We stopped a couple of nights as it was bought for me as a present, the stay, Staff, Hotel was very good and could not fault the place, the trouble with a lot of people they go into any stopping overnight Hotels / B&Bs looking for fault, we never have, never will.

We stayed at this hotel for a four night break. It is conveniently located just five minutes from the Park & Ride into York, although there are regular buses to the centre of York which stop right outside the hotel. The hotel is mainly an old building on two floors, with limited accommodation for the mobility impaired, although we suspect its listed status means there is not much that can be done about this. We do not believe there were any lifts. We had booked a privilege room (415) which was large and comfortable, in effect a suite with separate sitting room, bedroom and bathroom. There was plenty of storage and TVs in both the bedroom and sitting room. The one disappointment was the bathroom which had only a very small shelf for our toiletries, washbags etc. This shelf sloped downwards towards the front which caused some items to fall to the floor. Aesthetically this might have been so the shelf matched the other bathroom fittings, but the answer might be to have a longer glass shelf securely fixed to the wall so it didn't slope downwards. Otherwise the bathroom was fine, with good water pressure which filled the bath very quickly. The bed was comfortable and we had four good nights' sleep. The biggest disappointment was the restaurant. The ambience was very nice and the staff pleasant, but the food was, at best, average. Apart from soggy and limp chips, there seemed to be a tendency to smother dishes in seasoning, which then took away the taste. This was particularly true of the chicken and mushroom stroganoff, where the gherkin completely overpowered it and it was not enjoyable to eat. Breakfast was better, although we felt the choice of cooked food was a little limited. We would recommend this hotel for its location and accommodation but, sadly, do not feel we can recommend the restaurant.

The hotel could do with a little face lift...creaking floor boards, there was only one towel between 2 which I have never experienced and no fridge.... these are only minor as the overall look of the hotel is lovely and the customer service is great, cannot fault the staff

« The room was very nice, the service not so much. »

On arrival I asked about the welcome gift and golf package which I'd ordered through the Accor website. I was told this hotel does not do that. After much discussion a compromise of a half price green fee only was offered. In addition to this, the evening bar staff appeared to be disinterested. Breakfast was ok. The room was very nice.

« A very pleasant stay »

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Started well when we arrived on Thursday 12th July 2018. The gentleman on reception was excellent, unfortunately I can't remember his name, I do know he is going to Benalmadena on holiday in a couple of weeks. He sorted our reservation out quickly and then showed me where our room was which is necessary as you could easily get lost in the maze of passages. Our room was excellent, very comfy bed, nice and spacious with a large bath, which suited my wife down to the ground. One observation though was that the windowsills needed cleaning as there were quite a few dead flies on them. Meals were excellent and cooked to a very high standard, if I have one complaint it would be that at breakfast teapots could be provided because if it's one thing I have it's teabags in a cup, that is not my idea of making a good cup of tea!!

Our room was dark and very hot with one small fan,because we were on the ground floor we could not open a window and we had scaffolding outside our window with workmen early in the morning.Our room was not serviced very well either as the bathroom tissues were not replaced neither was the shower gel I would hope never to go back to this place again.

Decor in the room was dated and bathroom was not sufficiently cleaned. Extractor fan stayed on for several minutes & couldn't be turned off, so trips to the bathroom in the night would wake my partner. The doors on other rooms were extremely loud when closing and woke us on several occasions. Bed was very comfortable though and breakfast was pleasant.

2nd visit to Fairfield , had groupon offer bed , breakfast , evening meal , bottle of prosecco, afternoon tea everything just as good , spotlessly clean room , staff so friendly & helpful . Smooth check in . Had the bottle of prosecco with evening meal , a little left over & waitress gave us fresh glass to take to room with us . Breakfast good assortment . Went into york then came back mid afternoon to have the afternoon tea which was also lovely . Certainly will be visiting again . Nice when staff recognised us from our previous visit in April

Booking in at reception wasn’t a problem. Extremely quiet. Our room was nice, a bit dated. Our bed was comfortable. Sunday breakfast was terrible. We arrived at restaurant just after 9am. Cooked breakfast was so dry where it had been left. Redeemed Monday. Breakfast was delicious and even had a choice of eggs! Was this because new general manager was at hotel? May I suggest you Put in place a record of what room you provided an iron & ironing board too. We asked for one and reception couldn’t get one as didn’t know what rooms had them. We asked again following morning, luckily, we got one.
