Sofitel Kunming, the location of the hotel is very excellent, close to the Joy City complex and also the Carrefour market 10 minutes walk, You will find a lot of bakeries and great restaurants, its location amidst many tourist places, 15 minutes by taxi Akshan Lake, 7 minutes by taxi to the famous Jinbo Street, 20 minutes rock city Shilin, 15 minutes to Yuling Mountain , The reception was beautiful and wonderful I liked the way the general manager welcomed me . The general manager is encouraging assistant managers to keep in touch with every customer, and every day you see something new in the hotel or room, flowers, fruits, and tea. All staff speak English, provide assistance and information to all the tourist attractions in the city, see the smile on all staff at the hotel. The room is very nice and the decor and colors are quiet and organized and luxurious make you start your day with a comfortable feeling . The restaurant is beautiful overlooking the panorama of the city and the lake, they have Chef Mohamed, the quality of the food in the buffet is varied and international, the restaurant and the staff are very clean and energetic, and I liked something if you want special food and not present in the buffet within minutes they provide . I thank the Director General for working comfortably during my stay at the hotel. Really a great hotel and an intelligent General manager who has rules and foundations for the success of the hotel. Thank you to all the wonderful assistant managers who are actively working, and all the staff at the hotel. Thank Kunming City, thank the Chinese people for their hospitality to me in their wonderful country.

Efficient email correspondence prior to check-in. But when we arrived tired, hungry & just wanted a simple quick bite, it proved impossible. Ordered sandwiches at 11.10am at Kwee Zeen. Other patrons were already starting on their 12pm buffet but our food was still not here. To make things worse, my 7-year old daughter was trapped inside the toilet because a long-known faulty door was not properly fixed. An out of order sign could be easily put up instead of waiting for disaster to happen. She has eczema and scratches herself like crazy under stress. What if it’s an elderly who has heart problem? Other patrons started not locking the toilet doors when they heard about the incident and some even went without closing the door. I’m sure this is not the image you’d like to project for your hotel. Ground staff had been helpful & they really tried to calm my daughter down. The manager at the main lobby could use more empathy & people skill. He came across as cold & business-like. Sofitel was our last stop and I truly wished that I’d picked another hotel. We generally had a great time in China. It’s a shame that it ended on a bad note. One good thing though was the breakfast spread the next morning. The amount of selection was impressive.

average with some unusual surprises. I had a guest arrived around 9 pm at the night and I went down to elevator well to pick him up. Just after we entered the room, reception called demanding him to register at reception, citing local regulation as reason. The problem is How do you know my exact move? Am I been watched or monitored? I asked the same question to staff called, she explained as coincidence, its simply not convincing.

In the beginning , a bit surprised that the check-in staff and the staff in restaurant asked for extra surcharge of the breakfast for my daughter who is 11 years old. The check-in staff advised very confidently that Sofitel define the child according the height but not the age until I showed her the fare condition in website of Sofitel Kunming . I think the training need to be improved as I think this is very basic information about the company rules and culture . If the website information is not correct then Sofitel also need to update .

When we arrived, the check in service was not welcoming and professional. We were offered the rooms with many problems. The rooms we received smells as the problems in the toilets were not properly handled. We did not expect a five star hotel to have provided careless service to customers. Spending five nights in the hotel, we received better arrangement from the executive lounge afterwards. They provided us better rooms without smells and unpleasant feelings. We enjoyed our stay overall speaking still if the executive lounge can maintain the professional service of having enough wines for the customers that would be even better. The rooms were overall clean.

Other positive reviews just reflect what a five star hotel should do, and we found the staff friendly.  BUT:- Hotel website says a mere10 minutes from Kunming South rail station - LIE its an hour. Room offers 50 movies - LIE as staff never download them, washbasin plug broken - refused to fix, shower door leaking at hinge - poor maintenance, rain leaks between window glass and frame - poor build, room suitable 1 night stay only - only 2 TINY drawers to unpack into, club room hot food not kept at safe temperature - health risk, club room food provision not linked to hotel occupancy &  no cooperation by kitchen when ran out, breakfast hot black tea served cold as not freshly made, charged phone calls when only between rooms and to housekeeping for missing provisions or laundry. Stay prepaid and General Manager offered only words in response to comprehensive accurate criticism - a few loyalty points would have shown GENUINE regret. This is not normal Accor/Sofitel standards, proactive management required.

Overall is good, except the payment policy. I am confused with the payment policy. As i already been guaranteed and paid for my stay, yet upon check out i still being ask to pay at the counter! I had to incur extra phone call charges to call back to my country to verify it with the credit card. Which i thing is ridiculous! Why not you make it clear at the first place (between accor & the hotel).

Sofitel is my regular stay whenever i take business trip to Kunming, it located near the nearby office areas where i have most of my meetings. Not far from the high way to the airport. Great sumptuous breakfast and close to nearest restaurants and bars.

Very well maintained and modern hotel although tmuch of the interior design was poorly conceived and rather urgly. F&B Manager Mr King LAN and Executive Chef Mo were both very friendly and helpful indeed but there was little sign of middle or other senior management on duty. My luxury room was excellent. The Executive lounge was specious with very good range of food during happy hour, but range of drinks and cocktail list were very limited. The female staff in the lounge spoke little English, appeared inadequately trained and need to be tasught to be pro-active with their service. Conciege staff and drivers did their best to be helpful which was a plus.

Sofitel Kunming is a wonderful introduction to Kunming, Yunnan. After a long, rough flight from the U.S., the terrific bed was a treat. The room amenities, especially the bathtub, lots of fun. The breakfast cannot be described as it features the best of both worlds: French and Chinese. There were very few Westerners in the city and in the hotel, but the hotel staff goes out of their way to try to be helpful not only at the front desk but also in the dining rooms. You'll love the experience.

Front desk staff are very nice and helpful. The room is very clean and very nice welcome fruit plate. Both of the restaurent the food are very good and on 49 floor coffee shop are very nice choice for breakfast also for buffet dinner. When we check out the Concierge staffs are very helpful to load our luggages in the car.
