Three night stay. Comprising breakfast and then out for the whole day.

Unfortunately it was the most disappointing stay in Edinburgh we have had. We where so looking forward to staying at the mercure as the location and views are amazing. When we arrived at 2 pm for check in we where informed that our room was not ready. We then left and returned at 3pm room still was not ready we eventually came back at 5’30 and yes we got into our room then. We where advised that the only sitting left for our eve meal was 8’30 which we could not believe as we had at 2’30 booked our meal for 7’30. That was ok not a big deal until we came down for our meal at 8’30 to get told that our dinner table was not ready and we could wait at the bar the noise in dining room was unbearable we could not even speak as we could not hear each other voices. At 8’50 we went back over to ask about our table and again where told our table was still not ready. Eventually at 9’30pm my husband went back over to the manger at the desk and again said we where still waiting our eve meal he then walked us over to a table situated right next to the large speaker at DIsco area I said this is just not acceptable he then walked us over to a table at the back which was empty and then took a further 20mins to get our order to a waiter we still could not hear ourselves speak it was just awful by the time we had our meal which I left as it was now to late for me to enjoy. It was too late to venture out to markets. We went back up to our room and watched tv There was some party going on in the room next door (group of females) playing loud music laughing very loudly obviously and twice through the night out door got chapped with other girls looking for the room next door. I am so disappointed that a hotel with such a great view and location had such poor customer service. It ruined my husband and I’s annual trip to Edinburgh.

« Does the job »

Does the job but rooms really need updating.

« An enjoyable stay. »

Staff were all very friendly and helpful. The accommodation was adequate and acceptable for the price paid. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable.

Breakfast chaotic! Toaster needs to be set away from breakfast buffet as it creates a massive queue. You should also have 2 toasters!! Room 495 dark and gloomy!

« Friendly place in optimal position »

Many thanks to Raoul , front desk , who was extremely kind and helpful

« Disorganised »

Delayed check in as it was 'very busy', this should have been anticipated. Badly layed out breakfast buffet causing excessive queueing. Toilets in reception most unusable due to broken locks.

« Very pleasant overnight stay »

Ideally situated for the Christmas Market.

« Good but not great »

Long queue for check in. Could be better managed. Smelly shower curtain. Mouldy above window.

« It was ok »

Good. But didn’t find the bed very comfy. And room got too hot in middle of night .couldnt open window there was a lot of road noise at night. Breakfast wasn’t great. Queuing for quite a while . Which is the last thing you want when you want a cup of tea and your breakfast. There was a long queue for hot food. A lot of items like cereal. Milk. Orange juice was all finished I had to ask for more. The pastries could of been done with being warm and fresh. Coffee wasn’t good.

« Good, but not as good as previous stay. »

4 of us stayed using an itison deal. The value is outstanding, a couple of minor issues with queuing to be seated for dinner and breakfast, however the hotel was busy and the staff were working extremely hard, food was good but dinner portions were not quite as generous as on previous occasions. One of our rooms (453)was very warm and the windows didn't open but not unbearable.Overall though these a small issues and would certainly not put me off booking again.

Good service, good food, tired room (but we were on a special offer), overall enjoyed our stay . Johanna in the brasserie was very good, great service

« Overall stay was surprisingly poor all round. »

Door key fit wrong room, room was very basic to say the least and very tired drastically in need of a facelift. Waited for 20mins in a queue for breakfast then had to queue for food and a inadequately sized breakfast buffet for the size of the hotel/Guests.

« Ideal location and great price! »

Ideal location and the bag drop off service means you can get straight out and enjoy the city. Stayed in a triple room and we each had a proper single bed. excellent value and thoroughly enjoyed the weekend.

« Xmas »

Very pleasant. Room was maybe a bit tired but for what we paid we have no complaints. Breakfast was great. I wasn't keen on the coffee but that is my preference.

« Dissatisfied »

One night stay and we didn’t get checked in until after 3pm . Room very dissapointing because of the toilet seat was burst and the taps were broken . We were offered a second room and same situation with the toilet and also the extraction system was very loud which would of been hard to sleep in . Finally got a 3rd change by the staff member Scott who was very professional, the room was excellent but unfortunately in the morning the shower did not work - reported to reception but they didn’t seem interested . All this for a one night stay which was given by our daughters for a gift ruined our weekend especially when we have stayed in this hotel before in York which was excellent.
