Accomodation ok, suroundings, ok, food ok. Still waiting for my invoice. Since I was on a business trip I have to input all the costs made during this trip which I am now unable to since the system in the hotel broke down.

« Although the staff were very nice this was the worst Mercure we have been in. »

The windows could only be opened about 6 inches which made the room stifling. The enormous bathtub in the bathroom/toilet was so huge your knees banged the tube if you sat on the toilet. Very ill thought out. A normal sized bathtub would have been suitable. The breakfast food (eggs, bacon) etc. had obviously been cooked the night before or 6 hours or so earlier. Very rubbery. The carpets need to be replaced as they are quite stained. Quite clearly money needs to be spent to make improvements to bring it up to normal Mercure standards. The staff were very kind and helpful.

« Excellent overnight stay.  »

Staff were all friendly and helpful. Room was lovely and clean. The only criticisms are that the breakfast was expensive, although it did look good; and plug sockets close by the bed for phone charging would be helpful. Overall very positive and would happily book again.

« Beautiful garde, perfect location. »

We had a lovely two nights stay at this hotel, confortable clean room overlooking the flower garden. Very quiet, roomy and light. Staff on all fronts made you feel welcomed. Breakfast was very good, with ample choices. Diner was also worth having. The inside of the hotel which was a mansion is most interesting. Within easy reach of the Arboretum Memorial. Also the very interesting castle in Tamworth and the cathedral in Liechfield.

« Average »

We bought the stay through a Wowcher discount code which seemed very good and promised a night stay, 3 course meal, Breakfast and Afternoon Tea. Night Stay: Room 223 Room was average, very hot and no AC though made it a little uncomfortable overnight and the window doesn't open too much. Shower had two temperatures; hot and off. Could've done with a bedside table on both sides of the bed. Lights are very dim and at night with all lights on it was hard to see. Bed is very hard (maybe some people like it like that?). Breakfast: Very nice breakfast, waiter went to the trouble of getting mustard for me for the Black pudding. Black pudding very well cooked, seemed deep fried and greasy? Overall breakfast was good! Afternoon Tea: Booked for 12pm Sunday, we arrived at 11:55am and was asked to wait in bar by receptionist. We waited until 12~:25 when I got up to ask what was going on only to have the receptionist apologize as he'd forgot. The lady with him had said she'd been waiting for us, unfortunately the afternoon tea also seemed like it had been waiting and the sandwiches were a little dry/tough (the bread). The cakes were very nice and lady was extremely nice! She even went to the trouble of packing the cakes up for us to takeaway (too much breakfast!). 3 Course Meal: Here's where it seems to break down a little and prompted me to leave the score of 5 only. The voucher states 3 course meal and even the website on Wowcher takes you to a 3 course menu that you could choose from (I only found this out the following day after questionning myself on why we didn't get a 3-course meal but just £22 off our food bill). http://www.mercureburton.co.uk/assets/files/2017-Chefs-choice-Menu.pdf Apparently this menu adds up to £22, however when I compare this with your actual menu in the restaurant the cheapest items on this menu add up to £26, so I don't quite get that either, unless its a special price then fine but at least offer it to us! Soup £6 Fish £14 Caramel Tart £6 So when we arrived at the restaurant and inquired about the 3-course meal we were told only that we'd receive £22 off our bill (each), not that there was a special Brasserie Chef's Choice menu we could choose from as per the link above which would equate to our £22. So we ordered from the menu unaware of this menu and I believe we ended up spending about £50 extra including drinks. I would've left this really had we been told about the 'special menu' but unfortunately it was never offered. In addition to this I have to point out that your Roast Lamb Rump was incredibly chewy, I had to swap with my wife as she just couldn't eat it! I hope you find this review useful and would hope you contacted me with some sort of explanation?

I didn't have a good night's sleep as the walls were very thin and I could hear other guests chatting and moving around until the early hours of the morning. I also woke up to a dead phone as the socket must have been faulty (socket on the left closest to the TV - charger worked fine and the switch was down but it didn't charge my phone) neither of which were ideal for attending a work conference the following day. I went down for breakfast at 8am at which time there was very little hot food left. The staff were friendly and helpful and I had a lovely view outside of my room window but in general I would say the hotel needs an update and makeover.

« Excellent, restful stay »

Two days in this lovely hotel, set in beautiful surroundings full of fascinating History. Hotel staff were most helpful and courteous. We were very well looked after and enjoyed a restful stay. After exploring various sites in the surrounding countryside, it was good to know this hotel guaranteed a good night's sleep. Much appreciated!

« Toilet was so close to the bath couldn't sit on it properly was ridiculous »

I was put in a small double room. When I know they have larger double rooms. I'm fairly sure the price is the same. The toilet was facing the side of the bath & so close you couldn't sit in the toilet properly. The food was ok in the bar

A very nice old building with friendly, helpful staff. The rooms are great, although I did have to search for the tea and coffee!

« Great staff but the hotel is rundown and basic »

The food in the restaurant was good and the young man behind the bar was fantastic. The main issue is the fabric of the building - the floors creak constantly, the bathroom is basic and in poor repair and the décor is in desperate need of a makeover.

« Very nice just missing a gym »

Staff very friendly and tolerant of some late night drinking. Breakfast was OK if not mind blowing. I personally prefer a gym facility at my hotels and it was not clear if you did or didn't have one conflicting information available. Overall very nice stay with friendly staff

« Comfortable stay »

This hotel is a little dated, everything else very good, cleanliness, delicious breakfast, good food, comphy beds. The staff couldn't do enough for us, especially Zachariah in the dining room, well done.
