I received wonderful service from most of the staff, very helpful. The room has a great view. The location is very convenient, easy to get to anywhere. The breakfast is very good with wide selection. And the swimming pool is quite nice.

It was a pleasant stay. The check in service was efficient, particularly with the help from Ms Vitamin who always carries a big smile which makes people feel like we are going home. I would also like to thank Mr Yanis Yan from the Club house. He offered great help in finding the appropriate medical treatment as I slipped and twisted my feet and was in great pain. Without his help, I probably would have great difficulty in going home on the date of departure. Another person I really appreciate was Ms Zuca from the restaurant at 49/F. Again, her smile really makes people happy and thanks for the delicious flower cakes. Besides, the staff at the lobby did offer great help with the spare batteries. The music and sound effect inside the room is excellent! The only problem I had was the tour arranged for the one-day trip to the Stone forest. I was told that 'Hon Fai' tourist company is the company that the hotel dealt with. Even though the representative from the travel company was polite, the tour guide from the company however was quite rude. I slipped and had my feet twisted. There's no bandage provided (no first aid kid available in the bus) and my feet was swollen after the whole day trip. And I was told that the travel company would send me back to the hotel after the trip. However, I was left near the railway station and needed to catch a cab back to the hotel for a meeting. I asked the tour guide to help me find a cab but she refused and I ended up trying for 3 different taxis before I was able to get back to the hotel. I wonder if the hotel should continue working with this tour company. On the whole, I still had a wonderful stay at the hotel.

« Good but could be improved »

Generally good but few points need to be improved. We booked the room using 2 WeChat mall voucher. When we checked in at the first day we are told to no need to checked in on the second day. But after first day staying we recieved a call telling us to check in again. It is quite confuse to us and we have to end our trip and rush back to hotel to check in again. It was not that pleasant especially my grandma has to wait out side our room for 30mins to wait for checking in( essentially not necessary)

I was in a twin room the day before and shifted to a Sing;e room the next day. It seems that there is a little difference in the amenities in the room. On 19 Jun, I checked into a twin room, there were fruits, nuts & cookies, also there were flower vase with beautiful flowers on display ... The bedside display dolls were also beautiful. But when I checked into a single room, there were none of the above. Wonder why the difference? It was also on the same level. However, the service of the hotel staff are very good. I must say they are very attentive and helpful. I did not have the time to venture out of the hotel neighbourhood. I would recommend to stay in this hotel.

We were greeted by friendly and helpful staff on arrival. Kristen Chen had assisted us along the way. The room was huge and the ammenties were great. The bed linen were super soft in feel. Fruits and snacks were such a thoughtful gesture prior to our arrival. The toilet were nice in design too. Toiletries were luxurious. View from the room is great. I would definitely recommend to stay in this hotel. Had not venture out on the surrounding though and so unable to give any comments.

Everytime back to the sofitel kunming just like home! Those stuff really know what you like and what you need here, And the housekeeping do a great job! I must say my family was quite disappointed with our experience at Sofitel Kunming this past weekend. We were very excited to spend our weekend in Kunming as my wife and my daughter were visiting from the US. However, we had not only one but three incidents where we were almost infuriated. The first incident happened when we were having a lunch at Le Chinois upon our arrival. When we placed our order, Server A (We cannot accurately recall the names of the employees) advised us that we ordered too much food. Upon hearing his advice, we cancelled many of our dishes. Even after 30 minutes, none of our dishes arrived so we told another server. Within 1 minute a few of our dishes arrived, but the dishes were served cold in random order as if they were leftovers. After 15 more minutes, we asked a manager about our order and placed more food as we saw that the portions were actually smaller than expected. We waited another 15 more minutes but we still haven’t received our remaining dishes from the first order. Actually some of the hot dishes from the second order were served cold again as if they were just serving us leftovers fast. After a total of 1 hour has passed we asked the manager and the server which dishes were remaining. When they brought out the list, we noticed that many of our dishes were not even on the list and also even the one on the list from the initial order has not been served yet. We also felt like the manager (her name was Mingyi Liu or something similar) had a very condescending attitude throughout this whole process. The second incident occurred when we asked a concierge about visiting a wholesale tea market the next morning (Saturday). We specifically had a list of six markets that we wanted to visit and asked for the closet one. He insisted we visit a place that’s not part of the six we asked for and arranged a taxi for us. However, when we arrived at the place he arranged us for, we realized that he sent us to a tea shop that is run by his “friend”. We specifically asked for a wholesale market, not to be connected to his friend selling tea. The last incident occurred when we asked for a taxi ride to the south train station the next morning (Sunday). The same concierge found a taxi for us and told us the flat rate would be 150 yuan. I insisted that we use the meter instead. When I got in the cab and we were 3 minutes into the ride, I realized that the meter was covered with a piece of fabric. When I removed the fabric, I saw that the meter was already at 25 yuan. I noted this to the can driver and she reset the meter. The whole cab ride ended up costing about 80 yuan. The reason why travelers stay at a hotel and ask concierge for advice is to avoid these kind of incidents. And we were heavily disappointed at the lack of professionalism of the employees at Sofitel.

Things are not right from the moment I contacted the hotel reservation. The communication skill of the Sales Department was so poor that we chosen to have our company annul dinner in another hotel. Some of the executive Lounge staff are not well trained, poor arrangement when the lounge is more crowded than normal.

Friendly staff.... only English speaking skills at breakfast service area to be improved. Breakfast comment: I came to the breakfast room at 8 am, but several items were already out of stock and for the entire stay in the breakfast room that morning (I stayed for 2 hours, since I had a meeting with my colleauges), items (e.g. like sugar donuts) were never refilled. I think it should not be that the guest has to arrive when the breakfast area is opened to have the full selection of items available, I think a 5-Star hotel should refill the breakfast during the cause of the morning. Otherwise, stay was nice ...

While checking in, when we arrived we received a welcome drink. The Lobby Ambassador Camille, who took care of arrival was absolutely lovely, full of advices for sightseeing in the city and she even walked with us to our suite, to give us a very pleasant presentation of our one-night apartment. The apartment itself was beautiful and very spacious. Among all, the bathroom was incredible, with a super nice view (we were staying at the 41st floor). We enjoyed a lot going to the Club on the 48th, for the aperitif, where the service was also impeccable. The breakfast was as well a good experience, with lots of choices and good quality products. I truly hope to renew this experience soon, and I would definitely recommend to relatives a stay at Sofitel Kunming.

Our stay was absolutely wonderful. From the personal attention of the general manager Mr Erasmus to the young man at the door, the greetings and attention has been overwhelming. I have never been treated this well at any hotel. One very unusual thing is the loving greetings of the young attendants many of them young enough to call me grandfather and they did address me so!
