« OK but not fantastic »

The location and the view of the castle are amazing, but the rooms are super hot (the heater was turned on the whole time), the hotel feels a bit dated, not the usual Mercure standard. The breakfast was also disappointing, it was the traditional English breakfast and nothing more, so if you dont like English breakfast dont even pay for it. Overall is not bad, its just that I was expecting the usual super high quality of the other Mercure's I have stayed at (also relative to the price that you are paying).

« Lovely staff..great location »

Staff on reception were lovely..very efficient and friendly! Paid for a room with a view which was well worth it..great city view! Room clean. Breakfast buffet great but staff seemed to be struggling to keep up with demand for hot food so people were having to make a few trips rather than get full breakfast in one go..maybe give them an extra pair of hands at breakfast service? Great overall stay..will definetely be back!

« Amazing, romantic short break in a wonderful city. »

Great location, amazing views over Princes Street, friendly helpful staff. Wonderful break celebrating our wedding anniversary. My only recommendation would be to update the restaurant/bar area and toilets.

« Excellent hotel in the heart of Edinburgh »

We really enjoyed my stay at the Mercure from start to finish. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was comfy and had everything that we could possibly need. The breakfast was really nice. The view of Edinburgh Castle was really good whilst eating your breakfast. The location of the hotel couldn't have been any better, as it was within a mile of virtually everything touristy that we wanted to visit.

« Fantastic view »

The hotel in the middle of the town is great. The rooms with views are amazing. You can see sunrise and sunset with the old town and castle scenary. Staff great and friendly. Clean rooms with big TV screen. The privilege room is the best!

« Adequate no frills accommodation. »

Worrying in the sense that on the day of checkout, our room number was not found on the breakfast list and when checking out we were told that we had a bill to settle for dinner that we had on the first night of our stay, after our response that we had paid for the additional charges on the night, the receptionist made a call and didn't persue the issue, we have since found the receipt if evidence of payment is needed.

« Great city centre location... not such a great hotel room. »

Upon arrival, we were advised that we had been provided with an upgrade to a “Privilege Room” due to my membership with Accor Hotels, which was a nice touch to our Edinburgh City Break. However, we were disappointed by the cleanliness and upkeep levels of the room, and was honestly surprised by the standard, especially for the “Privilege” status afforded to our room. A number of points were noted: 1. Mould and grime around the taps and tiles in bath/shower 2. Pink mould within the shower head 3. A crack in the sink basin 4. Mould on and around the taps in the sink basin 5. Grime along the edges of the glass shelves 6. A partially broken toilet seat with black build-up 7. Dust gathering on the small extract above the bath 8. Yellow water stain on the ceiling of the bathroom 9. Ill-fitting door handle on the inside of the bathroom 10. Stains on the carpet in the room. An e-mail (as discussed upon check-out) has been sent to the Hotel GM detailing these points, along with photographs.

The staff were friendly, room was excellent and the breakfast was sumptuous. There are few other hotels in Scotland with such a stunning view- Castle, Scott Monument, Princes St Gardens. The hotel would be absolutely top notch if the public areas were upgraded.

« Great hotel in the perfect location »

We had a great holiday in Edinburgh and this hotel contributed to it! The service was brilliant, we had a room overlooking Princes Street, which was what we'd hoped for. The room was clean and spacious, and it was quiet at night. We had breakfast in the hotel on one of the days, and there was a variety on offer including traditional Scottish food. I couldn't find anything to fault in this hotel even if I wanted to.

« Great location, good public areas, poor bedrooms »

The location was excellent as we traveled up from the East Midlands by train, very close to Waverley station and the city to be able to explore on foot. The breakfast was very good. The public areas were good, the view of the old city and castle from the restaurant was excellent. What really let down our weekend away was the bedroom, small, tired, grubby, poor aged bathroom, shower was a dribble, view overlooking the heating vents/air conditioning units on a roof top below. The constant noise from these units was so that it was difficult to get to sleep. The room and if the rest are the same, the rooms are desperate for refurbishment as they do totally let down what should be a nice city break. On the plus side, the room was warm, sometimes too much so and the tv was good.
