The room was very clean, bed really comfortable. The staff were lovely very friendly, professional and helpful Hotel overall a bit rundown, but I think they were updating some rooms. We enjoyed our stay, quite a good location.

Booking in great, Room was a little disjointed but that's typical of a converted manor Room was poorly illuminated, the bulb in the free standing light was blown, as was one of the bulbs over the bed, this made studying for an exam difficult. I use medical equipment which requires plugging in, it was disappointing that the ONLY plug sockets available were located on the far wall to the bed, meaning stretching the cable to reach and creating a trip risk. The carpeted floor, especially at the foot of the bed adjacent to the desk was very uneven , again creating issues moving the stool or to some extent walking. As mentioned the seating was a stool, having no back to it the hours of studying with no back support has left me with back ache. Summary Staff were pleasant and not intrusive, the period building was traditional and appeared in good upkeep, but I would not choose this place if you were there to study or if you want power near the bed. I didn't complain as I felt all rooms would be similar and my focus was on studying

Enjoyed ourselves, very helpful and friendly staff, Murder Mystery event very entertaining. Drinks a bit dear but expect that in hotels. Lovely grounds and buildings but could do with a bit of tlc, which is ongoing. Grounds could do with a competent gardener and the room with a conscientious cleaner. Wasn't too happy being woken up at 6-40am by the delivery van reversing warning and thumping and banging below our window. all said and done, enjoyed our stay and would again.

Breakfast was delicious. Room service was good. However, the room in itself needs updating. Mixer taps are essential in a bathroom, so we don't scald ourselves. It was difficult bathing my 3 month old baby with no mixer tap.. A view of the skip outside from the room is also not very pleasant. WiFi never reached our room. So had to use personal data throughout the stay. 12

As a couple my wife and I book these 2 night, dinner first night break, probably 3 times per year with Mercure hotels. When we arrived on the Friday, we were surprised to hear them say we were booked in the previous night (my mistake didn't check my booking paperwork) however the receptionist done very well to accommodate us despite having a wedding booked for the Saturday. All the staff were very nice as usual, very accommodating and pleasant, our room was also ok for our needs. We both enjoyed our 3 course meal ( included in the deal) and one of the best buffet breakfasts I have enjoyed at Mercure.

Upon the arrival the hotel seemed grand. We checked in easy, but soon came to realise everything form the carpets to the furniture and amenities are very dated. This hotel in my mind needs a real good clean and modernising somewhat. The food was beautiful and staff were very friendly

Nice location and friendly, welcoming staff. Bedrooms were adequate and very clean. Unfortunately we stayed during a heatwave and NO rooms had air conditioning, either in the bedroom or throughout the hotel. The bedrooms in particular were very uncomfortable and a good nights sleep wasn't to be had. A private wedding in the function room meant that a quiet, relaxing break away from it all wasn't to be had. We were located right above the function room and had to endure the thudding of a disco until midnight - it would have been better had these rooms been reserved for those wedding guests who were stopping overnight. Rather than use the allocated function room, the guests chose to take over the bar and eat their buffet at the expense of the general paying guests whose needs were basically put to the back of the queue. To make matters worse, the restaurant was closed because of this wedding, despite being advertised on literature and website as being open daily. We were told at Reception that there were 2 pubs in the village, neither of which actually did food and that we'd have to travel into Burton centre to eat. Not a very satisfactory response! The alternative was a basic and very overpriced sarnie from the bar brasserie which tasted more of margarine than its filling. Breakfast was extremely basic and limited. The hotel TV was advertising Christmas 2015 breaks and events - not very up-to-date! We were on a Virgin Experience voucher and we have sent the same feedback to them and certainly wouldn't come back or recommend this particular hotel to anyone.

The whole place is dirty including the bedroom. Wardrobe dusty and radiator filthy. It’s a building site with drilling, banging and non stop noise beyond imagination. How this place could associate itself with the Mercure hotels beggars belief. The building is hunted. Doors being slammed through out the night. Both dinner and breakfast was awful. It was so bad we could have left on the same day if we had driven down.

Our stay at Button on Trent Mercure was ok, but not great! Our bedroom looked out to the back of the hotel, right onto a skip, car park and lorry delivery bay - aesthetically not good and was definitely not acceptable with lorry reversing noise at 5am! We stayed for breakfast at reduced rate of £11, but I felt this was quite expensive - there was no porridge or choice of just paying for a Continental brekky - so if you didn’t want cooked breakfast you still had a pay the full price! On the first morning the chef did make me poached eggs which were very nice. On the plus side the staff were all polite and friendly, the bed comfy and we made our booking through Activity Superstore which made it reasonably priced.

Overall good. We had trouble with the toilet in the room that we figured out. The room was a little small and some parts of the hotel could do with some updating but overall we had an enjoyable stay. Staff were great.

We had a lovely room on the ground floor. We were disappointed by the vegetarian options available. We were also disappointed at how expensive the drinks at the bar were (£7 for a single gin and tonic). The wine we thought was a little overpriced too. It was a wonderful two days and wedding. The event was marred slightly be the Mosquitos which nothing could be done about. However as the problem had been evident for one month we thought the hotel could have provided citronella candles for the outside areas. Luckily the barman had one spray can of mosquito repellant behind the bar which he gladly shared. Overall we did enjoy our stay.

The hotel was generally well kept and the staff were helpful. We did have to make several trips to reception as the room keys often didn’t work. Food was reasonable, good breakfast. Shame the bar ran out of bitter the first evening but a quick sortie and a lovely little local pub was found just a couple of minutes walk away. Although the gardens retain the elegant structure and form of a country house, the flower beds and hedges needed a bit of TLC - as a wedding venue these really should have been immaculate.

The outside grounds of the hotel were fantastic but the inside Was underwhelming , bad directions to our room left us wandering the hotel for 20 mins with cases, The room was very average, rather tired ... with no plugs near the bed .,.and only One bedside table with one lamp working.... my husband required an Irwin the next day as we were guest at a wedding , after waiting an hour when he called back at reception to find out where it was he was then told none were available, he had to go to our friends hotel up the road to get his shirt ironed!!! The next day breakfast was very badly run .. we were told to wait in the bar as there were no tables which is fine but then to find after 20 mins most other guests were just been sent through to the dining room and we were left in the bar completely forgotten about. We have stayed at other mecure properties and found this to be way below the expectations for the hotel group!

Comfortable. Room decor was very dated and requires modernisation. Bathroom wall tiles cracked. No stand alone shower, shower over the bath and not high enough to stand under. Dining room very tired decor with wallpaper peeling and the carpet very dirty. Staff were excellent. Very accommodating and polite.

The staff were all helpful, the dinner was good, breakfast was great and overall it was good value. The room was OK, but looked and felt like it had seen better days, and faced the bins and a skip outside the window. Unfortunately, I was kept awake by the plant room next door and when finally asleep, was woken up by deliveries to the hotel. Also, I’ve never seen so many flies - in both the car park and hostel public areas.
