We booked a family room I've been visiting this hotel for over 20 years. Definitely needs decorating in the old part of the hotel room doors needed painting and the beautiful wooden doors desperately needed a varnish.

« No linguini, for Prawn dish. No jasmine rice with Thai prawn curry and no room service as phone not working »

The phone were not working as I required extra milk and coffee. No linguini pasta, which is not acceptable for a Mercure Hotel (dry or fresh. Then boil in a bag rice with £15 Thai prawn curry. Worse Mercure I have stayed in and I have been Mercure in different parts of the world.

Room was in a poor state of repair. Dirty stained walls, cracked toilet unit. Hair blocked bath drain. Bathroom tiles loose, bathroom window shelf in poor state, cracked and loose paint. Dusty surfaces with large amount accumulated under sink unit. Handle fell off draw unit in bedroom when used. No hairdryer and tea was not restocked during stay. Although not the hotels fault the room was too hot due to weather, however, ventilation was poor due to window restrictors.

« The staff were friendly and helpful but many aspects fell a little short of what we expectede »

The first room we were given had not been made up after a wedding. The problem was quickly rectified but walking into a room , expecting to relax, and finding unmade beds is a bad start. On one night we decided to eat at the hotel - two dishes on the menu and one wine were unavailable. We could not understand the cheeseboard not being available. We had to ask for a second towel on two occasions. This was a special family occasion - the hotel is in a lovely setting and the attitude of the staff is good but it just seems to lack that final attention to detail.

Always a good stay with great rooms and comfortable beds. The evening meal wasn't up to scratch though and the prices at the bar seem to be getting steeper!

check in very unpleasant due to run down office and very rude staff, one ran away, the other one couldn’t have been more rude and annoyed by someone checking in. wifi kept failing all the time. room was ok though no aircon, towels were big, fluffy and new, liked the mass of pillows.

Service was very poor we decided to eat in the restaurant on the Friday evening we waited an hour then asked where our food was bearing in mind we had a child with us who was getting very hungry. We were told the food had not even been started on. Another wait food arrived all but mine they went back to the kitchen my food arrived still frozen underneath, it was taken back and eventually I received cooked food but not what I ordered so not being able to eat it I had to go hungry. I have never experienced sutch bad service and as my daughter was having her wedding there I expected a lot better.

The hotel was very dated and the rooms were dirty and the corridor carpets are very dirty ,the cleaners were doing there best but the whole hotel needs a make over and the cleaners need proper hoovers and the whole hotel was under staffed .The staff did a brilliant job and were rushed off there feet and the food was good ,I just felt so sorry for the staff who had to deal with continued complaints all the time.The management needs to come in and sort the tired run down hotel out and the staff especially the bar staff need a medal for trying to keep going without enough staff and resources

The bedroom and dining room were fine. Staying in a hotel you don't expect to have to ask for towels or the tea and coffee replacing. Asked for mustard to go with my steak sorry we have none, no sparkling water given a jug of tap water no ice or lemon, and no lemon for my G and T. The food was good though maybe the steak was a little pricey but we enjoyed our trip.

The room was lovely with a view. I was not too impressed with the fact my phone in the room wasn't working so i couldn't order room service from my room, but rather walk all the way to reception to order my food, which defeats the purpose of room service. When the food did arrive, it was nothing grand. The pizza wasn't cooked, just slapped on an entire block of cheese along with chunks of tomato, its safe to say that was a waste of money as i didn't even bother eating it. On check out the computer systems were down so couldn't get a receipt and was told i would be emailed that shortly, after waiting 6 hours i had to chase it up for it to be sent as the receptionist actually hadn't done it in the morning. Overall the rooms are lovely- the service not so much.

« A place to rest my head, but nothing special. »

The hotel looks beautiful and offers promise in terms of a pleasant stay but that's where it ends. Service at reception, in the bar and in the restaurant left a lot to be desired. Facilities in the bedroom were less than basic, lotion provided, but not shampoo or shower gel, only one bath towel provided for a family room, Dirty bath and toilet on both nights I stayed in 2 separate bedrooms. Hairdryer did not work in my room on the first night, swapped with colleagues in 2 rooms on the same corridoor, also not working. No answer at reception or bar when trying to order room service, gave up in the end. No answer on your 2424 line either when trying to resolve hair dryer problem. Tea and coffee facilities provided, but the lead on the kettle was so short it couldn't be plugged in - hence why the inside of the kettle was spotless, evidently no one had been able to use it. On check out I asked the receptionist to amend the address details on my invoice, as such that I would be able to claim my expenses, I wrote the details on a post it note for her, the invoice was printed and placed in an envelope for me - on opening it after leaving the hotel the details had not been added as requested, for both of my stays. I have since tried to obtain electronic copies of the invoice, with or with out the amended address, was told reception couldn't provide this, and I can only get this from finance - have emailed the address provided twice now, with no response. Very unlikely I will be returning to this hotel or others in the group if this is the level of service to be expected.

Great location, good parking tired deco, upgrading won’t hurt at all. No air conditioners and extractors in our room. Staff very courteous and friendly.
