We think our room was rushed to be finished as the bin in the main bedroom had not been changed. We were asked on checking in to book our table for dinner but when we came down there was no knowledge of it. As the F&B Team could have done with one more team member on both @ dinner and breakfast. But overall, the team was absolutely lovely.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very dated (I stayed in room 43), with paint peeling off the radiator. There was also a noise that we could hear every few minutes throughout the night (we thought it was the radiator, but given that's electric it was probably something else). We would have asked to move, but we were only staying one night. Pool facilities were good.

Automatic doors to reception make it so much easier and having to pull open doors with numerous bags, it's a poor first impression. Dated electric convector heater in the room with a thermostat on the wall which I turned up and went to the bar (minimal choice of real ales) hoping my freezing room would have warmed up, but only looking in more detail on my return did I realise the thermostat on the wall is just there for decoration and there was a dial on the bottom corner of the heater! Breakfast was good after having to wait for a member of staff to notice me waiting. Again no staff, kept waiting to check out.

We wee offered this one night break as a result of a few failures on a previous visit, one of which was the non availability og gluten free bread. Sadly,on this occasion, again there was no gluten free bread available for sunday morning breakfast! Fortunately, I brought some with me.

Room was very dirty. Bed sheets covered in stains. Thick dust. Broken kettle. Broken iron. Dirty bathroom. Expensive food. Tea making facilities used. Will not be returning. Will go to premier inn instead.

I found a bug in my bed the phone did not work and had to go to reception to find no on on duty rang the emergency mobile number to find the phone sitting on reception. No on the bar either it took 30 mins to get someone to deal with me and no real explanation ad to why your hotel was empty of staff.

The whole experience was excellent the staff & service outstanding they could not do enough for us or our guests - IF i had to say something to improve on it would be the heating needed to be better but to be honest thats all i could find - thank you for making it special

Room, Staff were good. Ate in the restaurant for the first time (3rd stay here) food was poor, one colleague sent his back to be changed for a different meal. Wine was poor.

Arrived on a Friday in January, hotel was quiet. Room was booked on a deal and should have been booked with a dinner but was not so I enquired and was told that there was a deal of a £22 meal for £18. I am sure that this would not have been told to me if I hadn't asked. At dinner this menu was not given and had to be asked and then we were charged twice, one full price and one deal price! In addition my beer was not on the till so they overcharged to the next more expensive beer. These were charged to the room and had to sorted out at checkout. The second night we paid cash and the first round was £4.65 but the second round of identical drinks was over £7 and when quiered it went to £4.65 and that was due to the cost of like cordial and the beer not on the till. The rooms go around a large function room and on the second night there was a singing show on, it didn't really affect us but the fact that the receptionist didn't mention it seems odd. The rooms are finished in dark wood with spot light in the ceiling these spots fliker at times, as they do in the bar and restaurant. The shower is awful, really high pressure with a small partly blocked shower head so it feel like pins hitting you with an over friendly shower curtain. The toilet flush needed a few goes, the sink had numerous chips in its glaze and mould on the grout in the shower. I can't comment about breakfast, the first was two of everything with a fried egg on a round plate, proper full English and the second was served on a rectangular plate with chopped parsley sprinkled over it. So who knows what you will get. Staff at breakfast and leisure club really friendly and helpful, receptionist on checkout very good. Other staff ok.

The staff were great and the gym was good. The restaurant didn’t have half what was on the menu and the bar didn’t have the wine we wanted due to running out.

Whilst this hotel appears to have a little history it’s refurbs have been cheaply and sporadically executed. The public areas were carpeted in a variety of themes colours styles and patterns with no continuity and in many parts worn and not particularly clean. The main staircase being a good example.The room was tired and shabby with stains and marks on surfaces, limescale in the sink and towels which whilst clean were well past their best being dingy and thin. One of the lightbulbs in the bathroom was out and the waffle gowns had been used presumably by the previous guest. I requested a replacement of both and on returning to my room there was a new bulb but a different colour and the robes were exactly the same as when I went out. The towels were now missing from the bathroom and a plastic bag containing an equally grey and dingy towel had been placed on the bed. The window frames were Ill fitting and so rattled all night keeping me awake. I fell asleep just as the pumping corridor music started up again outside my room. Breakfast was served in an overly heated restaurant again with loud music served by overly familiar waiting staff. Personally I don’t think it’s appropriate to be constantly and very loudly be addressed as “love and sweetheart” On the whole the staff were friendly and well meaning but it was a constant search for a member of staff whether it be reception check in and out, at the bar (where I was served a flat glass of prosecco for £6) it was replaced when requested in the restaurant where I ended up asking a lady who was from housekeeping if she could find someone who could seat me at breakfast. The whole place could do with a make over to a more traditional and well kept standard.
