« Well located hotel in Newcastle »

A good property within walking distance of the heart of Newcastle. Excellent on site parking at no extra cost. Unfortunately the restaurant staff did not understand the restaurant menu booking even though staff had called to confirm which night we wished to utilise that booking option.

« Mostly positive experience. »

Desk staff are very friendly and helpful, much better than other hotels in Newcastle. Rooms are clean most of the time, but housekeeping can sometimes be hit or miss. Most of the time they restock milk, tea etc or provide fresh towels, but sometimes they don't. I often find dirty glasses and just wash them myself. Room Service menu has not been changed in a while.

The experience was fine. The only exception was that the sheets had a strong aroma of bleach or whatever cleaning agent is used on the linens.

« Relaxing break right in the heart of Newcastle »

It was relaxing. Room was a good size & comfortable. We had a somewhat distant view of the ocean. The spa was nice & warm & oh so relaxing although the jets weren’t working. Food was superb.

« Fabulous even though it was raining. »

We had to check it late which was fine as we were compensated with free parking for the 2 days. Bed was very comfy and room was warm. More shower pressure would have been great.

« Solid without being amazing »

Solid try however when checking in the rooms aircon was on 22 so the room was cold and in the 2nd day I checked the mini bar and the bottle of red was missing so I informed the front desk . I shouldn’t have to explain it wasn’t there

« Fantastic Staff »

From the minute we arrived the reception staff made us feel very welcome and were very helpful. Our room was ideal, with an amazingly comfortable bed. The room staff were cheerful and nothing was too much trouble. Last of all, the restaurant/bar was staffed by top employees. To be honest, the only thing that I would change are the lounges in the entry -- they are too low and not all that comfortable if you sit in them for any length of time. Our stay was a lovely experience.

I am trying hard to find reasons to come back. I am sorry to give such scathing feedback because this has been my favourite venue for many years of coming to Newcastle on business. Staff are very friendly, but the professionalism is dropping. My room smelt stale on arrival - like it has been cleaned with a dirty mop. The bathroom looked like my teenage son had cleaned it. The mirrror was wiped with a dirty towel and the shower needs a good scrub and some domestos. The common area carpets are dirty and walls need a paint. The food used to be outstanding in this hotel, I used to look forward to coming to the Novotel for the delicious room service meals, both dinner and breakfast. The last few times I have come, the food is amateurish and tasteless. After my awful lamb shanks, I didn't even bother ordering breakfast, I went to a local cafe. I am increasingly staying at the Crown Plaza / Rydges - which is disappointing as I love the location of the Novotel. My former colleagues at Mercer no longer come to the Novotel for the same reason. We all want to stay here, but your standards have dropped significantly. Please get a new chef and audit housekeeping standards.
