As soon as we walked into our room we were hit by a musky smell which failed to clear even with the window open. The room was of decent size, comfortable and clean. We had problems setting the shower to the right temperature. Breakfast was only ok & both mornings they ran out of certain items. Annoying. All the staff we encountered were friendly, efficient and accommodating. We asked if we could access our room slightly early and that was granted. Check-out was a civilised 12 noon.

Sadly not up to the usual standard of a Mercure hotel I have used in the past.

The downside points first: The bathroom door was coming off its hinges and scraping on the floor, the extractor fan did not work, a set of drawers on which the TV stood had not been assembled properly, (it seems that it may have been a flat pack), one drawer not having its runners fitted, left inside the drawer. These points should have been picked up by the daily staff. two of the overhead bedside lights did not work. Our room was not serviced ready for the second night. Friends staying in another room had ceiling paper coming away. Ourother friends were initially allocated a room which was not acceptable due to dirt marks on the carpet and when they struck the sofa clouds of dust arose. They were allocated another room which was very good. The good points: The hotel is a lovely building and in a very pleasant location. The staff were very good at all times. Great breakfast. My feeling is that you need a maintenance person who makes regular checks on all the rooms to see that things are in order and that the room staff report anything wrong to him/her so it can be corrected quickly.

The staff were accommodating but could not recompense for the state of the hotel. To say that the hotel was tired would be an understatement. Although the room we had was clean. The paper was hanging from the ceiling, the door to the bathroom would not close properly, one of the curtains was partially detached from the rail and the carpets were stained. There were litter items on the floor in the corridor to our room that were there from the start of our two night stay to when we left. I can only advise people to avoid the breakfast. We asked for porridge. The first plate that arrived had not been cooked properly and neither was its replacement. I avoided the eggs as they had obviously been in the buffet tray for some time. They ran out of packs of butter on our second morning.

I was very impressed with their dedication to help us. We had a bad experience with another hotel and turned up at 9 and they managed to get us into a room that fit us all in. They were very helpful and it was very appreciated!

A larger than average bedroom with sitting area and fair sized bathroom. Minor problems with a very stiff tap in the washbasin and a toilet that did not always flush at the first ayyempt. Staff were very friendly and helpful whilst bar and restaurant service was fine

We have stayed at this hotel on two previous occasions, as it is very handy to visit West Midlands Safari Park from this location. We have not stayed here for 2 years The Grandchildren love the leisure facilities that the hotel enjoys access too. Let me say from the outset that the staff are fantastic and try to make the best of a bad job. We booked a family room as it provides two large single and full double beds. On entering the room (26) we noticed that we were sharing the accommodation with a family of ants that were very busy trying to move backwards and forwards across the entrance threshold. Moving swiftly into the bedroom it was apparent that the decoration to the room and in fact the rest of the hotel had been left to deteriorate, to such an extent that the wallpaper on the ceiling had had enough and was attempting to roll itself back up and part company with its host. Had it just been us staying we would have quickly left, however as we had the grandchildren with us we decided to stay so they could enjoy the leisure facilities and WMSP. We did ask to change rooms but despite best efforts there was no other available family room. We did not bother with the dinner offerings, but went with the breakfast which to be fair was okay, the waiting staff where very helpful with he children’s meal. This hotel has tremendous potential, it sits in fabulous grounds and its greatest asset are its staff. It’s such a shame that the investment in upkeep and modernization is woefully lacking. Suffice to say, unless and until it improves we will not be retuning...such a shame.

Had a lovely stay, rooms were comfortable and spacious, facilities were great ,daughter loved the pool nearly as much as I the jacuzzi, staff were professional , helpful and friendly, would definitely stay again.

We were slightly disappointed on arrival to find that the hotel was very tired and in need of refurbishment. Not what we expect from A Mecure hotel. We really enjoyed using the gym and pool. Dinner was ok. Breakfast was not good. Poor quality ingredients and over cooked poached egg. Staff were all polite and did their jobs, but didn’t go the extra mile.

We stayed at this hotel a few years ago and thought it was a nice place to stay. During this visit it seems that nothing has changed except the building is becoming tired and the management seem to have lost focus.The restaurant area is exactly the same as it was but worn. Breakfasts ordered were not delivered with the correct items and the pastries on offer were all gone at least an hour before breakfast ended, the table we sat at had a vertical 3 inch movement on each end. Not one of our best experiences and a pity as the building looks impressive from the outside. I think a planned works of improvement would do the interior of the building and the Mecure brand a world of good.

Staff where polite and friendly. The hotel was very hot no air conditioning which was not so pleasant and the fact they had wasp nests meant some windows where kept closed and no available fans. Not many staff available when you wanted serving at the bar there was no means of attracting staff you had to go and look for them.

We were just staying for 2 nights and the price we paid was extremely competitive, so we weren’t expecting too much. However, we were very pleasantly surprised, the accommodation was very clean and more than adequate, the grounds were lovely and the added bonus of the use of the gym and pool. The only suggestion I would give is a more organised breakfast. Both mornings guests were having to ask for the buffet to be replenished and the coffee machine refilled. This was carried out by a lovely, friendly waitress, but it should not be necessary for guests to have to make staff aware of shortages. A minor complaint but you did ask! Would certainly go again though.

The hotel did not meet the standard I would expect for £175 a night. Not only was the decor dated, but own room overlooked the car park on ground floor level meaning we had no privacy unless the curtains were closed. Worst of all though the room was not clean. There was dust and hair throughout and clearly had not had a deep clean in some time.

Room that I was allocated was the attic. Extremely hot and no window to speak of to open.

The staff when you could find them were very polite and helpful. The hotel itself was clean but as I have mentioned the room I was allocated was no more than an attic room and up 3 flights of very narrow stairs, not good when trying to get luggage up there. First morning had to wait for breakfast because the chef hadn't arrived. There was also wasp nests around the hotel which speaking to other hotel guests they had been there a while. I feel as a business the hotel should have contacted a private company in to sort out the problem and not rely on the public health

Fine for a one night stay to attend a wedding

We only stayed one night and didn't use any of the facilities. The staff were excellent, thank you. The room was fine for the purpose of staying over for one night to go to our friends wedding, however, the room we had may now be in need of a refresh, it was starting to look tired - wallpaper peeling for example. It didn't bother us as the hotel was convenient.

I enjoyed my stay at the mercure, however we had alot if wasps in our bridal room and noticed alot if dead wasps on the stairs. Also I booked a family room which was the furthest room away up the stairs, which was abit of a struggle with small children. When we went down for breakfast we was told the chef was running late so there was no hot breakfast, which was no good as we had a wedding to get ready for so could wait for the chef to turn up , we went without a hot breakfast. Also the following morning for breakfast we had to wait for someone to bring beans out which took a while and then the sausage ran out. Overall it was ok beds were comfy so slept well, but think breakfast was pretty poor and the wasps in the rooms and dead on the stairs wasn't very good.

The staff were very friendly and helpful made us feel very comfortable. The facilities in the hotel room were very dated. Windows that could not open, broken chair legs causing chair to be unbalanced and some light switches and plug sockets were faulty or did not work. The rooms were relatively clean and our room was spacious. Pity about minimal tv channels location however was good and a peaceful setting to stay in. Lastly there were a lot of wasps all over the hotel from the lobby to the hallways and when windows were left open many flew into our room.
