« Comfortable hotel in a convenient location »

Check-in was swift and our room was ready before official check-in time. Room was a bit tired looking but clean and tidy. Dinner was tasty and the view from the restaurant was fantastic. Breakfast was also tasty. The restaurant is very spacious which is a rarity these days - I enjoyed being able to eat without the people in the neighbouring tables being right on top of me.

All staff were very friendly helpful & professional. Nothing was to much trouble and during our dining experience they were very good at explaining the options & information about their product was high.

« disappointing for the money paid »

Hotel is not accessible to wheelchair users. I had phoned ahead to check this, and was not told about the step to the front door or the 4 steps to the lift area. I was offered the use of 2 ramps but both were far too steep to be used safely.

« Well situated but needing clearly refreshing of carpets , curtains and bathrooms... all looking and smelling old... notably bar and dining area.  »

Great situation.. but needs updating. Bar and dining area is old and carpets, upholstery need updating... small sold.. also rooms... carpets, upholstery and curtains need changing as does the bathroom updating.

« Very nice but tired and a bit shabby. »

Staff friendly and efficient, good food and service in restaurant. Good view from our room and very convenient for city. Room was clean but really needed a return. Furniture was shabby, no air-con, bathroom bit mouldy, extractor not working. We enjoyed our stay but for price room was a bit basic and tired looking.

« Mr »

It was a pleasant experience and an enjoyable stay. The staff are prompt and very Intentive to your needs. The room was extremely well presented and provided with great facilities making the stay feel very relaxing. The hotel restaurant for either breakfast or evening dining was a great experience too with staff again attending and overseeing all was perfect. The menu is also highly recommended with beautiful foods and drink too choose from. Overall a brilliant stay and made for an excellent trip. Highly recommended

The stay was very good we thought it was a little bit expensive for one or two things (like evening meals ) but the room was very nice and the view from the room was extremely good. For me and my wife that are pensioners it was nice to be pampered

« Very good stay »

The reception had welcoming friendly staff. The room was clean and had great views . A little noise as one of the windows didn't shut properly but the views made up for that . The dinner was ok not that good and breakfast was cold that's what happens with buffet type breakfast.

« Good basic hotel in the centre of Edinburgh »

We always get a Superior room for the view and the balcony. It’s not worth eating at the hotel as the food is mass produced. Adequate but unimaginative. The staff are young and attentive but I was concerned when our wait person at dinner was unsure of the menu and the barman was unable to make a basic Martini (shaken or stirred) Housekeeping was efficient and fast but the dust adhering to the rainforest shower head was an easy thing to miss. We will stay again as we appreciate the location and size of the room.

« Great location for city break »

Great location, excellent breakfast, staff were friendly and accommodating, however decor is in need of refurbishment, view was disappointing from my room and quite expensive (but I appreciate Edinburgh does command a premium)

« hotel very tired and a bit smelly in places - someone had also been smoking in our allocated bedroom - the bedroom and bathroom were in need of redecoration and replacement shower/bath »

very disappointed - this hotel is an embarrassment - not a good example for tourists to Edinburgh- only thing going for it is the location.

« "Standards Slipping !" »

Stayed in our usual room on the top floor. Can't fault the Room, View or Location, this is why we choose to stay at the hotel. On this occasion we felt that the efforts of staff in the dining room and house keeping were sadly lacking. Food at breakfast was also a bit bland. The dining room staff look as if they are on a "Go Slow" and are pretty lifeless ! As for the maid - I could have made a better job of making the bed myself ! There was minimal effort in the cleaning and making up of the room ! Despite this we had another superb stay in Edinburgh once again ! We probably will stay at the hotel again , due to the location and the superior rooms on the top floor, but feel that management take this advantage for granted and have let standards slip ! Next time we will seriously consider a room only package !

« Upgraded from tiny room to superior room - what a beautiful room and view! »

Upon checking back in after a two day trip out of the city, the Mercure was fully booked except for a couple of smaller rooms. The room was so small we could not get our luggage squeezed between the end of the bed and the wall. One of the managers came up to our room and agreed it was too small for our needs so he problem solved and got us into a superior room. Huge difference in my first impression of Edinburgh. We had a beautiful 7th floor room overlooking Princes St., Edinburgh Castle, the park and ferris wheel etc. Gorgeous room and bathroom facility really helped to make our experience perfect. Breakfasts were excellent and we enjoyed the friendliness of the staff and their professionalism. We were very happy Canadians on our stay at the Mercure! I hope to stay there again sometime on a repeat trip to Edinburgh!

« Worst experience of Mercure hotels »

Very noisy: windows are not sound proof enough, you can hear the traffic on the street and the crowd, you can hear the neighbours, you can hear the next doors being opened and closed which wakes you up at night. No power socket next to bed. Only 1 power socket. No USB chargers. How i was suppose to charge my phone, laptop, watch with one socket at night. Breakfast was not good quality.

« Friendly, helpful staff »

I was staying overnight . I got a free upgrade which was nice. It was the third anniversary of my husband's death and I had been to the theatre and did not fancy an hour's journey home at midnight. We used to drink in the bar often.
