« Good apart from the cooked breakfasts and dinners in the bar »

This is a spacious hotel well located on the A19 and near the Park and Ride with ample parking. The staff are polite and helpful. A problem with the shower was rectified immediately. The evening meals were excellent though we would have preferred them in the restaurant. The only other disappointments were at breakfast where there was no grapefruit juice and poor cooking of mushrooms and scrambled egg.

The room was very good. It was disappointing that the gym and sauna etc were such a distance from the hotel. We had an evening meal in the restaurant which was completely tasteless however the dessert was lovely. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

Having booked our one night stay a long time ago we arrived 2.00 p.m.in December the check in was very efficient and friendly, but when we arrived in our room[ 406] in the annex we found it extremely cold, the radiator had been turned off and there wasn't a radiator in the corridor, as the room was quite large it did take a few hours to warm up as it was a very cold day. Once warm it was very comfortable clean and spacious, It was just a pity that no-one had thought to turn on the radiator for our arrival.

« The Acquired Experience at Mercure York »

We booked the hotel for an over night stay during traveling to visit family over Christmas break. After we checked in - we discovered the hotel and our bedroom which looked 1950s or beyond! Squawky floor and ancient decoration left it certain charm. Sadly, I found that the hotel didn't meet the standard when I asked the reception for some lotion or vanity set. She said no. But lucky when I asked for decaf tea bags - she said yes! However, I had to go to collect them myself. I didn't mind at all as I was only 29 weeks pregnancy! However, the next morning, we had a pleasant and friendly service and decent breakfast. The staff were very enthusiastic and helpful. We didn't have to wait to be served very long at all.

« exellent accommodating staff »

Stayed over for Christmas with the family so we didn't use all of the facilities but the interaction we had with the staff was very good. The only reason we didn't give a 10 was because the bedrooms were a little bit tired, but very clean and quite acceptable for a few days break.

« A very enjoyable Christmas break »

Our first Christmas away from home so a certain amount of nervousness. We chose Fairfield because we knew the food was good and we were delighted with every meal. The staff were excellent and the location allowed us to walk into York on Christmas day and drive to northallerton on Boxing Day to see the hunt leave.

« Did not experience any WOW factor »

Wonderful attractive building from outside and very nice inside public areas. Bedroom very functional but toilet seems 'tired' - good shower but high step over bath to get into with no steadying rails to assist. Reception apologised for room not being serviced on 1 Jan, fresh towels were promptly delivered on our return at 9:30 ish. Breakfast struggled on both 31 & 31 December, running out of re-set tables, cups, glasses, orange juice, hot buffet food. Breakfast food was good but nothing special, quality is very important. Snow fell and lay during our stay and we did suggest it should be cleared from at least the front door, attempt made on 2nd day of asking.

Hotel fantastic,prices at bar different every time i went to order same drinks and on exit they tried to charge me for bottle of wine i did not have was very annoyed about this dont even drink white wine.Spoilt things for us.

The hotel decor is very tired and in need of a good referb. Plumbing requires work as reported during stay. Strange that sink took a long time to empty but very did not.

« Lovely stay overall. »

The room was lovely, service was excellent. Was disappointed with the room service. The pizza myself and my partner had wasn't very nice and being out of the city meant we couldn't go somewhere else easily for food. We were also awoken a few times during the night due to loud bangs. Other than that we had a pleasant stay.
