I stayed in one of the suite rooms and it was fantastic, had everything I needed and forgot to take away with me. Bed was brilliant and the room was fully equip. Reception was brilliant and helpful. Only down sides were that some of the staff seemed like they would be anywhere other than working there and atmosphere was quite bitter at some points. Also alcoholic beverages were very expensive at the bar.

Myself and my partner had a great stay. We were there for 2 nights. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant the first night and the food was good. We were served by Morag who was lovely. The hotel could do with an update as it’s dated but it was clean and the beds are comfy.

Checkin and welcome team were really efficient and friendly, gave us good local advice and supplied me with an iron and ironing board quickly when asked. Checkout was just as good. Room was on the ground floor and was actually pretty quiet, spacious, and cleaned each of the days I stayed. I would stay again, however I had 2 experiences which due to timings I didn't raise, but will feedback. We had dinner in the restaurant on the first night of our stay as we were late arriving, so didn't want to go out. We both ordered the seabass on the specials menu and I wish I had taken a photo, and complained, as we got what I can only describe as not even half a dried fillet, a handful of green leaf and some new potatoes. We stayed for 3 nights and this was our most expensive and poor quality meal as we ate out the following 2 evenings. And secondly when I was leaving my room and checking out, I had a quick tidy around and realised one of the pillows (4 on the bed) had dried blood stains and as I didn't have time to make a fuss I did drop this in the bath with my used towels, hopefully this was fedback. Overall 2 poor experiences didn't ruin the stay or put me off returning, but I wish I had fed these back live to give the hotel a chance to resolve, I will do next time (if I encounter any).

Our stay in Livingston was planned as we did not want to stay in Edinburgh itself, but out where the "real people" are. Very handy to bus transport, with a shuttle available at the door to Heathrow Airport. The hotel itself was very pleasant to stay in. The staff were extremely helpful, with tips on where to go and importantly how to get there. Staff members who rate a special mention are Angela, who made us feel like family, Louise, who helped out with our printing needs, and Danielle, who was lovely. We would definitely stay again if in the area.

Smelly room + hard bed

The bed was horrid, as were the pillows. The bathroom smelt as though someone had used it 5 minutes prior to me checking in, very unpleasant.

I booked two rooms through booking.com then cancelled it as I got a cheaper deal at the same hotel. I was charged for the four rooms (2as a no show) the hotel was very unhelpful. I am still trying to get a payment of £284 back. The hotel didn’t ask me about the other rooms when I arrived or try to check me into the other 2rooms. I only found out about this oversight when I got charged again when I got home. It was already a stressful visit as I was there because my mum was in hospital. As it was an unexpected visit I didn’t budget for it. Let alone to pay for rooms twice.

Stayed with my grandson for three nights. Comfortable beds in a clean classic room. Breakfast was a bit hit and miss, with no fruit, yogurt, or pastries on occasions due to the influx of coach parties who ate an early breakfast. Should have been replenished for guests who didn't want to rise early, and didn't want a cooked breakfast. I paid for breakfast but my choices were limited through no fault of my own. I am on holiday and I will not rise at the crack of dawn to get a good choice of food at breakfast. We ate at 8.30a.m. a good hour before breakfast stopped. I would have understood this policy if we had eaten nearer to the breakfast deadline. The restaurant food was excellent with a comprehensive menu for younger diners. The spa was an added bonus. I would visit again but please sort out the breakfast issues. It made me feel that I was not as valued as a guest as the obviously lucrative coach parties. business.

Whilst the staff were friendly, the bed comfortable and the food acceptable (we only ate breakfast), the hotel carpets were thread bare in places our window frame contained a lot of black mould and our other couple in our party had the same experience despite changing rooms when’s their was full of flies and not just dead ones, which would have been bad enough. The bar and reception are were in a reasonable condition.

Hotel was in a good location for visiting Edinburgh. The room was basic but comfortable but there was no lift and the stairs were an issue for ladies our age. They did not try to accommodate us on the ground floor when asked. Some of the reception staff need to learn how to smile a little. Otherwise ok.
