« Confusion »

Need a more welcoming sign with clear direction to proceed to lift to reception area. Total confusion amongst guests about using the room key in the lift. People pressing buttons then the lift locks out the use of keys when someone tries. Very annoying. Reception staff had to try changing my room to twin, when I had requested twin through travel agent - I was traveling with my father! Professional, but, staff stressed and annoyed trying to do this. Thought I wouldn't get a room for a minute, that I'd already paid for. Dinner staff all new, they had no chance to get diners in and out quickly. Staff friendly, food service and quality good tho. At breakfast, no one to direct us. Manager fetching things and cleaning tables instead of greeting and overseeing detail. Great that they were concerned with this and committed to service, but, sent away a girl who was trying to doing this. Her job to do this if everyone is busy and area looking untidy, or nothing else to do - only!

« A most enjoyable stay »

A lovely clean and well equipped room overlooking the castle. Breakfast was excellent although service could be improved. The reception staff were most helpful and efficient.

« very pleasant stay »

The object of the trip was to give my 12 year old grandaughter more insight to the UK. Edinburgh was the objective this year. My grandaughter's room was upgraded! This delighted her. She is normally very fussy about the food she eats, she was delighted with the breakfast, particularly the sausages, as was I with the haggis! The discount in the carpark was excellent, allowing me to sightsee without worry about a parked car. All in all, very friendly staff, comfortable bed, clean room plus the usual facilities, making this a very pleasant and enjoyable holiday. Thank you MERCURE and Edinburgh.

« Great Hotel Position »

Really great situation for all attractions within the City

« Pleasant stay. »

Positives: The hotel is centrally located and easily reached on foot. Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms, reception area, dining room, and hallways are clean and well-maintained. Comfortable beds. Negatives: Breakfast could be better., particularly eggs. Rooms are a bit small. Water pressure in the shower not that great. The hotel looks a bit old and can use a refurbishment.

I booked a two night stay for my mums 60th including wine and a meal for two on the two night. When my mum got there she was not told about her meal booking. Dissapointed! Not good value from e money as I paid over £230 for her to stay and all she got was a bed for the night.

« Shower wasn't working, billing was incorrect,... »

Except the location of the hotel, lot of things needs improvement.

« Great hotel, bad check-in »

The check-in was painfully slow (too few people to handle the queue) and somewhat shambolic. I wish I was allowed to completely open the windows, since the view from our room was gorgeous Other than that, it was a very fine stay.

« Wonderful stay with spectacular views »

We got our stay as a gift for my partners 30th and reception upgraded us to a supierior room with a balcony over princes st! The room was gorgeous with interesting art work and views to die for! Food in the restaurant was lovely, although staff in restaurant seemed rather stressed they were very helpful.

« Excellent location and nice stay »

The hotel was very well located offering a lovely view of the old city through the restaurant windows. The staff was very nice, friendly and helpful. The breakfast was diversified and quite good. The room and bathroom equipment were comfortable but definitely getting old.

« Refreshing and relaxing »

The staff were so helpful and the food was amazing. The location was perfect for our visit and the brochures you had on display were very helpful. I have already booked another visit for November.

« Woken At 5.30 am by linen porter. Room very tired and needing decorating . Very poor standard »

Very disappointed with the room in general, felt that it must of been the last available room left in the hotel, as if it was my hotel I would not want to let this room out. We had travelled for over 6 hours to attend The University the next day, my daughter was ill on arrival and so she needed to get to bed and sleep .so we stayed put. The room was very disappointing, marks on walls, cracks in the ceiling, curtains need rehanging and you could write in the dust on the ledge of the bed frame. The carpet needed replacing, the water pressure in the shower was poor and a bulb was out in the bathroom. The linen porter was delivering the linen at 5.30 am and our room was near the housekeeping room and I came out of the room to see what the hell was going on as he was making so much noise and he said "morning" and carried on regardless . I told the staff about the linen porter and he apologised, and asked if I wanted to speak to the manager, this was in the morning when we were checking out. I said no as we had an appointment to attend and that I would write to complain as the standard was not good.

« Great location, tired hotel »

Great staff, very helpful and friendly. Great location and within easy walking distance of the 3 venues I needed to be at....hotel is tired and old though. Needs to be refurbuished, painted/decorated and brought up to date....more modern.

« My weekend break »

It was a pleasant stay, staff excellent, rooms clean. Disappointed view was onto a back street rather than the gardens and also fellow guests had no respect early morning to keep noise down for other guests.

« Great location »

This hotel had great location with amazing views of Edinburgh castle. Rooms were clean and tidy. Would like to recommend you have a place to put your bags rather than on the floor. I feel sorry for the older generation who have to kneel/bend down to get their belongings from their luggage.

« Location is amazing »

Cannot fault the location, the staff and the restaurant - breakfast lovely. The decor in reception, dining and bar is lovely and modern. The bedrooms and corridors are a bit tired but this doesn't make a difference to the stay. Would definitely stay again.
