Lovely and clean, large room. The only thing that kept waking me was the noise extractor fan in the bathroom, it kept turning on and knocking! Rest breakfast and friendly staff, would stay again but not that room until can was fixed! Very quiet too!

« Excellent stopover on way back from Scotland »

Very impressed with our stay. We had contacted the hotel asking if our rooms could be by the lift as I cannot climb stairs and I was very pleased to find our rooms very close to the lift with views across the valley as an added bonus. All the staff we met very very friendly and the breakfast was tasty.

« Great hotel. Very pleasant experience »

A little bit quiet as not many guests. Slight disappointment in that some of the dishes on the menu weren’t available. However the food was outstanding- everything about it was lovely. The young waitress was very attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. Would definitely come again

« Nice hotel in quiet location. »

This hotel is in a fine location away from the main road with some lovely views but we left a little disappointed. We had a privilege room (256) which was nice and spacious and comfortable with excellent views of the countryside. But however comfortable the room was we didn't get much sleep due to the bathroom air vent that we could hear vibrating all night, with no visible way of turning off that we could find. It maybe just a little thing but my Wife is re cooperating from a long illness and a bad nights sleep is the last thing she needs, so as result the next 24 hours were a struggle for her.

The staff were very helpful and friendly and went out of their way to give us whatever we needed, cleaners, restaurant staff/chef, reception and Manager, all great. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. the only down side of the hotel was the noisy guests that would wake you up between 1am to 2am in the morning particularly on a weekend.

« A comfortable hotel in a lovely location »

The hotel’s location was excellent, with lovely views of open countryside from our bedroom and conveniently near to Bradford city. Facilities were very good and we enjoyed all of our meals in the restaurant. The only improvements would be to minimise long queues at the check in desk and to ensure that rooms are serviced, on one of our days the room was not cleaned until late evening and we therefore needed to go to reception to request tea and milk supplies on returning from our day out.

« This hotel is not fit for purpose »

There was nothing about staying at the hotel that was pleasurable: 1. There was an unpleasant smell as soon as I walked in the door of the hotel (which I suspect is from the very old & worn out carpet). 2. The radiator did not work in my room; when I queried this with Reception, I was told that the radiator did work but that the heating doesn't come on until 7pm. The heating never came on in my room and the extra heater on the wall also did not work. I was provided with an electric free-standing radiator which had the name of another hotel written across it in marker pen. 3. The room was not only tired and in need of refurbishment, it was actually way beyond what should be considered acceptable for paying guests and needs to be gutted. It had odd smell; the carpet was so disgusting I would not walk on it in bare feet; the skirting boards were filthy & there was a build-up of dirt where the carpet met the skirting board; the curtains were filthy; one of the electrical sockets was loose and when I plugged the free-standing electric heater in, blue sparks flew out; my bedding was ripped; there were bites on my legs after staying in this hotel; the bathroom was cold; the towels in the bathroom were old & fraying; the plug in the bath was rubber and had a split in it; the plug-holes in both the basin & the bath were unclean, chipped & discoloured; the lock on the bathroom door did not work; the hinges of the door were utterly disgusting & covered with greasy filth; the shower curtain should have been burned a while back. Frankly, I could go on more about the room and the bathroom... 4. What is described on the hotel's website as a 'brasserie' is actually a standard hotel restaurant from the early 1980s. Local radio was playing the background. Most of the dishes on the menu were unavailable, which in my view was clearly a financial decision to save on the food spend when limited numbers of guests were eating there. It was overpriced, poor quality and the place had no atmosphere. When we were leaving the restaurant, I was chased by a waitress who wanted me to pay there and then, despite having taken my room number at the beginning of the meal. She was clearly very anxious about this. 5. Apart from being chased when leaving the restaurant, staff were very few and far between. In fact, the same three people seemed to be doing everything! I have since noticed on Trip Advisor that some guests have complained about the attitude of the staff and, while I recognise some of the descriptions (see 6, for example), I also feel that the hotel's management and the group as a whole are putting these staff in a terrible position as this is clearly an awful place to work and I actually think they should feel fortunate they have not all deserted the place! 6. When I arrived, I was not offered help with my bags despite my room being some considerable distance away from the front desk. When I checked out, I was neither asked about my stay nor thanked for choosing the hotel. In fact, the receptionist simply took the key card and said "that's fine." I would say that I was also not asked to "come again" but I suspect the staff understand that unless someone has a propensity for masochism, they are unlikely to return! In summary, it is easy to see how wonderful this hotel COULD be if some investment was put into it — the building itself is beautiful and there are period signs everywhere of what could be achieved. Given the price I paid, I was certainly not expecting luxury or anything close to it, but I was still a paying guest and as I said earlier, there was absolutely nothing about my stay that was pleasurable. This level of service and the general standard of the hotel is simply not acceptable these days, regardless of the price. Guests should, as an absolute minimum, feel welcome, safe, and as though they are staying someone that is clean. Sadly, none of these very basic standards applied to this hotel. It should be closed to guests with immediate effect and extensively refurbished. This is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in: it was so bad that I wasn't even cross when I left; I was actually just extremely concerned that the group and Accor is prepared to put its staff and guests at this level of risk.

« Poor »

Hi there, I was very disappointed with my stay at Mercure Hotel, Bradford considering i was looking forward to it with all the good reviews i had seen. I booked this for me and my husband wedding night and specifically mentioned this when i was booking online. For the price we paid i expected a special treatment or extras as when i enquired i was informed we would. We booked the Privellege room. I wouldnt book with Mercure Hotel again the quality for what you pay is poor. My husband wanted to warm his pizza (ordered from outside) & was told due to health and safety they couldnt. Therefore we had no breakfast. If my husband is warming it up himself that would be at his own risk not to do with the hotel. Also the staff did not provide any other recommendations or a alternative suggestion. Therefore there was a waste of a whole pizza that we had to bin & lost out on that money. I am extremely dis satisfied with my whole experience. Maryam

« Enjoyable and fit for purpose »

It was OK. The breakfast was good and the room was fine-only issue was that on my final morning for some reason several wasps had got into the room! I drew this to the attention of the reception staff who were able to retrieve a jacket from the wardrobe where they seemed to be focussing their attention.

We checked in quite late but were allocated the wrong room twice. Both rooms had people already sleeping in them so quite embrassing to disturb them. When we got to the room we found hair on the bed and the window didn't close properly. I ordered a paper for Sunday which didn't come. Overall a cheap place to stay but not somewhere I would book again.
