The castle-view rooms were magnificent, with a truly great outlook and a window seat to experience it in comfort! The room was very comfortable, clean and well appointed. The hotel's location was ideal, right on Princes Street and close to the station, Princes Street Gardens and only a short walk to the Royal Mile. My stand-out of the stay though was definitely the staff, who went well out of their way to answer my questions, help when I was stuck and make my stay as comfortable and stress free as possible.

Dear Sally B., We very much appreciate your comments regarding your stay at the Mercure Edinburgh City Princes Street Hotel. It is always a pleasure to receive positive feedback. I will share your comments with our team. I am sure that this feedback will serve as an encouragement to all of our staff as we strive to continuously improve the quality of our services. My room was clean and quiet. The breakfasts were excellent. I must confess, I could have done without the continuous reading of Rabbie Burn's poems in the entrance hall.

Very run down, very old bathrooms, chair coverings worn out, toilets took several flushes to work properly, only cold air out of the hair dryer, no ramps from street level to lift

convenient

Stayed in a castle view room and was made welcome on arrival at reception, excellent staff especially in restaurant for dinner although breakfast was very average. The room was tired and needed a face lift especially the bathroom but will certainly stay again for the location.

Great location for exploring Edinburgh.

C. A. Families - 08/06/2019 AccorHotels certified review

The hotel is in the perfect location to explore Edinburgh. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. The hotel room was comfy and clean. However, it really is time to refurbish the rooms and bathrooms. The furnishings are worn and tired. Obviously we could have upgraded to a superior room but it was only a flying visit so we decided to stay in a basic room. We had a beautiful view of the castle from our room. We had tea and scones in Scotts restaurant. The scones were warm, light and fluffy - just perfect.

Stayed here for one night with friends. Staff were friendly and efficient and Horace in the bar took good care of us. We had two rooms, both of which were clean but perhaps in need of an update. The premium room had superb views of the castle. All in all a great hotel to stay for seeing the sights in the city centre.

Basic, clean rooms, good location, nice bar/breakfast

I stayed for business and was in a room on the 7th floor. The hotel is in a great location, check in was quick and the bar was lovely. The room was clean, however fairly basic and dated. The bathroom and furniture in particular didn't do the hotel justice.

Very dissapointing

Gary S. Business - 07/06/2019 AccorHotels certified review

My first trip to Edinburgh was only let down by a disappointing visit to Mercure. I am a regular user of Mercure ad a couple of my last visits have been poor. I recent visit resulted in us moving hotel due to a Gypsy wedding causing us a sleepless night (although this was not Edinburgh). The main issue was the time it took the hotel to sort eh broken lift which being on 7th floor was exhausting, and the breakfast was very poor. The team also had difficulty adding my membership number to my booking. Generally it was not a relaxing visit.

A bit of a let down

Disappointing. The room was tired and dated. My toilet did not work and a porter came immediately to fix it. The swift and efficient service from the staff was greatly appreciated, however I think that in these instances, it would be better to offer the guest an alternative room (if there are any available). The bathroom especially needs for be refurbished. The breakfast experience was disappointing as there was not enough staff to replenish the food and drink. When I arrived, there weren't any glasses for water/juice and the croissants were stale.

Our room was comfortable and quiet and staff friendly and helpful. Our booking included breakfast which could have been better. Plates and food items were not particularly hot. On one morning we were offered tea or coffee at the table but then told 'Sorry, it's self service.' Clearer instructions about breakfast arrangements would be beneficial as we were unsure what to do on the first morning.

Mrs J. E. Couples - 04/06/2019 AccorHotels certified review

We upgraded our room to a superior with balcony and view. Check in time was 1400 hrs however our room wasn’t ready until 1450 no explanation given just that we could purchase a beverage and wait in the bar area There was only one coffee pod for the coffee maker and only two sachets of coffee and two milk pods available. I found this to be very poor as one of your selling points to the upgrade was the coffee maker however this is useless if you don’t supply the pods to go with it. Although the view was fantastic not worth the money for the extras I did not get

Enjoyable return visit to one of our favourite cities

Clean and comfortable environment. Efficient staff. Fabulous room but with compromised views and unneeded early wake-up due to location. Non-operation of the lifts could have been a problem (and really should have been sorted more quickly) had our room been on a higher floor
