« Lovely break »

We booked a superior suite, it was lovely, a little dated, but decor fitted in well with the old building. Had breakfast and dinner which was lovely, the service was smashing. Unfortunately we had a fire alarm, which resulted in evacuation early morning. When questioned what happened we were informed the smoke alarms are very sensitive & it was the steam from a shower which resulted in the fire alarm going off .

This is the third time we have stayed at the Fairfield manor and although we had a lovely weekend it was not as satisfactory as the first time we visited. Firstly the rooms are becoming a bit dated now and the complimentary biscuits with the tea and coffee are no longer, the breakfast option has also been reduced as you use to get tea and coffe served at the table but now you have to pour your own from a machine also my favourite smoked fish breakfast is no longer available. Staffing levels seem to have been reduced and when we came back from York after a busy day we found we could not get into our rooms, we went back to reception to inform someone but there were no staff on reception so my husband had to go and find someone to help only to be told “well we do have a wedding on today” which made us feel as paying customers that we were not as important as other guests. After all that we did have a lovely stay and William in the restaurant and bar as always gave us good service with a smile. Please bring back those little extras as it does make a difference.

« A return visit to this lovely hotel on the edge of York »

My wife and I had a lovely time, well looked-after by the staff throughout our stay. The only minor issue was the very poor internet signal: I had to come down into the Reception area to be able to access the signal.

The entrance and all areas are very welcoming and smart. All members of staff were very friendly and helpful, could not do enough for us. Good choice of menu, quality of food excellent. Room was very clean and tidy, cleaned daily. We would definitely stay there again.

« Fire alarm »

We only briefly stayed in the hotel on Sunday 11 February, everything was quick and easy as in getting booked in and been showed to our room. Unfortunately at approximately 830am the fire alarm sounded, normally I wouldn't comment or be dissatisfied but I got a strong impression that this was a regular event. We were told that the " firemen don't normally take long" and " somebody has probably left the shower on in the room and the alarms are very sensitive " . Surely if this is the case the alarms should be adjusted so customers are not put in the car park half dressed in the freezing cold. Other than that the hotel is positioned in a nice spot away from the hustle of the city and easily accessible.
