Nice place to stay but expected better. It all looks a bit run down and untidy especially the garden around the restaurant looking out onto a very unkempt courtyard area. Nothing at all in the fridge except some long life milk, not even some water. Very disappointing considering the price we paid. One positive the breakfast was wonderful and the girl who greeted us very friendly and efficient!

Very helpful with my booking and check in. Lovely setting. Room was good on first impression. The view outside was good although a little damp as it was raining. Just outside our door was the adults only pool. Unfortunately it looked like the pool had not been cleaned since last season. Leaves, sticks a dirt on the floor and green mould growing on the walls. Someone was looking after the other pool as this was clean and shiny. Unfortunately the room standard was let down in the bathroom. Black mould on the white grout round the bath tips at the tap end. The bath water spout trim was away from the wall by at least 3 cm. bare pipe could be seen sticking through the wall. All the tap handles were loose, shower bath and basin with at least two able to be pulled off the spindle. A large section of paint on bottom of the door trim had been scraped off as if something had been constantly rubbing at it, at least 15 cm. everything in the bathroom was clean with the exception of the mould as previously mentioned. The towels and soaps were plentiful and well presented. The sleeping kitchen and lounge were well presented and comfortable which unfortunately made the bathroom stand out. We came back to the room late in the evening and when we parked outside our room there was a terrible smell around the parking area and up to our room door, luckily it didn't follow us inside. In the morning I noticed the garbage bin storage was adjacent to the car park and the smell seemed to be coming from this area. At check out I mentioned these problems to the receptionist and she said they would get maintenance to look at the room problems as no one had previously mentioned them. She put the smell down to guest probably having prawns in their room and throwing the remains away in the garbage area. Maybe the garbage area should be moved away from guest area. Unfortunately there were some good parts of our accommodation but they were over balanced by other parts.

« A lot to like »

This hotel is on the edge of some beautiful coastline, the reception and restaurant are housed in a period building which is really nice. The overall look of the hotel is okay but the standard rooms are a great size and have a nice comfy bed. As with so many hotels there could be more water pressure in the shower!

We really enjoyed out stay!, The bed was comfy and the room was nice and quiet. The shower and facilities were good as well. We loved having a wine on the verandah before dinner.

« disappointing »

unfortunately it was raining during our stay at the Mercure Gerringong. We had to take our bags up outdoor stairs that were hard to navigate in the wet and the step treads made it harder although they had to be there to prevent slipping. I would have liked an undercover area so we didn't get wet. The room needs some updating as the bottom of the bathroom door was coming apart. Thought the room was comfortable it was bare with nothing on the walls to soften the look. However we did hav a good nights sleep in a comfortable bed.

I have to admit to being very disappointed with our experience. The room smelled sickly sweet which meant we opened both windows and the door to let a through breeze remove the odour. The room was large and under utilised the space available. A simple kitchenette could easily have fitted in. Instead the kettle had to be filled from the basin. Rather awkward and unhygienic in my eyes. The bathroom design was shocking. The shower water flowed over the floor making it a safety hazard and obviously gradually rotting the base of the bathroom door. The floor in the shower should have sloped backwards to a plug hole and the shower head was too close to the opening. The shower taps were loose also. We ordered a cheese platter for room service which proved difficult. Three cheese platters and the person on the other end had no idea as to which one we wanted. It did come quickly to our room but did not contain all the things ordered, then to add insult, although quoted as $ 15 we were charged $20. In comparison we had stopped at Traralgon a few nights before in an owner owned motel. It was simple, had comfortable chairs to sit on, provided a complimentary continental breakfast all for a fee of $105. In comparison the Mercure appeared pompous and too large for its boots. I did like the receptionist I dealt with on morning of the 11/11. She was pleasant, efficient and friendly. We will not go back to Gerringong Mercure. The atmosphere was remote and dismissive overall. (My husband Peter adds that the cleaner he met the next morning was a lovely man. He greeted Peter cheerfully) Yours sincerely, Judy R.

