« Disappointing compared to our previous stays here. »

The room we were first given had not been serviced so, when we discovered this, we then had to trek back to reception. Staff responded well and asked us to sit in the lounge, with a free drink, while the matter was sorted. Our second room was clean but disappointingly small compared to the rooms we have stayed in here previously. I had chosen a Classic room, rather than a Compact, when booking, and paid extra for this, but it seemed pretty compact to me. This second room, as well as being on the small side, was quite cold, even though the radiator was on full. It was a cold day but the room was obviously in a cold part of the hotel, being above a parking area, and , as the hotel was pretty quiet, I was again disappointed that rooms were being used in this part of the hotel, when there were obviously warmer, larger rooms standing empty, in other parts of the hotel. When checking out, the receptionist asked if we needed a VAT receipt but did not ask if everything had been okay.

« cold rooms tired decor and expensive food and drink for a supposed 3 star hotel - which it isn't »

the 2 rooms we booked were cold due to very old single pane windows; plus radiators that were hot at the top but cold at the bottom but gave off little heat. the restaurant menu was limited so i expected everything to be available especially the chef's signature dish - which wasn't. Therefore i struggled to find something tempting. The food we did get was ok for a 3 star hotel, although prices are steep for 3 star. The drinks were overpriced especially the wine and cocktails - these prices I'd expect in a proper 4 star hotel, which I can compare to as I visit one every week locally. This hotel is struggling to maintain the fixtures and decor - probably because it's too big now. I think hotels struggle to maintain good order to large old buildings. But the main problem was the cold rooms, this is absurd. The radiators were cold at the bottom suggesting sediment has built up and therefore they need flushing. I would suggest the hotel employ a handyman to do tasks such as these rather than pay other businesses to do it. The windows need replacing as well, these are very old.

Hotel generally not clean, food at breakfast not satisfactory grisly sausage , service not good, not offered any different choice of eggs, started to clear away food, whilst we wer3 still eating ,switching off lights making it dark. We have stayed at the hotel many times , but will not stay again, will. Not recommend to anyone, very disappointing , needs to be taken in hand, Wine in bar a ridiculous price did not look at prices had 2 large Sauvignon, nothing out of the ordinary wa £22 nearly dropped, waiter said many complaints about the wine prices, but management don’t listen, as if no one cares.paid for two nights ,would have gone after one,had we known how low standards have become

« The hotel is very tired and our room had no heating on one of the coldest days this year. »

The room had no working heating so phoned reception and they gave us a portable heater which did not give out enough heat for a room of the size. The hotel itself was very grubby and in need of updating.

« Happy Stay - All down to the Staff »

Largely very nice. Only one main issue, which was that the room was too cold, even with the radiator on full. It was a cold weekend, but the single glazing large window must have bled the heat away. Happily, your staff immediately provided a portable heater, which helped a great deal, although it had to be on all the time we were in the room, which meant that the limited (two) electrical sockets, were down to one and with a kettle and two phone chargers, that caused a bit of juggling. However, your Staff were as always, fabulously efficient in all things and deserve high praise. Without them, this stay would have been our last one, if the weather were similarly cold. I will try to request a room in the other wing next time, as we had previously and which had no such issues.

The room was very cold. We understood that there were some problems with the heating throughout the hotel. We were provided with a free-standing heater. Staff very friendly, but they seemed to be over-stretched in their duties. The food was excellent. All the meals were of a high standard but special mention of the breakfast!

« Great Massage but hotel not so much »

We arrived a bit earlier than 2pm check in time and were advised if we wanted to check in then there would be a charge of GBP20. I can understand there are extra charges for extra half days etc. but if rooms are ready most hotels will show the goodwill of letting you in earlier without charge. We tried to order room service and then cancelled as you wanted to charge a GBP5 tray charge for it. Room service is part of a hotel stay and if you provide it I do not expect to be charged extra for someone to carry it to the room. We tried to call reception a couple of times to ask a question and no one answered so we gave up. We had dinner in the restaurant in the evening. Food was fine, but all a bit pricey for what was available. The plus you had was the massage company on your premises. Was able to book at short notice and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Reasonably comfortable room. Very friendly staff, just not enough of them, and those who were on duty often distracted or not readily available. Bar was often unattended. Funeral tea my uncle ordered for a number of our guests was 'adequate' but there were complaints that the tea wasn't hot, and staff not visible enough. Ran out of cakes and was told at the end of the event that they would have been replenished, but there had been no one to ask! Breakfast was disappointing - scrambled eggs were disgusting! If you are going to allow dogs in the hotel maybe put the guest and pet well away from other guests - I was woken in the night by dog barking. Also if you are allowing dogs in the bar ensure the owners keep them under control.

Great location, comfy room. Bar great. Any chance of a few biscuits with tea and coffee in room? Only down side was being teased with the offer of profiteroles only to find they weren't available. Great food as well

Unfortunately even though the hotel is beautiful and it's surroundings.. our experience did not live up to the expectations your advert described.. we booked a family room a month earlier but on the day were told that there was no family room so we were given two adjacent rooms.. we didn't make a fuss but gladly took what we were given.. we were told that the adjacent room had a connecting door that could be opened so that our kids could be monitored and it would be like having a family room.. unfortunately the door between was permanently locked.. I told the receptionist upon entering our room and was told someone would be up asap to open it.. 3 hours later after booking in we left and told the receptionist before leaving the hotel that the joining door was still locked.. she said she would have someone open it asap.. when we came back at 22:00 we found that the door was still locked.. we rang reception but no answer.. went down and were told that someone would come up by 23:00hrs to open the door.. we waited until 12:30 but no one came.. our children were scared to be left alone next door on there own so we all shared the same bed in one room.. very uncomfortable sleep and restless.. told reception the next morning but they only apologised.. I had to drive back to London without a proper sleep and found it very hard to drive.. so even though we were all looking forward to staying at the Mercure we were very unsatisfied.

No buffet breakfast which is what i had paid £22 for (2 rooms 2 adults). had to choose from menu. Your staff were unable to print me off an invoice for my expenses. That was far too complicated. The chap said they would email one to me. You guessed it... no email. I need this for my expenses. Brilliant. Why i stay there i have no idea next time i shall use the PremierInn North Bingley. Just the simple things there seem to be too challenging.
