« Deteriorating hotel »

Have stayed several times over the years and have noticed steady decline in state of rooms and level of service. Room furniture is shabby (edge of bedside cabinate missing laminate, stained carpets and so on). Asked for bath mat at reception.... it didn’t arrive. Breakfast was ok.

This was purchased through the virgin media experience days. I feel the room and service was not worth the price paid for the voucher. I paid £130 for the voucher, yet when we checked the following day the same booking was for £70 B&B. The staff were very rude (The receptionist upon booking and the night staff). Staff were very unprofessional, we could over hear discussions among staff that were not appropriate within a work setting. The room itself was disappointing for what we paid, I think £70 per night B&B is an acceptable amount to pay for the room quality. The bathroom was very basic and the bed was very uncomfortable. Breakfast service was also less than satisfactory, food was not hot and the food preparation/storing area was not the most hygienic. My partner is disabled from a previous spinal injury and was made to use two floors of stairs to access the room because the lift was out of order. There were some good points, the hotel decor was relaxing and warming, however, there were many outdated parts (The dining room). Some staff (very few) were friendly, professional and engaged with the customer. Overall, I unfortunately would not recommend this hotel to a friend or family and would not stay here again.

Not sufficient coffee making sundries in the room. Room not serviced at all for second night of stay. Reported to reception who just went and got two clean towels and some coffee. Cocktails on bar menu but bar staff not able to mix them. Very disappointing.

« Ok but wouldnt go back »

Got to the hotel got told you were fully booked. My booking was not done. So i didnt have a room. After 15-20 minutes was given a twin room. Which didnt have air condition even though the room i booked did say it had. In the room the kettle wire was not long enough and had to hold in my hand while the Water boiled. The walls room were strong enough and I could hear the people in the other room. The person when i went for breakfast rude and blanked me. But answered the person after. Overall I would not be staying again. Also I would suggest that you not affiliate with expedia the women said its not the first time it's happened when you get confirmation and turn up with no room.

The privilege room was okay, except for needing redecorations or at least remediation (peeling wallpaper, chipped furniture, broken tap in bathroom) so dread to think what a standard room would have been like. The service was poor with toiletries, towels and coffee being replaced erratically if at all and not being able to book a table in the restaurant for our preferred time. Only good things were the location (but as traffic was awful all around York, we spent a lot of time in the car anyway) and the free wifi which worked faultlessly.

The stay was wonderful - comfy and quiet and the opportunity of a late breakfast was welcome. Sadly, I e mailed prior to arrival to ask if there was a room we could get changed in as we were going to the races and therefore our room wouldn't be ready before we left but was told to have access to a room to get changed in would cost £20! This is a disappointment for such a wonderful hotel otherwise and as such we had to get changed in the toilets which wasn't the most dignified. For a room costing in excess of £1600 surely an available room for five minutes should/could be arranged.
