I am not satisfied at all with the state of the hotel, the front door and lift stop working at some points, every where was really dirty and smells. I honestly need my money back because the stay caused me discomfort instead of comfort

« Disappointing, I expect better.... »

I stay at Ibis Styles often travelling up and down France and I've become used to a certain standard. Reliably good quality, edgy design and a decent price.The Styles at Excel felt like a poor standard Ibis. Nothing distinctive about this hotel. Rather run down. Renovation work being undertaken but no warning of this when i booked. The floor i was on had half the carpet covered and taped and the other half covered in dusty builders foot prints.The bathroom was about the worst I have used in any Ibis.This wasn't a Styles. It was a run down poor Ibis masquerading as a Styles. Oh, in all ways but one; price. A healthy £160 makes it more than twice what I pay in France and £30 more than I pay at the very smart Hilton in Greenwich.

« Great rooms, awful customer service »

Loved the rooms (large 2-bed suite and a family room) - perfect for our large group. Good location and breakfast. Check out experience absolutely awful, told the staff member (Hannah, a trainee) that I had already paid (repeated this on several occasions) and she charged me again anyway, saying that no, my card had just been authorised. Obviously this was wrong and it took ages to get this refunded. Also took ages to print a receipt. I was checking out for about half an hour in the end. Worst was that when the mistake was discovered, Hannah took exception to me/ my husband pointing out her error and shouted in my husband’s face repeatedly. Several guests told her (including us) that this was unacceptable but she didn’t stop, nor did any other colleague intervene. It was completely unprovoked and ridiculous. She needs proper training and fast, the manager needs to have a word with her about how to deal with guests.

« Run down hotel rooms, great staff! »

We booked a suite and a twin room, the ‘suite’ that we were given was awful! Room 006 was like a staff room with a bed in it! It was below ground, cold, broken heating window wouldn’t close, horrible lowered ceiling with strip lighting, very depressing. We asked for a different room and were put in 015, which was a bit like an office! It was huge, but again awful decor, leaking shower, shabby carpet. The other room was for my father on the 5th floor, it was run down but generally okay apart from the noisy building work going on it the rooms next door! Breakfast was good, all of the staff were very helpful and efficient, but the state of the rooms let it down. The emergency fire exits were all wedged open for the whole of our visit, which made us feel a bit unsafe, and the fire doors were totally unsuitable!

Given a refurbished room, lovely. Unfortunately the electric tripped at about 11pm, contacted reception who immediately gave us keys to room opposite, also refurbished. This was front of hotel and despite being on 5th floor was noisy from the traffic outside.

If it wasnt for the high price it wouldn't have seemed a bad deal. The heating didn't work and it was a very cold night. There were builders in early the next morning who were drilling and making a mess.

« A Game of two halfs »

I stayed for two nights but requested a new room for the Second Night. My first room, 415, had several issues. First was the door lock. At 10pm I tried to get into the room but the key wouldn't work. It was another half hour before I could get into the room with help from staff. I was eventually advised that if it happened again I should "hit the lock" as the batteries were loose. The room was very cold due to a large crack in the wall under the window letting cold outside air into the room. To make matters worse, I couldn't get the heating to work. The door to the shower-room was not fitted correctly so was very difficult to shut. The above led to a terrible nights sleep but I decided to deal with it in the morning as it was so late and I just wanted to sleep. Reception staff the next day promised to get me a new room for the second night and looked after my bag for the day. I returned later and was gicen room 443 which was refurbished. My new room was much nicer, warm with no broken fittings or fixtures. I have no complaints about my second night. I don't really have any complaints about the staff who tried to help the best they could and found me a better room for the second night. That said I received no meaningful apology for a night in a room that was not fit for purpose anf the disruption caused. I paid the full price for the stay. Not even an offer of extra reward points to say sorry which is disappointing and not really satisfactory. I had very little time to argue these point while at the hotel due to my schedule. I arrived late evening both nights and left for work in the mornings with just enough time to checkout or request a room change. I think you could have done better by me.

« Room was old, Staff was very good »

The room was old but renovated. Only it was still visible it was old. I would usually not pay 140 GBP per night for this quality. However, it was a trade show at ExCel across the street (hotel very conveniently located). The hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful during my whole stay. Staff and food in the in-house pub was nice, too.

« No window! »

Could have been better. Having asked for a room on an upper floor surely indicated I'd like some sort or view from my window? Or even a window? But no, my room had no window, just a small skylight some 3 metres above floor level. I would expect it to be a room perfect to sleep the hotel staff but not paying guests. That aside, the room was adequate and clean with a comfortable bed and hot shower. The lighting was poor and not good for reading by. Breakfast was a noisy scrum with not a good selection. I primarily chose the hotel for its location close to the DLR and as a convenient base to attend various venues from, which worked well and prevented me giving a lower rating that I have for my overall stay.

The room was very basic, but saying that, it did have everything you would want. I couldn't get the heating to work, but fortunately it wasn't to cold. The room was clean, the shower was good and for breakfast there was plenty to choose from and the member of Staff welcoming you into breakfast was very friendly and professional.

The staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating. The hotel was slightly Care worn and there were notices indicating that a refurbishment programme was underway. The bathroom was a little cramped for me. The location was perfect for our meeting with friends at the O2 NTP tennis finals. The bed was comfortable and we slept well.

« The Worst Hotel I Have Ever Stayed In »

The most dated and disgusting hotel I have ever stayed in. The room was like staying in a caravan, with a bathroom made from plastic, no proper shower, not even a real door handle. I was kept awake all night by the heater which was not even switched on. Sounded like a leaky radiator. The breakfast, if you could even call it that was simply vile. everything had a strange and unpleasant taste. Even the orange juice tasted off. The breakfast consisted of three hot things, hardly an English fry up like it is advertised. As long as I have breathe in my lungs I will never stay in another Ibis hotel again. I have never hated my stay in a hotel as much I had this one.
