Very easy access from Sydney Airport via rail and walkable distance to Opera House, circular Quay and The Rocks. Staff friendly and attentive in every department. Room very comfortable and well appointed.

Booked my complimentary night and paid for upgrade to King Hyde Park view room. Decided to stay 2 nights ( my husband was having day surgery at the eye hospital) so I booked the same room type. Checked in online and phoned hotel to request my reservations be joined together so we do not need to change rooms. I was informed that would be fine and they could see my reservations via my membership. Whilst checking in the receptionist commented " you are staying the one night" I replied we were staying 2 nights and explained again my request to not have to move rooms, ( I also informed her about my previous phone conversation.) I was again informed this will be fine and she will check with the manager. The next day on return from the hospital after eye surgery our key did not work. We went to reception to let them know and upon checking was Pompously Informed my key did not work because " Check Out was at 11am Madame". Once again I had to inform reception that we were staying 2 nights and needed our room so my husband could rest after his eye surgery. Our keys were reinstated and we went to our room. About 10 to 15 mins later there was a knock on our door and when I answered the hotel attendant asked when was I going to check out, again I had to let him know we were staying 2 nights and he should speak to reception. I then decided to phone reception myself. I told the girl all that had occurred since my phone call after online check in and I commented that I can understand 1 mistake with a customer but this was continuing and not what I would expect from a 5 star hotel we had a conversation and she agreed it was not acceptable and apologised for the constant errors. I was told that she would be talking to her manager to see what could be done and she would get the manager to phone me personally. I replied that would be fine as we were not going anywhere for the rest of the day so would be available. We have still not heard from the Manager or anyone else. The next morning we had to return to the hospital and we got back to the hotel about 9.54 am and asked at reception where breakfast was served, we were informed it was closing in about 6 mins so I requested a late checkout as we would need to find somewhere else to dine. we were given a 12pm checkout and our keys were reprogrammed. On arrival back to the hotel about 11.50am our room keys again did not work so someone from reception had to escort us up to our room to let us in to collect our belongings. Needless to say we will NEVER stay at this property again and would highly advise family, friends, work collegues and aquaintainces to stay elsewhere. During each of my conversations with the staff I asked them to make sure I have my reservation joined to make sure I receive my points for staying 2 nights. I was informed that this has happened so I am hopefull this will not be forgotten.

The hotel and room itself was fine. I stay here consistently and like the consistency of the hotel and its facilities. I am eternally disappointed at the staff in Cafe36. In particular Urgurcan(?) who was working Thursday 7th March in the morning between 8am and 10am. He is consistently rude to customers, avoids serving people, cannot deal with making more than two coffee's at any one time, and seems permanently stuck behind the counter and aggressive or angry. Last Thursday I had to go to the counter to order my coffee to have during my breakfast meeting with a client because he was (as always) 'too busy' to serve. To be clear there were 5 people in total across three tables in the cafe at the time... none of whom were being served. He did not attend to my table other than to deliver my coffee, he never returned with menu's as he said he would (often an occurrence with him), to the point my client had to leave without breakfast. When my client asked for a glass of water he told her to go and get it at the counter. After my client left at 9am there was still no service from Urgucan and so eventually I went to him at 9:05am to order my breakfast which he simply nodded to and provided no verbal acknowledgement. At 9:25am he walked past my table and asked me "it was the scrambled eggs you wanted wasn't it?". At 9:45am I still had not received my breakfast and had to leave for another meeting. Upon advising Urgucan that I needed to leave he again became irritated, said this meant he would have to cancel the order, he couldn't find his card to do so and in an unpleasant tone advised me that "I should just leave" even without paying for my espresso! Having experienced this young man behave like this before I have had enough of his appalling service. I also recall one day where he yelled at a air crew member from (I think) Air Canada because she asked for her coffee in a takeaway cup while he was making it... to be clear he had not yet even selected a cup for her, but he felt it necessary to tell her off! While he is not alone in Cafe36, he is by far the worst. Many of the staff that work in Cafe36 in the mornings in particular struggle to provide even the most basic service to your customers. As the cafe is essentially the 'shop front' to your hotel, and you are a five star hotel that we are paying for I believe you need to know that this is occurring, as it damages your brand and people like my client are very clear that they will never meet there again. I for one will never eat breakfast in Cafe36 again as long as he is serving there. This means next week my team and I will have breakfast outside the hotel simply to remove this unnecessarily unpleasant experience. If you would like to speak to me about this directly, I am happy to have the conversation over the phone or when I check in next Tuesday in person.

Very accessible from airport via train with only short walk from nearest train station. Central for Sydney sights - even walkable from Opera House. Reception staff attentive and friendly as were dining and bar staff. Room spacious and well appointed.

Pool, staff, location and breakfast excellent! Hotel Reception and Room not 5 star. Initially given a room on the 14th floor, which was very dated and shabby, no coffee machine and no USB port to change phones etc.. moved to a room on the 18th floor which was much better.

« A mixed bag »

This is the second time I've stayed at this hotel and it's nice to see it now the refurbishments have been completed. The rooms look a lot better and the views are generally still great. The foyer has also been improved and it was a great touch having infused, chilled water in the lobby plus the Mardi Gras decorated-horse. Being close to main streets and hospitals made nights a bit noisy with all the sirens, fortunately, I brought earplugs. I also asked for a room away from the lifts but got a room right next to the lifts.

« Right in the heart of the city but very quiet location »

The hotel room was large and the customer service people were courteous. The only downside was there wasn't enough chairs in the rooftop pool. Maybe have some small chairs when the sun lounges are all occupied.

I was very happy with quick response whether it was room service or request to have my room serviced in a short time span. The room was clean, check in and check out was efficient. Crowd management during Mardi Gras was efficient. The only negative experience was your gym. I have been coming to this property almost every year as far back as when it was ran by Marriott. The gym was always mediocre even taking into consideration the limited space, I note that this year some very welcome upgrades were made to gym. The cardiovascular machines are an improvement but the other machine with the "straps" I found not to be user friendly. I go to numerous hotel gyms a year and sadly this gym is among the worst. I note that other users were not sure how to use the equipment. Rather a Dual Adjustable Pulley might have been a better alternative but I suspect the hotel did its research and this was the most appropriate equipment for the space. However, other than gym, my experience of the hotel was a very good one - which is why I keep coming back every year.

I booked one month out of our stay & selected the Pullman because of proximity to a function we were attending & I spoke with reservations and they advised hey have a suitably accessible room for me. When we arrived to check in the process was seamless until I confirmed the room was accessible. The notes were not read & there was no accessible room assigned The duty manager was consulted & in the interim wait I asked to use an accessible bathroom. The concierge escorted me to the bathroom however the door opened in and there was no way I could get in and close the door. It was a nightmare. in the meantime I had a room assigned to me that was supposedly accessible however i could barely get the chair in that bathroom & the toilet was behind the door which again was unable to be closed with me in it. Now absolutely beside myself and now 1/2hr late for the function we were attending. We left with the concierge to find a suitable room for when we returned. Off to a really poor start!
