« Not good customer service »

Check in desk was not very helpful. We received room at the end of the hotel, when ask to change they said only this room was available. Hotel wasnt full. Room windows are not isolated for noise, so wake up 3 times during the night for noise coming outside (party outside). When told this during check out, just received answer "we will tell someone". Will not stay in Novotel again, if the service is like this.

+ Close to The Old Town and Cobbled Streets – museums, shops, cafes within walking distance. + Room had a desk, power ports and was in typical Novotel Style - The notion of ‘service’ seems to be missing; staff don’t proactively offer assistance - Rooms are small and some flaws in the hardware. - Expensive for the service and comfort provided. - No Platinum Recognition. On a positive note, the location of the hotel is good if you’d like to be on the door step of the old city centre with its cobbled stones and boutique shops; it’s also not too far from the main station and there are two metro stations close by. However, do note that getting taxis from the Wilson area to the Airport on weekday mornings is near impossible if not pre-booked (I was quoted over a 1 hour wait) but fortunately found an UberX after some searching. The rooms seemed recently refurbished in the standard Novotel Style, including a small work desk and the shower had good power and hot water. However, given the price per night of this hotel (between EUR 137 – EUR 152 during my stay) I was expecting more than these basic requirements. What I felt this hotel lacked for the price was an understanding of SERVICE. There was really no proactive attempt by the staff to look after the customer. On arrival check in was fast, but there was minimal verbal communication. As an Accor Member I was handed a welcome drink voucher and my room card...that was about the sum total of the interaction. My status as a Platinum member was not mentioned; no welcome amenity provided, no mention that there was no upgrade availability. I can understand if the hotel was full, but a verbal acknowledgment that they'd at least looked would have been more fitting. According to the website there was upgrade space the following nights and I know other Accor Hotels would have at least tried by proactively offered a room change and upgrade later in the stay. In the room I discovered some of the basic facilities were missing - no iron or ironing board, no toothbrush, tiny paper cups for tea; the bodywash fixed to the wall of the shower I could live with, as they had provided some miniatures too, but it seemed like the mindset was more geared towards an Ibis Concept than a Novotel, and yet over EUR 137 a night! I was able to obtain a toothbrush from reception the next afternoon, and borrow an iron, but omitting these from the room and using paper cups made the service offering feel cheap. When I asked about an Iron and Ironing Board at reception the next day, the staff promptly fetched them from a cupboard, but then indicated I was meant to carry both the iron and the ironing board myself, along with the bags I was already holding. I showed my displeasure at which point the staff asked if I was ok to carry them; in the end I carried the iron and the receptionist carried the ironing board. I let the staff know the next morning that I'd finished using them, but neither were collected and they were still there when I checked out 3 days later. The room felt modern with a recent decor, but small; looking at the hotel plan it looks like they've tried to cram as many in as possible rather than as practical. The hotel layout is quite unusual due to the building being quite old and presumably not originally designed as a hotel. It did not help that the signs in the corridor directing towards the rooms were contradictory, for example, on alighting the lift on the third floor, the sign states, "Left Rooms 315...324, Right Rooms 314...355". Given that both directions, after quite a walk lead to dead-ends, it's quite irritating (& confusing) looking for a room in the 320s by turning right. As for the room hardware, I discovered the lock to the door did not work (it did not lock) - the hotel staff rectified this the next day. The Automatic Frosting on the shower glass also did not work but this was at least stuck on (privacy), rather than off. What was more disappointing was that after returning to the room in the evening, after a day of business meetings, the room smelt of the kitchens - an unpleasant smell of frying. This seemed to be coming from the air conditioning unit and no obvious way to rid it from the room. Housekeeping was a bit patchy too - some days it was fine and I have no complaints, other days it was less thorough; for example, on one day the box of tissues in the hotel room was not replenished (it had 2 tissues left it in, despite one of them being folded into a triangle, so it had been checked) nor the bottle of water in the fridge replaced. I got a fresh box of tissues when I request one at reception, which was just as well as the next morning I had developed a cold. The tea, coffee and paper cups were always replenished thankfully. The room was quiet, as per my preference; I suspect this was helped by facing the internal void, although this meant my view was the roof of the reception area. I checked-out on my final morning and was going to use the express option but fortunately did not as the receptionist I spoke with stated there was a charge for breakfast on the bill. They were efficient in removing this without issue when I confirmed I had not had breakfast. Overall, I would have been ok had the room price been half of what it was and if my Platinum had at least been acknowledged. However, for the rates being charged and the alternative accommodation in the area I would not stay again.

We had the pleasure to stay 3 days at the Novotel. The staff was great. The hotel nice, clean and has all you need for a good stay. Unfortunately they have problems with their ventilation so the whole hotel lobby smells like food and also our room was smelling like a fryer because of the aircon. also the room we stayed in was quite small but was cosy. Regarding the breakfast which has a good selection. The scramled eggs are made by not fresh eggs (liquid egg containers) and were soaky, wet and uneatable. The good news is you can have fresh omlettes, etc. The coffee maker only uses pulverized milk and doesnt taste.

The hotel staff are fantastic. The breakfast buffet is appetizing and has everything one could wish for. The hotel is in the best location imaginable. The rooms are well-furnished, and very clean. My room was cleaned every morning by a very friendly woman who made sure everything was properly placed before she left.

Our visit to the city, but it won’t be our last. The hotel was in such a good location, convenient for everything and ever place, we’ll definitely use this hotel on our next visit. Reception and and the staff were lovely. Our superior room was smaller than we expected but was adequate. The bathroom with shower was very good. The room was cleaning was faultless. Breakfast was served in a bright beautiful dining room, with an above average choice of a continental breakfast. We ate in the hotel restaurant on 1 night and the food and service were both good.

« We are satisfied but there is room for improvement. The level is being downgraded maybe due to the many new beginners forming part of the staff. Lack of politeness also noted. »

Our experience was under expectations as our previous stay was much better. Upon arrival we were given an inappropriate room and had to ask the check in officer to check the booking we made. After this remark she was quite helpful, as for medical reasons I was not allowed to carry any luggage. I was surprised to note that for the welcome drink I was not allowed to consume alcoholic drink and had to pay for a Pina Colada, compared to other accor hotels where I have been before.
