The entire stay was absolutely pleasant. In particular, the reception staff were all very polite and helpful. Korea is a country with major language barrier for foreigners (since the locals speak mostly Korean with limited understanding for English). Despite this barrier, the hotel staff tried their very best to bridge this by providing me with Korean translated locations so that I can just hand it over to the taxi drivers and they will take me to the location safely. Also, I was having trouble finding a pet shop to get some pet toys for my pup at home. However, the reception staff (Jayden Kim) was really helpful and went all out to locate it for me and guided me to the location via google map (note: Google maps don’t work in Korea but somehow, the staff managed to pin it on Google map for me. Also, Jayden went all out to ring up the shop to make sure it was opened and telling the staff to expect my visit. Was a very very pleasant and satisfied stay in Mercure Gangnam. Will definitely be back. However, it would be even better if they could provide some water in the room.

I stayed at the Mercure hotel in Seoul for 2 nights. The check-in procedure at reception was fast and efficient. The room was a good size, well decorated and clean. The breakfast was good, lots of choice and fresh. I would recommend.

Despite being a regular here, I was sent to a standard room where the toilet was not cleaned at all. After explaining to a different staff member, he offered me a deluxe room which was clean as expected. The rest of my stay was nice. Nothing to complain about. I like the breakfast, and would love to see bulgogi every morning.

Rooms were small but clean and well appointed. Beds were comfortable. Service was OK - prompt response, nothing above and beyond. Main concern was room temperature - winter time so set at 26F and no AC - was provided a room fan upon request.

« taxi preparation at the reception desk »

On the way back to Kimpo airport, we would like to take a taxi, and clerk at the reception desk, kindly offer us to invite maybe hotel preferred taxi, even though there are 2 taxis in front of the hotel, but it took more than 15 min waiting, at last we tool taxi in front of the hotel. For the hotel, using hotel prefferred taxi vendor, for us, as we are in the hurry situation. Please do not force using your prefereble.

Regarding your comment, I would like to explain little bit of the situation. To be very honest with you, we do not have any contract or anything with taxi company, just we have list of international taxi driver's number and we call them for our guest to make taxi reservation. And also we try to catch a taxi with kakao taxi( mobile app.) for high demand of taxi needs. I can assume that the two taxis in front of the door were reserved at the moment for certain time in advance because we always let the guest take a taxi if the taxi is available outside. I do think that the situation you have experienceed can make you to misunderstand however, we never force the guests to take certain taxis and there is no reason to do. I had a wonderful experience staying at Mercure hotel. On the 19th of Feb I fell ill and needed to visit a doctor. I went down to the reception to ask for directions to get to the nearest Clinic. The receptionist working on that day was very helpful and kind, she even took an umbrella and accompanied me out to show me exactly how to get to the clinic so that i will not get lost. She shared her umbrella with me on the snowy day and even gave me her umbrella to use for the remaining part of my trip and volunteered to walk back to the hotel without an umbrella. This is one of those times where i felt the service was excellent and commendable. It was very nice to have been shown such kindness and care and i would appreciate if the receptionist working on that day would be commended on her excellent service. Not only that, she even recognised me on the same day and asked me if i was feeling better and if i needed any further assistence. I will definitly return to stay at the Mercure Hotel if i am at South Korea becasue of the excellent service, kindness and humanity I was presented with. My only regret is that i did not take down the kind receptionist's name to give her thanks for looking out for me with such kindness. I do hope that this message will be shared so that she knows that the man she helped out that day and his family are very grateful for the kindness she showed that day. Thank you very much.
