area. Staff are friendly and property lovely to stay at. Rooms are clean and large, the welcome drinks made us feel at home

Staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant food was good but we waited over 30 mins for our meal. The rooms are just a basic hotel style room, the bathroom are tired and in need of a uplift. For a one or two night stay it is ok

Though we only stayed for a short while, this property suited our needs. Perfect if you just need a bed for the night, not a great property to hang out at.The rates reflects this. A little tired on the outside, but the renovations inside are great. Lovely well kept rooms. A little noisy during peak times of cars in and out as the room windows are just near the car park. A car is preferable as a good walk from anything.

I read a few reviews and nearly didn’t stay here, but I’m so glad I did. The staff were all friendly and professional and no request to hard for them. The rooms were clean and contained everything needed. I stayed four days and the position was ideal, easy parking, and close to shops. Restaurant was outstanding.

Really nice hotel for all the family. Rooms and facilities were all very clean. The family room was oversized and very comfortable, 1 queen bed and 3 single beds and still very spacious. Lovely staff, very helpful.

Lovely set out of family room with 3 single beds & a queen bed. Very roomy. The food was delicious. My son loved the spaghetti and said it was the best! Small & efficient swimming pool. Cinema & shopping centre near by.

« Good solid hotel...nothing special »

The hotel was nice and had an added bonus of complimentary water bottles and mints in the room. The air conditioner needed dusting in a big way (could see the dust on the top and all over the vents - not so nice for breathing at night). The restaurant had really good food and a great breakfast,. The front desk staff on check-in not able to help with basic public transport info to the Newcastle 500 but try to see us outrageously priced shuttles for $30 per person (more than a taxi or uber). We found the information we needed online though. Great free wi-fi. Sheets and towels crisp and clean.

« It's almost a new motel »

Wow. This motel has had a face lift and it looks great. The mouldy smell is gone and there is new carpet in the hallways. The foyer looks great along with some of the sitting areas. It isn't quite finished yet but a huge improvement. Staff were very accommodating to my needs. Breakfast selection was varied and I love the pancake machine.

Booked hotel on Accor plus private members' offer. Excellent value with breakfast included. Comfortable bed and had a quiet room in spite of hotel's location near the Pacific highway. Ample car parking spaces.

« The worst Accor Hotel I ever stayed »

I have no choice but to call this hotel the worst Accor hotel I have ever visited in my life. I stayed in EXECUTIVE ROOM : the room included : cracked door, cracked basin, paint falling of the bathroom walls and ceiling, holes and stains in the carpet. Air-conditioning is so dirty that it causes serious danger to people’s health and it needs to be reported to NSW Health and Safety Authority. Carpet stained but what was more shocking, there were spider webs in the corners of that room. During shower, probably due to humidity caused by the water being used, the pieces of paint from the celling dropped on my head. I must admit, that was one big sickening, traumatic shower experience. I went back downstairs to check if I was really in the right hotel and if I was accommodated in the Executive Room. Unfortunately, to my disbelief, the receptionists confirmed that the room I was given was indeed the Executive Room and yes, this is hotel is indeed 4-star Mercure Accor Hotel. SERVICE : there was only one Receptionist, who seemed to be responsible for everything – she checked us in, she prepared drinks at the bar, she took our room service order and she also checked us out on the next day. This person gave us an impression that she was the only staff member in that hotel. RESTAURANT: open for dinner for only 2 hours, till 8 pm (room service till 9 pm). BREAKFAST: it was one of the worst we ever had anywhere. There was no single piece of fresh vegetables or anything fresh for that instance, no cold cut meats choice, no smoked salmon or even cheeses selection. Coffee in old jars which were so old and dirty that it was disgusting to even touch it. I ended up paying extra to have a coffee for breakfast. The overall feel was as if we stayed in a low-budget, shoddy motel, where our survival skills were being put to the test. Please note, this hotel is rated 4 stars on Accor website. Star rating is an agreement between you and your guests in relation to standards: your standards and standards expected by your guests. Having my comments and photographs to your disposal, please advise if this is indeed what you recognize as Le Club AccorHotels standard of 4 star accommodation? Dear Le Club AccorHotels, my humble advise, save yourself from all future embarrassment, not to mention misleading your members, please remove subjected hotel from your listing, or at least adjust its star ranking. You should be extremely ashamed to have this facility under your brand.

great location, great views, room was lovely, spa was great, breakfast was great plenty of food i didn't have to have lunch, even through they were renovating it was clean and tidy even the gardens were nice to walk around in the morning
