A great place to stay with wineries and whale watching nearby. We had a lovely apartment which was nicely furnished and clean. The restaurant got very busy and it was quite difficult to get a table so need to book.

Never received our welcome drinks while checking in. Had to call and ask about it on the last night and felt as though we were after another set of drinks when we never received any. Service seemed slow throughout the stay, called housekeeping multiple times throughout the stay without anyone picking up at any time.

We always enjoyed our Bunker Bay breaks over the years. The last two years have been an eye opener as we experienced improvements beyond believe. From check-in to check-out and everything in between - just perfect. We experienced real professionalism and REAL friendliness from staff in all departments. One very wonderful improvement is the new chef at the "The other side of the Moon" restaurant. The kitchen now provides such wonderful spiced food as compared to the habit of over-salting everything. So here it goes: Thank you to the GM, the Chef and his/her team in the kitchen and all the others that made our stay so super. Esther and Gerard

Pleasant, relaxing, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. It was a surprise not to be able to drive to our unit/villa, particularly with my wife having mobility issues, however this was not a problem, the staff were familiar/accustomed to the situation.

Resort was lovely. Bottled water in the rooms was missing for the price. Also waiting 20 minutes for a coffee at breakfast when it wasn’t very busy was a bit too long and long wait for cocktails. Otherwise staff were lovely.

We found that the Pullman at Bunker Bay, the service standards are below par, and definitely not what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. We had numerous issues with staff and communication during our stay. It seemed as though all staff were new and hadn't been given appropriate training. - At 3pm check-in, the room still wasn't ready. It was really busy at reception and no staff to direct guests where they should be waiting. When we finally checked-in our complimentary bottle of wine was no where to be found. - At breakfast, no one welcome us or said good morning. A lady behind the desk just stared at me, so I gave her my room number and she said “sit anywhere”. No run down of how the breakfast works. The fact that you can request freshly cooked eggs would have been great to know as I am pregnant. The lady did offer to get us a highchair, but once again, why wouldn’t she point out that inside there is a corner dedicated to kids with toys etc. perfect for toddlers. We only stumbled across this upon checkout. The hot food section was cold by 7:20am. It was underwhelming in general, so we didn’t bother trying the room service or dining options. They are quite expensive and we had a feeling we would be disappointed. - Our room wasn't cleaned after the first night. After the second night, a note was left saying "we noticed you didn't want to be disturbed so haven't cleaned your room", when in actual fact the “DO NOT DISTURB” sign was inside our room the whole time, and we weren’t there. If this is a normal process, why wouldn’t they leave a note the first day too when they were unable to clean our room? - Our 2 x welcome drinks we were given the run around as staff were requesting a pink slip, which we hadn’t been given. And then waited for half an hour for them to be brought to us. - We didn’t realise that DVD players had been phased out at the hotel since we originally booked. We purchased our own DVD’s before going to make sure we had something to watch while I child napped during the day. When we checked in we called reception to ask where the DVD player was as we couldn’t find it only to be told the room no longer had one. The most annoying part, was when we mentioned this again to staff the following day, they said. “We have some here you can use, you just need to ask at reception”. Why weren’t we offered this the previous day? - The pool area could use some music, or more comfortable chairs, some form of poolside service. I would be disappointed if I had booked direct and had paid the full price. These aren’t major issues, but just frustrating. Not once did anyone apologise for the inconvenience, the wait, confusion, delay… So many blank faces and no real regard for basic customer service. Even upon check-out, we weren’t asked “How was your stay?”. Maybe staff are too scared to ask… The rooms are lovely and spacious, pool is divine at 26 degrees. It is such a lovely location. With some simple improvements to staff training, this would have been much more of a “Luxury Escape”.

We had a easy check in and great assistance with all our luggage down to our room by Dan ? A young employee from Manchester,UK. Our Lakeside room was good and catching up with our family to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary very enjoyable. A lovely bottle of Bubbly with a small cake from the Chef on a tray with local flowers as a suprise gift from the hotel with a card !! Many thanks to Kyra and Romany

A mixed experience. Checkin was somewhat bizarre - there was no-one outside the front of the hotel to meet/greet us when we arrived and parked our car right outside the reception. Despite lugging all the suitcases into the lobby ourselves we still needed to approach the check-in counter before we met anyone who said hello. For a relatively high-end resort that was a bizarre and unwelcoming start - I've never experienced that in any similarly rated resorts before. Checkin receptionist was warm and friendly (I forget her name) but literally the very first comments I received were negative about the web check in process (ie 'doesn't work well for us') - she then struggled to locate our booking at all (the reservation had been saved under my forename vs surname for some reason). Given I had already checked in online and had expected to simply pick up keys on the way to our room this was somewhat disconcerting and added undue stress. That said the receptionist was super warm and friendly as noted and this added some compensation. In addition we had been upgraded to a beautiful suite so that was also a very nice and very appreciated touch. Getting the bags onto the buggy was an interesting experience - in all similar hotels the staff are there to load these up automatically - we were left to move these ourselves / help the concierge who was seemingly performing multiple roles at this point. This was an over-riding theme - ie the hotel appears to be operating quite lean and this impacted the quality and smoothness of the checkin process. The concierge was a lovely guy (Shane) who showed us a personalised map of the area, highlighting places to visit/eat etc. The suite was lovely as mentioned but there was no bottled water - we ended up buying our own. Possibly the worst element of our stay was the shower - it literally took 5 minutes each time to correctly balance the flow of hot and cold water (given the response to each turn of the tap in water temperature was extremely slow). Water pressure was poor too. Some of the fixtures/fittings were a little tired - eg paint/laminate on the bottom of the bathroom door had frayed/decayed somewhat. Living space and bedrooms were wonderful and TVs were good size. Food - breakfast was decent, the one dinner we had was another mixed experience - food was great but we were given the wrong pottle of Pierro wine (cab sauv/merlot vs pinot we had ordered) - given we had already accepted the wine and started to drink it (although we weren't offered a tasting before the pour) we didn't make a fuss but again that was an unusual error. On the flip side, the staff were always warm and friendly and couldn't do enough to help us. We moved tables from outside to indoors when the evening air turned a little chilly (the staff were super helpful and patient with us whilst visibly busy elsewhere), but the fact that there was bird faeces everywhere was a factor as well. One last suggestion - the casual dining menu was a little tired and limited in choice - would strongly recommend updating the menu with more options, the shared plates were relatively dull in options as well (we instead went for the chicken gnocchi and beef rib which were both delicious). Overall enjoyed the resort and would consider a return given (at the moment) other alternatives in this category are (seemingly) not readily available.
