I travelled with a group of 7 work colleagues and stayed one night. The group reservation person, Christine, was very helpful and communicated well as we had to make a lst minute booking. On arrival after travelling to York from Cornwall we did not have a good start. The check in was awkard as the reception staff had us booked as room only but we had booked bed and breakfast. They were adamant that they would have to charge a further £11 for breakfast for each person. They were insistant that they were right. I phoned and asked my office to forward the email to confirm that breakfast was included. The receptionists reluctantly conceded that breakfast was included. Dinner was very good but I was charged £9.50 for one glass of wine. I felt this was over priced as it was a basic wine and cost over half of the cost of dinner. I regretted not asking the price before ordering. The next day I wanted to reach a colleague and asked if reception could tell me her room number and was told that she could not give out room numbers, which was understandable, and so I asked her to call the colleague's room. She tried to call the room but instead called another reception line and so she impatiently wrote the room number on a small corner of a piece of paper and handed it to me. On check out I asked for an print out for all 8 rooms to show my business card payment and was told that the recpetionist could only print out each guest including their own bill for dinner and any drinks. They had paid for these seperately and so I did not need this information. I wanted a receipt of the spend for 8 rooms accommodation and breakfast. I think the reception desk let down the rest of the stay at the Mercure. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. We were pleased to be accommodated and enjoyed the food.

The room was very average for the cost. Guest rooms seem a little ‘tired’. We booked and paid for room and breakfast in advance. When we checked in we found that we needed to leave before breakfast would be served and no effort was made by staff to remedy the situation. We asked for a refund of the proportion of room cost that related to breakfast and this was declined. We were given the option of buying room service breakfast. There had been no advice on the website at the time of booking that breakfast would start at 8am and if it had we would have booked room only knowing we needed to leave at 7:45 to catch a train to the airport.

I've stayed here before, I like the relaxed helpful atmosphere, it's close to York but in a small village/country location near the R Ouse and just off the ring road and is quiet. Food is good quality and staff helpful and friendly. Rooms are capacious and the beds comfortable. The lobby, bar and lounge areas are really well laid out and welcoming. No complaints at all.

Poor practice at reception on arrival. Problem with putting meal booked on arrival on bill due to poor practice at reception. On signing out discovered money charged for meal and drinks incorrect. Receptionist made excuses and agreed to go through paper receipts could not justify claimed amount so issued a refund. A four star hotel should have robust procedures at arrival and charging costs to a client's bill.

« Overall the experience was ok. »

Our stay this time was ok; the staff as always are very attentive. We stayed in a Privilege Room again; I did ask for a room with a better view (from previous room) when booking, however, this wasn't the case. I didn't raise it when we arrived as it seem somewhat petty. We've stayed at the hotel a few times over the past 14 years. We've noticed some changes; it's a shame in the morning that Coffee/Tea isn't provided in Pots as it used to be and also that Toast also is now help yourself. I don't know maybe it's how things progress, but it's a shame given it's a 4 star hotel.

Unfortunately we were very disappointed because we were hoping for a relaxing weekend away without the children + my birthday weekend. We arrived about 4pm ready to go for a swim and relax & chill, but then found out that the spa area was NOT on the hotel premises. We were informed that we would need to drive onto there. After leaving home that morning and having the day out we just wanted to settle down to relax then go to our room later to get ready for our evening meal. I booked this particular hotel because of spa facilities, so we were extremely disappointed and we payed the extra because of the service that we thought was provided. The hotel should give this information out to all their customers before booking.

Staff very good all areas, room was large but may be in need of redecorating. Food in the restaurant good quality. Hotel in good position near to park and ride with plenty of parking spaces. Just felt all areas of hotel in need of upgrading.

From reception to cleaners the staff at this hotel offer a customer service of an exceptional standard they need to be congratulated this is rare the hotel itself is very high quality the area it is in is 3/4 mile from park and ride so easy to get into York there are pubs and restaurants on the doorstep but the food at the hotel is amazing and unlike alot of hotels the prices are very reasonable this all added to us having a lovely weekend break and we need to thank you and your staff for making it so

I’m a man of very few words. So I’ll keep it short and sweet. Upon walking in, the room looked lovely and spacious. With a very big and comfy bed.... it looked relatively clean upon first inspection. As I was to look more closely there seemed to be a lot of mucky marks on the walls and a terrible odour coming from the bathroom. After a brief stay in the room to get settled in. Upon going back to the room I seemed to have 5 minutes of trouble gaining entry back to my room. To which some rude individual from another room tried to point out that I must be trying for the wrong door. She soon made for a hasty departure when it finally opened. Also in the room there looked to be a big stain on the carpet to just the left of the window, and not to forget the creaky floor boards on every inch of my journey to and fro my room. About the only thing I could say that was positive about the stay is your pleasant staff

The only positives were the food and size of the room. There was no ice for 2 days of the stay for any drinks which was extremely disappointing. Our meal we booked in the evening was moved to a very dark ‘oak’ room to which we had to ask for more lights to be put on so we could see what/where we would be eating. Only one waitress on that evening, we were delayed for so long between our courses that in the end we upped and left without ordering dessert, tea and coffee or any more drinks because the wait was so long. This was extremely poor. Very disappointed and the Mercure York is not the same standard as the other Mercures we frequently stay at. We were hoping to return with additional family members later on in the year, we would not return or recommend this hotel.

Our overall experience of staying at the Fairfield Manor Hotel has been mainly positive. We booked a two night stay there, as we wanted to stay near to the centre of York. Easy check in by friendly receptionist. Room large & comfortable. Very clean with large double bed & tea & coffee making facility. Breakfast & evening meals were excellent, as were the restaurant staff. My score of 7 would have been higher, but unfortunately the bar & restaurant areas were very cold. I know it was exceptionally cold out, but the heaters (air con) were blowing cold! I did mention it to the staff & they apologised & a small fan heater was brought into the restaurant, which did nothing (too small for the large area). However, we would stay there again in the warmer weather. Think the hotel needs to address why cold air was blowing out. At least our room was warm.
