We booked an overnight stay for ourselves and our daughter on 2 Feb, as we wanted to visit our elder daughter currently studying at Ayr Uni. We had hoped for room 662 as we loved the views from there when we stayed before and it had a separate room for our daughter. This was classed as a superior room though so to secure it we'd need to pay extra. Unfortunately we had a tight budget so couldn't, so agreed on a family room instead. Imagine our delight on arrival to find out we had been allocated room 662! It really made our weekend and we do class it as a weekend when we visit as the deal we booked allows us a late check out at 3pm so lots of time on the Saturday and the Sunday to appreciate the coastal views.

Nice welcoming staff. Lovely clean room which was a great size with great leisure facilities, again with welcoming staff. Manager is the restaurant at night was exceptional meeting a few fussy eaters needs. Compliments all round. Looking forward to staying again in the near future.

Couldn't fault the hotel,staff,rooms and cleanliness only thing that stopped me giving it full marks was how different the breakfast buffet has went downhill.The great thing about getting up and going down to have breakfast was the selection of items to choose from in the past..yogurt drinks,constant supply of cooked items (which some were cold when we went down) more selection of cereals and more pastries.

We came to relax and that’s what we did. Slightly noisy with work from the next building as we were facing the car park , and there was cars in the bottom level of the car park playing loud music at night But we enjoyed our stay.

Great hotel. Staff pleasant and very welcoming. Hotel rooms are great, beds very comfortable and all mod cons available. Only thing that lets it down is the food. Having stayed at this hotel numerous times I have to say this particular stay was very disappointing. I used to look forward to breakfast in the mornings, there was so much to choose from and it always looked appealing.... however, on this occasion it was dreadful. Everything now cramped in one corner, no orange juice out, no water, no bread in basket, empty warm plates with no hot food available, no staff around, it really was not the usual standard. After asking for everything we wanted, and after quite a wait, we got our food but could not even eat it. The hot food looked and tasted like it had been cooked a few days ago and the mushrooms were black and dripping with water/oil substance.. unfortunately we had to leave hotel and go buy breakfast elsewhere. Please get back to your old standard, its such a shame this really let us down. Day 2 at the hotel was exactly the same and we even ordered food to be cooked fresh. My partner asked for Scrambled egg on toast and was told to go and make his own toast and she would ask the chef to make some eggs. The toast was you can imagine was limp and cold when the eggs arrived in a small bowl with water at the bottom. My cooked breakfast yet again looked like it had been sitting under a hot plate for days, dried up, hard egg yolks (I had particularly asked for soft) and black mushrooms. Needless to say we left it and ate out again. Such a shame. Im hoping things improve as we love staying down in Ayr and the Mercure has always been out favorite.

Found the staff to be really friendly and welcoming. The hotel itself is dated and in need of improving but the room was clean and a good size. We were kindly moved rooms due to first room door handle falling off. The second room was a superior room g However The bath panel was badly peeling off. The food in restaurant was nice, service was excellent. Found breakfast to be ok, would have preferred individual pots of yogurt however the kitchen made me fresh poached eggs which was appreciated. Over all not a bad stay and staff are a credit to the experience.

£54 per nt incl breakfast so a good price, Room(660) a wee bit tatty but bed was clean and very comfy. Shower just ok as far as volume of water. No ironing board or iron and could not phone down as phone broken so called on mobile. At 5.30 pm took 30 mins to arrive. Decent breakfast and although only moderately busy it did take some time for things on the buffet to be replenished but at least they were fresh. Pleasant relaxed bar and dining room and pleasant staff. £3 for parking, numbers limited. Good value for what I paid

We arrived just before 8:25 pm on Saturday night. Reception staff were helpful when checking us in. On reaching our room it was found to be of a very tired appearance, the furniture was widely chipped and banged. In the bathroom the bathmat and grouting were stained . We had a table booked for 8:30 pm and on arriving in the dining room found ourselves the only diners. I had stated on booking our dinner reservation several days before that I was vegan but there were no vegan options on the set menu we were given so I was only able to have soup. My son's meal also looked unappetising and his dessert was a very dry piece of sponge heated up in a microwave . No booking should have been taken if you weren't going to be able to provide decent, appropriate food. The promised bottle of wine on arrival was also missing and only given to me after I asked in the morning. Breakfast was also very basic. All in all a very disappointing experience. I will not be returning and will be telling my friends and family to avoid as well.
