« Weird and slow »

For a virtually empty hotel which was expecting us, it seemed quite hard to get things done. From check-in to bar service to dinner, skeleton staff was an understatement and everything was incredibly slow.

« Great location, friendly staff and picturesque views »

Me and my girlfriend stayed here for a belated valentines break. The hotel was in the perfect location as we wanted to visit Burton-Upon-Trent and Derby during our time there and it is a short drive to both locations. When we arrived a Murder Mystery evening was in progress which was quite interesting to hear and watch, it didn’t disturb our stay in any way.

The whole experience was best described as basic and disappointing. From the moment we walked in to the time we left. We were waiting at an unmanned reception which was untidy and cluttered for 10 minutes on arrival, all we wanted to do after a long day at work and hours of driving was check in and relax, the restaurant food was very average and not hot, and the rooms were outdated, dirty and generally of a very poor standard. There must have been a contract for factory workers in because there were a number of young workers eating take sways in the bar area, KFC, and Chinese, the smell was terrible and not what I would expect from a stay in a Mercure hotel. It was extremely unprofessional and disappointing, plus our bill was wrong on checkout and they had added a service charge without permission which I asked to be removed.

« Adequate accommodation, no frills »

We stayed for a murder mystery night which was really good fun. The food was nice but there wasn’t a plug next to the bed to enable me to use my cpap machine that I need for my sleep apnea. So we had to rearrange the furniture in the bedroom a little. The room was also in need of some serious updating.

In general the room and hotel were good however. On the first night I wanted to sit in the restaurant but it was closed. I have a bad back and could not sit in the bar especially to eat, there was also no free tables. I ordered room service from bar menu and wasn’t told there was a fee. The second night I was told I would have to wait s considerable time in restaurant ac there was only one chief. ASI has so much work to do I went for room service again. Basically you offer very poor restaurant seating and management and then charge for room service. I questioned it at checkout and just got an argument

There were a few issues that need to be addressed: Reception staff should be more helpful due to fact there is not lift. There are no bedside plugs, an extension lead took nearly an hour to arrive. The bathroom fan is super loud and you can’t turn it off independently from light. Ideally it should have a delay so if you go for a quick pee it doesn’t start, but anything longer then it kicks in. Instead it starts almost straight away and keeps going for ages. All floorboards creek. I get that it is an old building, but when you can hear every move of every guest it is not good. Please screw them down.

The restaurant was great and food very nice but the bedroom was not good. It was tiny, the furniture in the bedroom was tatty and very old fashioned, the shower was poor and the bath was slippery - there was a notice to say a non=slip bathmat was available but I could not see it in the bathroom

« Okay but needs a clean up »

Hotel seemed a bit old and bedraggled. Was only there for about 12 hours but room was shabby and the whole place looked like it needs an overhaul. Very poor car park full of potholes and badly lit.

the rooms are pretty dated and the atmosphere in the bar/restaurant is really stuffy. maybe some better lighting, music and some plants to help break up the space

Beautiful building with old grandma ‘s shocking carpet . Great checking and breakfast service , but clean lady comes to knock our door at 8:45am can’t wait to get us out ( It’s not their fault , it’s no sign to tell them still have guests in the room resting .) Shocking more it’s strange phone calls from middle east man was keep calling to our room . What a beautiful building and great staffs are working there , but expensive room price charged it’s not mach the quality . We won’t stay here again .

Enjoyed the stay, little disorganised at breakfast and the gadsby evening meal was good, but after the meal, out party moved to the bar area for the rest of the evening and we didn`t stay in the function room.