The facilities are good, staff very friendly and attentive. However, we booked a romantic get away which included champagne on arrival, two course meal and a massage. Turns out no restaurant booking, no champagne in the room on arrival and massage fully booked. We received a late sitting at the restaurant. The menu was short on GF options. The learning check menu before making a booking and that what's on offer is available, don't assume the hotel will organise the package. We did receive a refund for the massage, was disappointed with the meal and champagne was delivered to the room after advising reception. What's really disappointing is that I expected the Mercure would be better organised.

The room was fine and clean however the resort itself and the grounds was very poor maintained and lots of work needed to tidy and clean it up. The adult pool was full of leaves, dirty and wasn't in a condition to be used .

2nd stay at hotel, interconnecting rooms were great, mix up with the bed layout but fixed straight away. Office staff were friendly. Buffet bfast was good but think kids under 12 should be free. Large pool was great but the kids pool was very dirty and filled with leaves and patches of bottom was green and light fitting was hanging out. Got our complementary drinks for Accor Plus but bar was closed on Sunday so unable to use them :( We will be back :)

« Great Potential but Average Hotel »

If someone with a good eye for detail got hold of this hotel it would be fabulous. It needs an overhaul. We played tennis and I tripped on the broken grass court, it needs resurfacing. Food at the restaurant average and service was just Ok. We rang reception from our room a couple of times and it rang out or went to message bank.

« A few days in Gerringong »

An enjoyable few days staying at the Mercure Gerringong. We had a spacious room on the 3rd level overlooking the tennis count. While the hotel is a little out of the town shopping center and about 15 minute walk to the beach both are worth a visit. It is where it is, not an issue if you are attending by car and is in a good location for driving to various attractions in the area e.g. rain forrests and Kiama blow holes and scenery. We used public transport and enjoyed the walks to and from the railway station, about 30 minutes, although there are buses from Kiama that pick up and drop off at the hotel door. We are both keen walkers and enjoyed the scenic coastal walking in the area which can also be accessed by local transport i.e. train and bus. The restaurant, reception and room service staff were all very friendly and helpful although the restaurant/bar is closed on Sundays and does not open until 6pm on all other days. So if you are desperate for a drink to enjoy in the many excellently provided areas around the hotel take your own although there are tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms.

Stay was good. Everything in room worked well. Property looks tired. Back if bathroom door grubby (room 217). As an Accor plus member I did not receive bottled water, but did receive drink vouchers and Internet.

« A little disappointing »

We have stayed in this resort several times before. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was lovely. Unfortunately the cleanliness was not satisfactory. The children wanted to swim but the spa was vert dirty and the pool / adult pool were also in need of a clean. The rooms were not cleaned properly, a little dusty, the carpets did not seem properly vacuumed and worst of all - I cringe saying it - but the toilet was dirty including skid marks. There are also small things that should be looked at updating in the near future such as rusty towel rails (only saying this to bring it to your attention - it didn't effect my opinion) One of my main preferences of a resort is cleanliness, so Im hoping it can be improved. I did mention it to the front desk.

« Great stay for any purpose »

We had a wonderful stay. The place provided everything that we needed and the service was great. The only issue was the location. It is about a 25 minute walk to the train station; 15 minute walk to the bowling club (only place open on a Monday and Tuesday night).

« Rooms need to be updated. Beds very comfortable, bathrooms clean plenty of towels etc »

The hotel room needed updating. The bedside lamp did not work. The light needed replacing. We had a court yard, the table needed cleaning and the garden area needed work. The pool area was great as was the restaurant. The menu had plenty of choices and the staff were great.

We thoroughly enjoyed our first two nights, but had an unfortunate experience on the third night. Our room was infested with bugs. I know it was due to weather conditions, nevertheless, it meant that we had to spend the evening with no lights on, to prevent more bugs entering our room. We told the staff about it in the morning, and received a call from the manager the following day, apologizing for the bad experience and explaining their inability to control weather conditions, which I understand. As compensation, we were not charged for our breakfasts.
