We stayed at Mercure Burton on Trent for a weekend away. Very pleasant stay. As expected on a weekend in the middle of summer there were weddings at the hotel each day/evening. On one evening all staff members were busy with wedding preparations and the restaurant was unmanned at the time of our reservation. When we enquired about dinner with the several staff members preparing the wedding tables, they argued between themselves who was supposed to be serving. We had to wait for a while before being seated - followed by a very slow and inattentive service. Whilst we appreciate weddings are important, they shouldn't be at the detriment to other guests.

It is completely not acceptable the service level you experienced. I will not tolerate any member of my team being inattentive.. You can be rest assured that the person on duty that night will be taken through the disciplinary process for firstly not being ready for your reservation, arguing in front of guests and for being inattentive. Only one Gripe ,I booked through Secret Escapes and was quoted and payed for a top level privileged double room ,I requested a twin room and was told there was no problem. On arrival at the hotel I was given a standard twin not top level privileged room as requested quite a difference in Value of our stay. A refund would be appreciated.

From check-in to check-out all staff were very courteous ,friendly and helpful. We enjoyed 2 excellent meals in the restaurant and 3 hearty full English breakfasts. The room was comfortable and spacious and although it lacked air conditioning in this current heat wave we had the use of an oscillating fan. All in all a very happy experience.

Stay was good but my time there was short. Arrived late evening, about 11 PM and departed early morning so not much time to take advantage of the facilities. Breakfast was good.

The hotel is nice and set in lovely gardens with very friendly staff. Unfortunately there is no air conditioning. At most times of the year this may not be an issue, but it was exceptionally hot during my visit and the room was uncomfortably hot.

staff were very inexperienced & not very helpful. only one towel in bathroom when i booked for 2 guests. the rooms were dated for the money we were charged the hotel & staff do not warrant that fee.

Stayed 2 nights on A special deal to see family. Have stayed before. Very friendly welcome and all the staff extremely curtious and helpful, even reminding us of the roads works on the main bridge into Burton and the best way around it! Such a lovely building (please don't modernise the Public Rooms) bedroom (107) comfortable but just one small criticism, the bathroom was a bit "wee" if only they had put the toilet under the window facing down the room it would make life a lot easier and perhaps a sliding door! Sue in the Dining Room does a wonderful job and again thank you to her staff. We look forward to our next visit.

We've stayed before in Mercure hotels in UK and abroad. This just wasn't up to the standard we expected. For a start, at booking we read a daily B&B rate of £74 but then we were charged almost 100 for the second night. The room had no fridge nor a safe. The basin hot-water tap was faulty and reduced to single drips after 30 seconds; and was the same as we left; no remedy. In the restaurant, we sent back one starter because it was not what we ordered. Then one main course came incomplete and we had to request the missing components. An adjustment was made to the charge, but it was not what we expected in a Mercure Hotel. Overall, it was a disappointment.

It was one of hottest days of the year and as there was no air con the room was hot, the windows were closed on arrival and blanket was fairly thick. Apart from this the stay was pleasant with nice food and good service.
