« pleasant enough but would probably try to avoid if i had to book this hotel next time »

Decoration of the hotel was tired and shabby and the compact room was indeed compact. Whenever a hotel forces a bed against a wall i always feel the room is too small! My room was above the high street, which meant i was kept awake by drunken revellers and then the refuse collectors. The tv on the wall was at 45 degrees to the ceiling and there was no room to position the one chair in the room to be able to eat dinner and watch the telly without using the bed as the table. The sink in the bathroom was that small that the kettle would not fit under the tap, so only half a cup of tea was possible! First world problems i know but when you've driven 7 hours to get to your destinmation it is very frustrating!

The bathroom was disabled one and I would have liked to have known that as I was looking forward to having a bath or shower and it was a cold wet room. Food was good at breakfast but nearly sliced my hand open on a glass that was broken in half

« Great location, staff could have been much more attentiven »

Good location. Room 501 entrance is tiny, both shoulders were almost touching the walls and it was a struggle to get my luggage in. Dinner staff seemed more interested talking to each other than serving so service slow. Shower pressure is poor.

« A very comfortable overnight stay, with a late dinner and a late breakfast - all very relaxing! »

A very comfortable and attractive double room, with a nice little bathroom. Loads of hot water, fresh towels and clean linen. Very helpful and friendly staff. Good food both at dinner and at breakfast. Pretty good value for money.

« Disapointing bathroom, otherwise great room, great staff and great breakfast. »

I was looking forward to staying at the hotel again, but very disappointed by the bathroom refit. I’m not sure who signed these bathrooms off but they certainly didn’t do the “try before you buy” thing because if they had they would have realised that they had wasted lots of the hotels money. Both the overhead shower head and also the hose head fitting we’re both very inadequate. Very poor spread and dispersal of water spray/fan and it made showering very difficult. To top it off, there’s nowhere within the shower to put anything, no shelves or hooks and then to add insult to injury if you are unfortunate enough to need to use the toilet, it was so close to the wall, it was difficult to get on it and stay on it comfortably. The toilet and the shelves I can forgive, but not the poor performing shower. Very disapointing. It’s definitely a case of style over substance and as suitable punishment I would make the person who commissioned it and signed it off, have a shower in it for the rest of their life!

« Comfortable »

Confusion over parking. All disabled places taken by cars not displaying a blue badge. Signs and information conflicting. Light bulb out at side of bed Otherwise ok. Ladies restroom near reception greatly disappointing, locks missing from cubicle doors, out of hand soap, broken dryer obviously not checked regularly and repaired.

« Terrible bathroom and wrong room »

Tiny bathroom, hopeless shower with dangerous step out ion and no stay bar to assist. No shelf for shampoo etc etc inside shower cubicle. No pressure from overhead shower so had to use Hand held device. How do u you squeeze shampoo out of tube on floor of shower, without getting shampoo in your eyes,& later with shower gel. Tired green tiles didn't get any interior design criteria - my job. Try it out yourself, a 2* hotel has better bathrooms - disgraceful. I telephoned from car before restaurant closed to ask if necessary to pre-order 2 plates of cold meats/.cheese and 2 fruit salads. Was told if cold the night porter could provide. On arrival told only possible to order sandwiches from room service menu,. Not what we wanted and most left, Salad not dressed at all. Not riverside room as agreed when I booked with central reservations, we didn't arrive till 1am and wanted undisturbed night;'s sleep. I was woken at 7am by street cleaners and deliveries outside. This also happened when I stayed in June for 3 nights Breakfast was good, Guy who checked us in very helpful together with his "black" colleague. Nothing too much trouble Helpful girl on reception Tuesday Dreadfully tired and dirty basement. Shattered glass in door out to car park Unless I am given a partial refund redeemable at ANY of your hotels this will have been my last ever visit to a Mercure Hotel.

Booked through an itison deal. Very easy and good value for money. Was upgraded to a river view room which had a great view. Hotel was quiet and clean. Staff were lovely especially the breakfast staff.

Weekend visit 10nov 12nov we were in a room room facing the street and could not get much sleep for the noise from the pubs at night. Even though we were on the fifth floor.

« Very cold »

The breakfast in the hotel was very good and with a good selection. I found my room very cold. The radiator was switched off when I arrived and I was unable to get much heat into the room even with the radiator on full. For the second night I was given a supplemental radiator which was on a thermostat again not really as warm as I would have liked although it did kick in through the night. The windows are very draughty and the main radiator does not touch the cold.

Previous stay, no hot water from the shower and no tv remote control. Latest stay, in my room and another guest partly opened my door with a key card (couldn’t open it fully because I had the security chain on) Spoke to a manageress next morning who took details and told me she would ring me after making enquiries, Still waiting for the call!

« Not good. Weekend was spoiled by problems with shower and heating. »

We have already complained to the manager and been given a 25% discount. However, because of the problems with the shower and water pressure (of which the hotel were aware but did not inform us until we tried to have a shower) we will not return. We have stayed before and the refurbishment has done nothing to improve the hotel. The room had no shelves or drawers to store anything. We lived from a suitcase. The dining room was cold on Friday night and had to ask twice for hearing.

« friendly welcome »

a friendly welcome on arrival, Only a couple of issues. I rarely receive my Le Club points The other issue is I wish the rooms would have a choice of pillows, most rooms have 4 pillows but rarely is any of them soft they are all hard like putting your head on a brick, i accept some people like a firm pillow but others like a soft pillow so a choice would be nice

« Had very little sleep on Saturday night due to the noise outside on the Main Street. »

Very nice hotel room was upgraded on the second night due to the lights fusing 3 times in the space of a few hours. Food was excellent bar staff very courteous and polite . Never received our complimentary bottle of wine or our glass of wine with our meal. Bit unfortunate that the noise outside on the Saturday night prevented us having a good nights sleep..
