« Wonderful stay. Perfect service worthy of a flagship hotel »

This was our second stay at Sofitel KunMing and after first stay at the same hotel last year (which was amazing), we knew it was a hard act to follow. But this last visit exceeded our expectations so much that we even extended our stay. The hotel is beautifully presented, guest rooms comfortable and staff excellent. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived and the Sofitel team were always ready to help. As Club members, we were fortunate to experience the personalized service in Club Milleseme lounge on level 48. The Club team were always friendly and looked after our every needs. A special mention to the Club Manager, Ilgiz and Cindy Xu, who assisted us with travel arrangements and even helped to organize a courier to send some excess baggage to our next Sofitel hotel. The Sofitel KunMing is a fabulous hotel and we would recommend it to anyone and feel it deserves its status as the flagship Sofitel in China.

« Below my expectation, worst Sofitel experience so far, even worse if I only compare Sofitel Canton Province China »

When I entered the room 4812, I immediately called the service centre if I can pay for a further upgrade. No reply and no follow until I check out. I did not call again as I have already unpacked. The shower entrance is incredibly small as a 5-star hotel in China. I hardly believe there is such a space issue could happen in China. Obviously it is a design fault. The door can hardly allow approx 1 feet space to get in and out. I am not that slim as easily get thought the shower door. Service standard below my expectation. I experienced my better hospitality and understanding during my stay in Sofitel Canton, both Guangzhou and Foshan. Staff are well trained and with good experiences on services to guests. For example, I asked for coffee capsules in the room and finally it came the Nestle 3-in 1. I entitled for bath amenities to L'occitane but the staff twice wrongly sent me the Lavin set. Remember, I raised my request in Chinese, Mandarin. I am not native but I am confidence that I am much fluent in Mandarin. No language boundary at all but understanding was not effective. I found broken coffee cup on the dining table at the breakfast restaurant. I found dirt and residue on the plate at the 48/F lounge. I made photos. This is obviously can be improved with proper training, monitoring and management. Food quality can be improved, in general. For example, the salmon obviously was not fresh. The texture was awful. I tried the french pressed coffee during my 1st breakfast. Then I decided only to stay with the Nespresso machine in the room. I am afraid they do not know how to brew a French pressed coffee. Last thing happened, I forgot my 2 rings in the room when I left the hotel. I immediately called and asked the staff to check. I went back to the hotel in approx. 20mins, the staff was able to take me to the room and collected my wedding ring. Appreciate their help. However, another staff again called me an hour later until I arrived at the airport and told me the ring not found. Obviously again it is a management issue regarding the communication within the team members. I still have to thank to the front desk staff who immediately helped me settled and found my rings. The only thing of my compliment is the food variety provided at the buffet and the 42/F lounge. I must say I am impressed from the wide range were served. I am a fan of Sofitel. I booked this trip only because one day I saw an advertisement of your hotel via LinkedIn. I was lying in the hotel for 5 days and want to have my own time. Therefore I spent all the time in the hotel and very much rely on the service. In general I cannot say it is extremely bad. Nevertheless, it is not the Sofitel experience in reasonable expectation level. I think it is a fair comparison and expectation that I only compare it to Canton, not even to other countries. Fully understood the difficulties of management in China, that's why I chose Sofitel.

Whenever I stay in Kunming, I definitely choose Sofitel Kunming which is the best hotel in Kunming city regarding the quality of service, the facilities as well as the dining meals.The rooms are spacious, clean with well equipped with all necessities and good views. No matter the Western food, Chinese food and bar, all provide the very good quality that I like to dine in the hotel all the time.The most impressive is their service, those staff are providing very courteous service all the time, especially Winnie Ting, Jenny, Vicky, Cindy, Wesley, Denny, Kidding, they also try their best to assist us and highlighted our stay so much. The Business lounge at 48 floor is extraordinary and the pleasant personality of the staff here is excellent, particularly Ms Vicky is very helpful and customer oriented. She has demonstrated a very well trained and superb service lounge should provide. When I was not feeling well due to gastric problem she took extra effort to warm up some milk for me to comfort my stomach ache due to gastric.

The corner room in the hotel was large and beautiful. I enjoyed the location of the hotel too. Convenient walk to nice restaurants and downtown areas, a short taxi ride to tourist attractions. The concierge arranged a car for the day to visit the Stone Forest in Shilin and the the caves in Yiliang. The breakfast buffet on the 49th floor is extensive and delicious. This was my first stay at a Sofitel hotel, but not my last!

It was a great experience staying in Sofitel. Compliments to Ivy Jin (Reservation), Max Xu (Concierge), Xiao Dan Wu (Housekeeping). They have been very helpful during my stay. However, one of the front office colleague Ms Sara Zhao. Maybe she wasn't having a good day, when I arrived at the hotel after a long flight. My family was greeted by her with a very unpleasant face of hers. I have already told her I have do my online check in which means my keys would be ready when I arrive. Correct me if i am wrong. I showed her my confirmation on the early check-in. She told me bluntly " you didn't check in at all". I told her this is the confirmation that was sent to me to say its confirmed I have checked in. But she just ignored me. But overall experience it was okay.
